  1. If I had an AR that had an upper with a caliber suited for big game, I'd want to hunt whitetails with it. It's just another tool in the box.
  2. After school jobs were mowing lawns, dishwasher, shelf stocker (Star market for those old enough to remember that chain). Toolmaker, CNC Machinist, Toolroom Supervisor, Operations Manager, Senior Management at a manufacturing company. 5-10 years to semi-retirement!
  3. Sorry for your loss Dom.
  4. Neither my wife or I have ever owned cats in our lives. We have owned dogs ever since we’ve been married (35+ years) and when we were kids, both of our families had dogs but no cats. Dogs always lived in the house, only outside to play or exercise on a leash or in a fenced yard. There were some short lived escapes over the years that caused problems, but that’s another story. We live in a rural area. About a year ago someone dumped a young cat on our property. We heard the car pull up in front of our driveway in the evening, and when I looked out the window, the person was just getting back into the car and drove off. The next day we found the cat in our chicken coop curled up with the chickens. We connected the dots with the previous car stop. The cat looked good (not feral looking like the ones I see in the woods), but malnourished and very timid of people. Over the next couple of days, we called every animal shelter we could find in the area, and absolutely not one of them was accepting cats. So yes, I fed the darn thing. I couldn’t let it starve and the way that it was obviously wary of people, I guess it was mistreated. I like animals. We let it live with the chickens while we tried to find a shelter. That turned into weeks and we didn’t find one that wouldn’t just euthanize it. A Craigslist ad to give her away didn’t help either. Well, what we didn’t know is that she was also pregnant. Only one kitten survived. We recently had her and her kitten spayed, shots, etc and otherwise brought “up to code”, and now we are accidental cat owners for the first time in our lives. They live outside with the chickens (heated coop in the winter) and are not coming into the house with our little dog. They catch mice, the chipmunks that dig up the flower bulbs, and I’m sure they take the occasional bird. I’m a pretty lousy bird hunter, so I figure it evens out...The few neighbors we have nearby all have cats. I don't care that they come on our property, and they don't care about ours. Everyone has had their cats fixed, and it looks like the cats have their own little friend network. I would shoot a feral cat if it was obviously feral. The ones that we do have in the woods are gnarly looking, nasty cats. But if it looked like someone's escaped cat I give them a pass. As far as cats getting into the garbage, I've got more of that with bears and raccoons so I don't put it out any earlier than I have to.
  5. I've got six coverts (MP6's and MP8's) of varying ages, up to three years for the first purchase. All are still running. No issues, battery life is excellent. I just did a card pull on the weekend for three of them and still have 1/2 to 3/4's battery life. Those batteries have been in the cams since before archery season. I've got a pile of wildviews, stealths and WGI's that quit early in their lives. I've got a Moultrie white flash that is over 5 years old and still works. Love the Coverts!
  6. My sincere condolences ApexerER. I've lost a dog that hit me as hard as it's hit you. Nothing at all wrong with that. Time will help.
  7. Too bad for the Packers. Go Colts! Bills fan here, so I hate the Pats!
  8. Life long Bills fan here. I think it was a solid hire. Best HC prospect since Wade Phillips in the 90's. Most (if not all) current head coaches have been fired from a previous job. Even Belichick got fired from the Browns in 1996. I agree that they need to upgrade the offense and if rumors prove true, Greg Roman will be the new OC. Ryan went to back to back AFC title games with a young and inconsistent QB and Buffalo has one of those... GO BILLS!
  9. Saw that selfie law mentioned on the news a few minutes ago. Only in New Yorkistan!
  10. It doubles as a rifle range in the summer!
  11. 14 ft to the floor, 6.5 ft x 6.5 ft wide. Propane heater, interior solar lights, carpeted floor. But certainly not easily moved. 360 degree watch, with a 400 yard view in the second pic.
  12. Merry Christmas Grow, and to all the other members as well!
  13. Welcome to the forum. Lots of great information here!
  14. i've had great performance with Covert MP6 black flash cameras. I've got 5 of them with the oldest being about 1& 1/2 yrs old and have been outside since new. No failures, decent pic quality, and 4 months plus on battery life with literally thousands of pics. Choice of either 4 or 8 AA's but I've always went with 8. They're the older model, but still available online for about $125.
  15. Welcome, you'll like this site!
  16. Congrats Gywnne! Hope it's the first of many!!
  17. Hey Fasteddie, that's pretty much how I've always done it. A lot of times, I'll just look through the card and drag the keeper photos over to a certain folder and then just delete the whole lot to clear the card.
  18. You're a class guy coonhunter. The deer hunting fraternity needs more like you!
  19. Congrats to your father - magnificent buck!
  20. Hi Pygmy, I didn't know about that. Dang! There's some bigger ones dropped around here though. As a matter of fact most of the big boys on my trail cam collection this year are accounted for already.
  21. Trail cam pic of hers from a couple of months ago.
  22. Have a field pic of hers, but didn't have anything to wipe the blood off with. I was mindful of hanging tongues though. No field pics of mine unfortunately. Hard to see in the pic, but there is an extra 1 and 1/2 inch point splitting off the right brow tine. It's visible in the first pic. We're counting the broken tine as a point.
