  1. Well at my local seed and feed I think they wanted about $10/lbs. for alfalfa and similar clovers. My plan right now is to frost seed clover and cereal rye on one plot and on the other clover and wheat. I should add that these are going to be in hardwoods with minimal sun so I'm not expecting a whole lot from them.
  2. Love my 8x42 alpens, father in law uses his 10x42 out west hunting elk/mulies. He said the 10x42 are too much for NY and anything under 300 yards.
  3. Is it true if you are given a ticket by a trooper then plea not guilty and the county reduces it the money from the fine and surcharge will go to the county instead of the state?
  4. Betting not many people would know the difference or the yield they should get from a deer if they never processed one themselves.
  5. With my ground meat I seldom remove silver skin/sinew. It either gets ground in or caught in the grinder knives and cleaned out when clogged or I just feel like doing it. I grind twice through the 3/16" plate. The picture does look like some deer fat was in ground in. I know a lot of processors will give people a break if they bring in their meat already boned and in your case grow they might have had people bring in their meat with lots of fat left on it. Honestly if I were bringing it in to get processed I wouldn't take nearly as much time trimming if I knew it was community meat instead of my own.
  6. Best I've got. Mine is about 1/4 pork.
  7. Most definitely, I have had places make me sausage, hot dogs and similar products and found a lot of hair and bone fragments. Pretty much said no thanks. There used to be a place outside of Avoca called Switzers and they would actually give you back your meat but most butchers don't do that with burger products. If you ask for whole cuts then you will usually get your meat back.
  8. Nope they just need to give you back the amount of meat you brought in. In other words your deer yielded 30lbs. of burger you get 30lbs. of burger from the batch or 40lbs. after fat is added. If you want burger most butchers will throw your scraps with others into a bin and grind all at once instead of firing up the grinder 20 different times.
  9. What would you rather he did instead? I mean he didn't choose the time in which the world trade centers were hit. Once his term was up it was Obama's turn to carry the torch and he screwed up. We can blame only Obama it was also his advisors that steered him in the direction he took. Obama's cabinet, and advisors screwed his presidency as much as he did.
  10. I have heard nothing but good things about the wicked lights. My father also has the vtr in .308 and is quite the shooter. If I were building a varmit/predator platform gun I would be going with the 22-250 and a Tikka T3. I think Tikka makes a varmit gun in 22-250 if I'm not mistaken, might be worth looking into. Either way I'm looking forward to what you decide.
  11. It is crazy how much they charge for something so simple. I linked a better designed one. The key is big discs and weight. I have one of those smaller brinly and honestly they are junk they just bounce around the plow furrows and break. https://www.amazon.com/51-Single-Gang-Disc-ATV-51SGDH/dp/B00BJ2ELDU/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1484228998&sr=8-4&keywords=tractor+disc
  12. Depends on the state. We all know about Florida and their fear for life law, but in NY I'm betting you would face charges/law suit if you injured/killed a perp. by shooting them in the back. All said and done I'm not sure there is a judge in any upstate NY county that would side with the criminal in this situation. My friend lives in Rochester and had someone break into his apartment in the middle of the night. The person came through his kitchen window in the summer when he was using those little safety latches that keep the window from opening all the way. Anyway the person made enough noise for my buddy to hear him over his fan. My buddy is single and sleeps with his revolver under his pillow next to him. The perp stepped into his door frame as my buddy cocked the hammer on his revolver and the perp fled out the front door. Long story short he asked the cop if he shot him and ended up being in his back could he have faced charges and the answer was yes. If he shot him in the front of his body it wouldn't be an issue although still would be taken into custody. He said it all happened so fast he thought it was a dream. He went right back to sleep like nothing happened. When he got up in the morning and saw muddy foot prints on his dining room table where the perp came thru the window he knew it wasn't a dream and called the cops. At that point he was pretty shaken up and called me to vent a little. Pretty scary situation. He said you always think it won't happen to you until it does.
  13. Almost feels like it's raining thumb tacks. Had the same issue riding the wheeler out for ice fishing a couple years ago.
  14. Watched some shows that I recorded earlier in the week. Not worth wasting my time watching something that useless.
  15. No but the county is who deals with the permits. The State Police supposedly deal with the recert. not sure why.
  16. 2 days ago, they held a press conference about it. Not sure I would just take their word on it but it sounds like the Police are tired of the bull crap. http://www.twcnews.com/nys/capital-region/news/2017/01/6/saratoga-county-officials-take-stand-against-new-safe-act-provision.html
  17. If you want to plant some trees to help with the water issue Cyprus are supposed to use a lot of water and used/grow in areas that are wet.
  18. Just saw Saratoga county refuses to follow safe act recert. Clause. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  19. One of those pull behind disc harrow would be the cat's meow but man are they pricey. I have an old 4' spring tooth harrow I use and it does well. It takes all 500cc and 4wd of my polaris sportsman with reasonably new tires to rip that thing around tree roots and other debris. Best thing you can do if it is small tree growth is get one of those brush grabbers and actually remove the saplings roots and all. Old fields are tough being they are mostly sod. If it is an old hay field you should knock down the grass/weeds best you can then spray do this all early in the spring so you don't end up re-seeding all the new seeds into your plot and have twice as many weeds than before you started. Small in my book is 1/4-1/2 acre. I will be doing a couple of these on my property this spring. One clover plot another brassica. This will be my next investment. http://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/countyline-atv-compact-disc?cm_vc=-10005
  20. I was thinking brassicas probably be best in his situation. Clover likes moisture but not that much, corn and soybean don't like wet feet. Not that they won't grow just won't grow to maturity fast and usually of not great quality.
  21. I agree and made this comment once before and he just looked at me funny like I don't know how to weigh my meat.
  22. This is the correct method. Just un-tie from the ladder and lower down after removing strap. The physics is that the straps provide enough friction on the tree it doesn't slip left to right. It might a little but not enough to completely come detached from the tree. I have used this method on all my stands and never had an issue I do all my stands alone I just make sure and have a cell phone on me if something goes sideways.
  23. When I transferred it might have been before the safe act so they might not have done the re-cert. then for me.
  24. I know at my job if I had offensive bumper stickers I would be asked to remove them from the vehicle or not drive that vehicle to work. After that I could be fired. Being a middle school teacher and parking where the parent drop off is lets just leave it at that.
  25. Love my Alpens 8x32 I don't like mono being that the field of view is less and hate squinting. I glass a lot and when I forget my binos in the car or at home and have to use my rangefinder I hate it. My eyes get tired quick with the mono. The mono needs to be higher magnification to give the same effect as binos. Binos allow me to see better in low light situation than the mono or even with my naked eyes.
