  1. I shoot 55# draw.with fixed 100 gr muzzys. Have only shot three deer at 20 yds or less and have gotten pass through on all, even with hitting ribs or the opposite knee. I agree with buckmaster that there is no need for mechanicals if your bow is tuned right. But whatever floats your boat...
  2. Difference in stand height should not influence pin choice if you bend at the waist. Shooting from 10' up is the same as 20'. I did the test with a piece of string to see if bending at the waist is necessary. Take a string and hold it in your bow hand and pull back and hold it tight. Now aim down and dont bend the waist and you will pull it out of your bow hand, thus changing your draw length and the top half of the bow gets used more and makes your arrow hit high.
  3. Gee biz,the animal kingdom fears you...lol. Nice pics though.
  4. Seems to me they have been active in the mornings,so go for it.
  5. Ok,my turn. The doe and young one did get company,i thought i saw a big buck at the other end of the buckwheat. I was stoked, and he worked his way closer, and closer, and closer until he turned out to be a 4 point. Ugh. Could have shot the doe at 20 yds,but no rush yet. This is why i love bowhunting so much,so much to learn. I grunted at the doe from 25 yds to get them to scatter. She didnt care until finally wondering why she couldnt see another deer. Then she tried to get downwind. Awesome, they finally ran off.
  6. just climbed out of the tree,i feel a little woozy, might be coming down with something,so on the ground now, shout out to biz. Just got situated and a big doe and her fawn appeared and are feeding on the acorns. Not shooting a doe quite yet though, waiting for company... 50 yds out....
  7. Well, the acorns are dropping right now around me,where is that hungry buck?
  8. Made it in the stand, see what happens....
  9. Eh,i think none of these are that far off. Just aim for the center of the lungs and you will be alright. Maybe they go back a little to far,and then you have to consider angles as well.
  10. Gee,you guys dont sound like the kind it would be fun to have a beer with at all,I am staying in Cooperstown.
  11. I think i will spend an hour in my easiest to get to stand tonight, wind is perfect for it,sw. Just have to go uphill from my house through the horse/sheep pasture and there it is,on the corner. There is a 35 yd wide strip of woods that separates a buckwheat field and a golden rod field, and then it turns into woods at my stand. Saw a nice buck last year in early November going right through my pasture after jumping the 4' fence. Saw him from the house and couldnt get out fast enough...haha
  12. Growie,i need access to a fridge, yours is still empty, right? Plus i could stock up on wine if i am in the area...
  13. I am with seth,i would put stands on either side of that drainage, and not far away from it. Hunt the bottom in the morning and the ridge in the afternoons, the cruising bucks know about thermals...
  14. Man,that rack looks to heavy to carry around. The biggest steaks might be in that bucks neck!!!
  15. Oh yes,forgot...Congrats Taylormike
  16. No way that was double lung, maybe just clipped one. But i do think a major blood vessel to the liver must have got severed.
  17. What lawdaz said, sure looks lije you got lucky.
  18. I only killed 3 deer with the bow so far, lost one. This is my third bow season.
  19. Nice shot and nice longnosed doe! Congratulations!
  20. I saw some does on Sunday, but at this point I would only shoot a nice buck. Temps are too high for me to be able to age the deer properly. It was great to be back in the stand and see some deer though.
  21. yeah, the leaves are crazy loud right now. I am staying on the fringes of the woods until the leaves get wet, after this weekend maybe...
  22. Sitting in the woods on the east property line,on the ground. The leaves are ridiculously loud here in 4F. We need some rain...
