    First buck

My dad and I each had a treestands in the same tree, just clocked from one another. November 16th, 1998 I got my first deer, a spike, after a couple hours of us hunting. It was my first deer hunt. I used a youth 20g shotgun. The puddles of blood I will never forget. It is shoulder mounted on my wall.
  2. Personally, I am stupid anal about people touching my vehicles, so I do the maintenance myself. If I did not care, I would pay the “X” amount of dollars for the oil change, and tire rotation, etc. I’m an odd one though about this stuff. I have simply always been a DIYer too. My new vehicle is a 10k mile interval between oil, so twice a year roughly, and it’s $29 for factory brand oil, and filter. I live far from dealers as well. I simply do not trust the oil change shops in our area, pretty much use an impact gun on the drain plugs. plus, at work I am our maintenance/preventative maintenance guy during our slow season.
  3. Quick warmup before going to my other tree!
  4. I picked up a 4 pack of those cams! Then later on at the supermarket, Energizer Max AA’s were on sale for $2.77 for an 8 pack, so I bought 4 regular price was $6.99 the crooks.
  5. 24 degrees here, feels great too lol it is super quiet, it feels very loud to slowly move my head, dragging against the clothing! Hunting here until about noon, quick run inside for bacon, and eggs, with Jenn, and then back out until dark o’clock.
  6. Great info, thank you again. this early snow cover has helped me really see the deer trails, etc. I have noticed a random bed, etc, and one new stand location, I can see a good ways out, so it’s all good info I am retaining for next seasons scouting. as you say, right place, right time, some luck, that’s how I got my big deer, and it definitely changed me! Looking to shorten the time in between, and try to better my odds. Thanks for all the input!
  7. Great info to reread a bunch of times, thank you! this is my 20th deer season, and I have never tried to learn, in order to better the odds until 2014, when I got my big buck. I wish I paid attention sooner...
  8. Great advice, I like that, THANK YOU. I have to say, I do not get buck pics even in September when velvets coming off. I feel like my big buck pics in November, are of these 5 mile wanderers! They are 9 times out of 10, a one pic event. This is why I get so curious as to why...although 2 spots year, after year in a path show rubs. Is this possibly the path of least resistance like a deer highway....
  9. I’m gonna barf! You are the one who lets these nasties cross your mind first! Haha
  10. I feel better now, that my feet just dont hate me so much. Will definitely keep using the bags, it seems to mask the boots chill.
  11. You are a good guy, I seriously appreciate the enthusiasm! I mean that. i hope your colleague is doing ok.
