  1. She got her first buck, a smaller 8 point last year on the opener. Same stand, same neck shot, and dropped it in exactly that same spot. It was also on the same date! Something tells me that stand is going to be locked in for future years! She's got some mojo going there.
  2. Congrats jrussel! It doesn't matter if it's average size, it's your first and firsts are always special memories. Now go get a buck and make a second special memory!
  3. So Sunday turned out to be a pretty special Daddy /daughter day. My youngest daughter started hunting with us a few years ago, getting her first buck last year on opening day. This year she sat in the same stand, and at about 10 am had a wide nine pointer chasing a doe toward her. She dropped it in his tracks at 50 yds with a neck shot. She's still pretty stoked about it! At about 4pm, I was watching a field corner that had a few does and fawns feeding. A nice rutted up buck came trotting out grunting and chasing one of the does. He gave me a nice broadside look and I dropped him at 166 yds (ranged it after the shot). I was pretty happy to see an extra kicker making him another nine pointer. When we were getting ready to leave for the morning watch, she said "let's have a buck slaying Sunday", so we did! That's going to hard to top!
  4. I thought Astorino did well. He was poised, and was on the offense against the Fuhrer. None of the candidates made any gaffes, although Cuomo looked annoyed or pained at times. Or that just might be his normal expression besides the times he smiles when stripping us of our second amendment rights.
  5. Wow, nice ride! You're going to love that!
  6. Now that you mention it, I've only seen a couple of garters so far this year. Usually we see a lot more than that by mid summer. Newts, toads, and frogs are abundant though.
  7. Doe with a Ramcharger in the 80's. Head shot with the bumper. no damage, doe dead. Two does (double) on the thruway in the fog with a Ford Tempo in the 90's. Car and deer died. My wife hit an 8 point with a Stratus in '05. Car kept rollin', deer dead. Doe ran into the side of my Yaris on I-86 3 years ago. Doe dead. Yaris kept on rollin. Many close calls. That's enough for me!
  8. A politician is a politician, and I try to never forget that. But I've had it with the current state of NY. Highest cost in everything, ranked the lowest in many important categories. This is the Republican nominee, and he's got my vote. Heck, I've never put a bumper sticker of any kind on a painted surface of any vehicle I've owned, but I've got an Astorino in 2014 sticker on my daily ride now. Just helping with name recognition...
  9. Good point Greenecounty, but I wasn't being serious. Just speaking emotionally after thinking about my past experiences with the jackwagon trespassers. But actually I wouldn't mind in the least if I hunted with an ECO. I'm never afraid to learn something new, and it seems like it would be a good connection.
  10. With the trespasser crap I've had to put up with on opening morning of rifle season 3 of the last 4 years, I'd offer money for one to hunt with me. Hell, I'd give him food and lodging!
  11. I must have zero imagination. My name is Jerry, live in Steuben County. Go figure...
  12. I only hunt them occasionally (and I'm not very good at it), but I'm out in my woods quite a bit. I'd say sightings are a little below average this past year. 2012-2013 I couldn't walk in the woods without putting at least one up. I'm looking forward to hearing the drumming soon. Good sign of spring and this winter has dragged on too loooong! 8T Town of Thurston.
  13. Bear's ear for sure. I've had a few cameras roughed up, and have similar pics.
  14. Recent real estate listing in central Tennessee; 3130 sq ft log home with 20 x 30' outbuilding on 48 acres with a pond. Acerage 60% wooded. $223k, property taxes $1240. The place looks gorgeous! I'd include the link, but I may not want the competition!
  15. The most driving force for me is the rapidly increasing costs to live in this once great state. My property taxes keep going up, $8,000/yr 4 years ago, $10,000/yr now, and my assessment went up again (I haven't done anything to increase my home value in that time except build a few treestands - maybe that's it). The Safe act is one more straw on the camels back. Now yesterday I read that Andy is giving tax credits to renters, but none for homeowners. Another straw. I won't be able to afford the projected taxes here when I retire so I can't retire here. That's how I feel. I'm in research and explore mode. Thinking of Tennessee.
  16. Some of us had a slow deer season and some of us had a good deer season. But no matter what kind of season you had, I hope everyone has an absolutely great holiday! Merry Christmas to the HuntingNY.com community, the best people on earth! ps, all I want for Christmas is a full repeal of the NY SAFE act!
  17. Roughed in this stand last year and finished it this year. The paint job blends it in somewhat with the tree behind it that is overtaken with wild grape vines. 400 yard look down range. 330 degree view. No deer have been taken from it...yet. That's going to change in a few days.
  18. Can someone point me to a link on how to post pictures? I've got the photobucket account, but am getting an error when posting. Thanks!
