  1. Wool will keep you dry for a good while. And you are not supposed to bowhunt in the rain, remember?
  2. Or just keep going like this and they will not be afraid of you come gun season. And then... I am convinced the deer recognized my truck during my first gun season and deemed it to pose no threat. Just Mike shooting of the shotgun. They were right the first year, but the next year they paid...I had a muzzleloader I was and still am confident with.
  3. I am planning on jumping up into the next bracket this season, might go for two does and a buck with the bow if it ever cools down enough. That will improve the curve mightyly. Keep checking the harvest thread, haha.
  4. Nice one!!! Someone needs to get a deer soon,I am getting soooo impatient. I know,i know, end of the month is when the real fun starts. Can't get here soon enough.
  5. I agree, the summit viper is a little too comfy. It weighs a ton though,so i feel i deserve a nap after hauling it into the woods. Well,it has happened once or twice, but not for long! Also snoozed at the base of a pine tree once, very peaceful. As i get older I find if i sit still for any amount if time i get sleepy. Might be a medical issue, haha.
  6. That is totally fine,it fits you to be on the ground and actively looking for deer. You seem like an all in kind of guy...
  7. You crack me up Buckmaster, lasted about an hour and a half in the stand? Go find a nice buck on the ground, good luck
  8. Still at home waiting for cooler temps, and tomorrow morning and friday look good
  9. not chicken of the woods if it grows on the ground. That one only grows on dead wood.
  10. What do you use to get into the hang on's?
  11. I have a summit viper for a climber, and the thing weighs a ton. I am scared to hike in further than 1/2 mile. I also have a bunch of hang on's,some with ladder sticks, some with screw in steps. Oh,and one ladder stand. I think I might buy the basic lone wolf climber next year,it is soooo light.
  12. went for a still hunt/scouting trip and have nothing to report but that its hot and muggy. Couldn't help myself,it is bow season after all.
  13. You going to shoot from the hip at 5?
  14. A couple of years ago we had a thousand of them congregate up the hill from our house. That is spooky stuff,it was all foggy here when i went to check them out.
  15. I brought a lot of firewood in my basement yesterday and will tidy up down there and do some other projects around the house. Also building up hunting credit for the end of the month and knocking some things of mynto do list.
  16. Not chicken of the woods,i think this one might be called witches butter, not positive on that. Won't get any bigger than that...
  17. That really is awesome. The how is more important than what you actually get. Mature girl you have there fletch. Took me several years to get to that point myself. I started hunting in my late thirties and have been at it for five or six years. The buck I spotted and stalked the other day would have been my favorite if I had gotten him,but he walked away a few minutes to early. He was only a decent six or maybe an eight, but it feels more like one earned it when you use still hunting/stalking skills,or in your case put in food plots and scouted during the summer. Enjoy
  18. Great job again you two. Anf I feel for the hunter,I would have had a hard time staying calm when drawn back on that buck. Sounds like he will survive it and be harder to catch again...
  19. I think if you have the patience the earlier the better. That being said I generally dont make it in the stand much more than 45 to 60 mins before shooting light.
  20. All week in 4F they have been eating acorns, from red oaks.
  21. I just did some scouting/still hunting and saw a decent buck bedded down in the hardwoods. He was lounging around so i actually noticed the white on his belly first. He saw me as well. We were maybe 75 yds apart, and he just looked, not getting up. So i backed up behind some trees and backtracked and made a wide circle to get above him. Took a while, but I made it around and he was still there, standing up now. I was about 75 yds out again and started to sneak closer. He looked like either a good six or eight point. I closed the distance some and he kept grooming himself, but then he started to walk off,not in a direction that worked for me. I dont think he winded me or knew I was there, but he did get out of there just in time, since he looked big enough to shoot. Nice to know he is hanging around though.
