  1. Here is a link to the NYS Safe Act concerning re-certification. https://safeact.ny.gov/pistol-permit-recertification Here is why it is important to recert. Failure to recertify shall act as a revocation of such license. If the New York state police discover as a result of the recertification process that a licensee failed to provide a change of address, the New York state police shall not require the licensing officer to revoke such license. http://ypdcrime.com/penal.law/article400.htm
  2. That and tug hill region. You guys get some crazy weather but can keep it up there.
  3. My dad lives in Wayne county and went to buy a pistol and the permit office told him he needed to get re-certified before they would forward his amendment to the judge. Took about 2 months for the Judge to sign everything and let him pick up his pistol. I have been trying to convince him to change counties but he doesn't want to hear anything about it. Heck even Monroe county has the vouchers that would allow you to buy a gun and pick it up the same day. My dad has to wait about a month until the judge signs off and gets his voucher in the mail.
  4. I just bought another pistol and when I got my voucher they said there isn't a fee unless you have changed your address or something on it has changed. This is in Steuben county. Also if you don't recert. by the 18th of Janurary 2018 it will be considered surrendered and will need to reapply. Not sure if you will be charged the whole fingerprinting and fed background check thing or not but that is the way they made it sound. I would highly recommend you recert. before the deadline and double check with your county if there is a fee. Mine is $5 if I need to change my address, and you don't have to live in the county of issuance.
  5. Haha very true. I'll just tell it how it is, I'm usually like that anyway why should he expect anything different?
  6. How good of a shot are you? I would go .243 tikka t3 drive tacks and very light recoil. My wife's gun is a .243 and with 95/100gr. bullets it will drop deer in their tracks no problem. Put one in the boiler room and it won't go far, longest track was maybe 20 yards. Shoot them in the neck and they drop.
  7. Funny or epic? I would love to do something like that.
  8. He does and passes deer with the bow but nothing with gun kind of weird. He hunts some of his families other properties that he has no problem passing small bucks and does but on his dad's property he shoots everything. Haha yeah he can be sensitive at times he is the only one that knows how to butcher right compared to the places you can take your deer...
  9. O ok this one is only 5 1/2" but I think it wil fit the bill for what I want to do. Maybe some rabbits or at least some squirrels. Good gun to start the wife on.
  10. What's the barrel length? 6"?
  11. Holy he will be a stud next year long as he stays away from cars and predators. Crazy how he just stood there almost posing for the camera.
  12. No doubt those interchangeable barrels are nice but damn they are ugly. Looks like something out of a Star Trek/Star Wars parody.
  13. The 5 blue counties in the middle of the state house ithaca, syracuse, buffalo, binghamton, and albany hmm wonder why they voted blue? Not many Rep. in those areas.
  14. Yup we usually only make trips to the grocery store for broccoli, eggs, milk, butter, and ice cream. We keep ours around 67 but will be going up in a few months with a little one on the way. I like wearing sweatshirts around our house to stay warm vs walking around bare chested and sweating.
  15. I have been watching that gun for a while but they haven't put it on sale. I also liked the Beretta neos but damn is it ugly.
  16. I have shot some nice deer and have a few mounts. Every time he comes over he always makes comments "They don't get that big around here" I shot one of them off his property and he knows. I usually respond with "They do if they live long enough" not trying to be smart but kind of give him a subtle hint. He usually follows with the amish excuse or something.
  17. Yeah I don't want to come off like telling him he is an idiot and usually that is how he takes criticism. So I was thinking of just letting a lying dog lay. He knows I'm picky when it comes to deer and if I take one on his property. He bust my balls all the time "How you going to to have any meat if you don't shoot something" or the best is "I love having you hunt over here because you don't shoot anything." Yeah, he does flinch and might be why he shoots the deer where he does. I have noticed down here in the Southern Tier there are a lot more brown it's down hunters and it's "cool" to fill every tag you and your family have. I haven't ever hunted like that and a lot of our same friends don't but definitely more in this area than back at my families farm. He has got better over the years and passes yearlings now that he knows the difference between them and 2.5 year old. Still likes to age 2.5 year old as a 4.5 but he is getting there. Like you said he "wants" big deer but with his habits he isn't going to see many. I do think he likes the killing aspect more than see the deer. I don't make fun of the deer he shoots because I'm just not like that you kill what you want I kill what I want. His property his rules, my property my rules. Yes I think this is the best option although he does complain about next to no meat on deer. I have been thinking about this because we most definitely bust balls. Some of our friends are just brutal to him when it comes to deer hunting. They rip on him anytime he shoots a small buck he has got better about the yearlings he can identify them and does pass on them. He does grind his deer and just more recently started mixing pork with his burger per my wife's suggestion to his wife. I thought about throwing my grinder in the truck and bringing it over he uses one of those kitchen aids to grind his meat and supposedly takes forever. My grinder you can almost fit your fist into and will grind about 15lbs./minute. A little overkill but it works well. I think that might give me an in. haha all about strategy.
  18. So I have a buddy that told me he only gets about 30lbs. of meat off a deer (110lbs. dressed) and needs around 8 deer to make it through the year. I shot 2 deer this year and I yielded around 90 lbs. of venison maybe a little more. So I average 45lbs. of venison a deer. I didn't go into the specifics with him but I feel like 30lbs. is really low when you aren't talking yearlings. I mean maybe I strip the deer a little more but I don't take the rib meat mainly the hind quarters, front legs, back straps, and neck. I don't think there is that much waste in the rest of the carcass. I haven't ever saw him cut up a deer so I don't know how much he actually wastes. He is also that type of guy that knows everything like his 300 win mag is no different than my .270 for deer hunting. Do i just let him keep doing his thing but rape his property of deer every year? I mean in 2013 they shot 7 deer 2014 they shot 4 deer off his property this year 9 all including yearlings. He says he wants bigger deer but they shoot everything that walks on 4 legs. I hunt on his property and am very particular with the deer I shoot usually has to be a wall hanger in order for me to pull the trigger of my gun or release. I'll add he it is a 300 acre tract of land so it should hold some deer but for the whole property to hold 6 deer on average is pretty dismal.
  19. Is it the 30" or the 40"? I just bought the redhead 40" this past black friday only seasoned it so far. My last masterbuilt went out on me after 6 years of use. I used it quite a bit smoking a lot of venison, ribs, pork chops, potatoes, whole bunch of different foods. I upgraded to the bigger one just for the reason of being able to smoke all the meat at once. I was able to get about 20-30lbs of meat in the 30" the 40" looks like it will fit 40-50lbs. or 2 turkeys. Our family seems to be getting bigger and on thanksgiving we usually smoke a store bought turkey or 2 wild ones for the family on thanksgiving. This is 80lbs. of burger (65lbs. venison 15lbs. pork) that I made into 15lbs. trail bologna, 15lbs. summer sausage, and 50lbs. of hot and sweet italian. I don't use as much pork as you do and the meat is much leaner.
  20. Yup trade school would be the best if any schooling was free. I live in an area where there is a lot of industry and their biggest gripe is they can not get someone qualified to run a machine (lathe, mill, CNC or manual, ect). They lack work ethic and motivation, this quote is straight from 2 HR reps at a couple companies "They want a paycheck for doing nothing, most of the time at the end of interviews they ask how much vacation time and sick do they get." Personally the first thing I asked after my interviews was when is the earliest I can start and how much will be my starting pay.I could and still careless about the time off I get. I'm not a work-a-holic but I go to work everyday I physically can and try my best while there. You don't get that in many teens nowadays. The only hard working students I have had are the farm and country kids, you know the ones that aren't handed everything.
  21. Yeah I have $30 worth of points I have to redeem and would have on my gun I just bought if I had got mine in the mail. Got another $10 off $50 so I plan on spending $50 and only paying $20 all said and done.
  22. I have used the thin camo bungee cords and they seem to work or people just leave my crap alone.
  23. I want to say that unfortunately I can not find the source that linked these 2 things in the same bill so take it with a grain of salt whether this is true or not. I myself am skeptical until I find the proof again, they might have been 2 different proposed bills..
  24. Still can't find the article though. Found an article through washingtontimes but wasn't the original source I saw it. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2015/dec/23/new-york-lawmakers-float-bill-to-restrict-gun-ammo/
  25. This doesn't seem to be the one I saw it was more recent purposed for this year (2017). It might not have been tied to the free college bill. Man I wish I could find it again I think I saw it on facebook by one of the nys gun clubs NYSFAF or something similar. I have tried to search for it on there but haven't come up with any results. EDIT: it was NYSRPA! Holy brain fart.
