  1. Marty he has done all my deer and has done a great job on this last one. I asked him for a pissed off looking mount but had to be upright because I don't have a lot of room for it to stick out like a full sneak.
  2. Getting mine tomorrow! Guy over in Macedon does mine. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  3. There we go I need that for those pesky deer. Always eating my squirrel feed! Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  4. Not sure if you looked into this but I would disassemble the stove and put back together with new sealant. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  5. Here is my 40 and 50 yards one shots. I nailed the 40 and was feeling lucky so went to 50. Also have my little helper. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  6. I used to use the carbon express eliminators (made for dicks 4 years ago) then got the gold tip devastators? (again made for dicks) they are the cheapies but still seem to fly nice. I just try to find arrows with similar GPI so I don't end up needing to change my sights.
  7. I'm with you I'll throw one down range tonight starting at 60 and see how I do. 20 yards is just a chip shot when you're out to 60. I have 5 pins (out to 60) and have tried 70 but the problem is my back stop I don't like to miss or I'll trash the arrow. You guys will see what I mean when I throw up a picture.
  8. I apologize if I am wrong just what a factory rep told me. I figured they would know best. My father and I just looked at each other with that Holy $H** face when he threw out the numbers.
  9. Those scopes are the Bushnell sportsman 3-9x40 one of bushnell's cheaper scopes but they work well on those guns. I have basically the same rifle 770 in .243 for my wife and have taken that rifle when walking and stalking because it is so light. The 770s were hit or miss you got a good one or a crap one. I don't know much about the 783 just know it was a take off the 770.
  10. It was the nosler rep at the nosler booth at the harrisburg sportsman show. He did say the .30 was much better barrel life and to expect about 1000 rounds.
  11. Personally I wouldn't own a nosler 26. I talked to one of the reps and he said you would be lucky to 300 rounds out of the barrel. By my standard that is unacceptable for any average Joe but there was a niche and they filled it with that gun and cartridge.
  12. I have to agree, the .257 is an impressive round but for what the OP is looking for it doesn't fit the bill.
  13. Here is something else most of us wouldn't think about. If for some reason the said ladder stand fell out from under you and you were tethered to the tree how would you get down? After just a few minutes of hanging the harness will cut off the blood supply to your legs and they will become useless. After I think 15 minutes (might be less) you could suffer a serious blood clot that once the pressure is relieved could kill you. So at what point do you say cut the rope and hope for the best and end up falling 15' or 10'? How about when you swing back into one of those screw in steps? It will puncture you and I hope it isn't into a vital organ. Yeah I know how likely is it to happen but how likely are you to fall? I will admit I don't wear a safety harness but will this season knowing that I would like to see my son grow up. I will also invest into some 550 cord and keep about 8 feet and a 1 oz weight with me in case I need to rig something up to get myself down. That 550 cord obviously isn't ideal but I don't have enough room in my pocket for larger rope.
  14. I have to agree somewhat unless you are looking at a CDL or more expensive version 700s. The lower end are just that. I still say the best bang for the buck is the Tikka T3 hunter and in an readily available cartridge (.270 .243 30-06, .308, 25-06) Did I mention the Tikka utilizes the Sako barrel? Longevity wise you shouldn't be able to wear out that barrel and if you do, get a new one maybe even a new caliber. I have heard good things about the Weatherby Vanguard as well. They actually have 2 different versions one that shoots MOA at 100 yards (1" group @ 100 yards) and one that is sub MOA (Less than 1" group @ 100 yards)
  15. I thought you were saying wingmasters in general.
  16. I have fired those style before I think tractor supply sells them or something close and they burn through wood FAST, I'm not talking softwoods. If you are planning on heating with it you will need to stoke it about every 3 hours and at the 3 hour mark you will have coals. They are nice for the ambiance but that is about it. I would recommend a bigger more square firebox if you are planning on heating primarily with it so you can load more wood for overnight burns. I recommend putting it near a door so when you bring in wood it keeps the mess to a minimum. Wood stoves aren't clean but they warm you at least 4 times!
  17. Guys the ladder stands come with those "Guide ropes" for a reason. You are supposed to wrap them behind the tree and back to the ladder for a reason. You shouldn't be just propping it against the tree then climbing. I can see how someone would fall without a harness if he didn't make it up the tree before he could tie off. Glad he made it out with only a few broken bones, a lot worse could have happened. Word to the wise, use those straps!
  18. The new 870 wingmasters are blued not matte, the 870 express magnums are the matte finish. The matte easily rusts compared to it's nicer counterpart.
  19. .270 is a great caliber and with a nice bullet you can easily take a bear or deer. I love my .270 winchester and it is hard to take any other gun into the woods. With that being said I have no experience with the Browning A bolt. I do however like the TIkka T3, Remington 700, Thompson center (now that smith and wesson owns them), Ruger M77 (haven't shot the american to comment on it). I don't like Savage but they have a large following. I have saw and shot 3 different Savages and I can not stand the accutrigger and one of them can barely keep them in a pie plate at 200 yards. They are everything that a trigger shouldn't be. I would recommend running the actions on all 4 brands I mentioned along with the A bolt and get the one that feels the smoothest and has the best trigger feel for you. I will say that for me the Tikka T3 trigger has a better feel than any rifle I have shot (excluding the high end brands).
  20. I'm one of those crazy guys that like penetration and simple stuff. Hence a fixed 3 blade broadhead on all my hunting arrows. I like the ultimate steel so I in the next couple seasons I will need to change to a muzzy or similar. The QAD exodus looks like a winner and have seen some cool tests. Youtube has a bunch, I provided a link below. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=qad+exodus+broadhead+test
  21. Or allow those liberal states to become more conservative and vote out the liberal offcials! See glass half full you should try it some time.
  22. Look up the county tax maps and see what parcels in your area are classified as and run it through the clerks office to see if it limits what you would like to do with the property i.e. hunt, cabin/dwelling, water source (well, or town water), septic/sewage. Best bet is to use one of those GIS interactive tax property search. You can type in your street name and it will give you an aerial picture with adjacent properties and their tax maps boundaries.
  23. Shed, spray foam 2" the walls, and ceiling. and the critters won't live in the walls. They use batt insulation as nests. Look into some solar panels with small battery array or do all propane. They have those nifty propane wall lamps that us a mantle just need to plumb for propane. A plus with propane is you can have one of those vent free wall units for heat.
