Sunday afternoon is the first chance I'll have to sit in a stand, but I hope to see some deer down photos on the Live From the Field thread before then. Best of luck and safety to all afield...

Very Diverse State land 9P "Honey Hole " Card Pull
Rebel Darling replied to Hang Em High's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
Wow... That's a great spot! Enjoy the viewing, and the hunting! I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk -
Thanks, guys... I put a call in, but got redirected to voicemail.

Similar situation... Homemade venison meat sauce and hand-pounded bread. Store shelf pasta, but two out of three is the better part. Gone before I thought to snap a pic. I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk

I think I'll call DEC to ask if they received my request. Did you all get confirmation emails (if you signed up via email)? I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk

Thanks for sharing... In light of my experience this year, I think it's an approach I need to consider on my small parcel in 4L. My neighbor across the street took the alpha doe (she was a horse!) last season, and she had a group of 6 others with her. I haven't seen that group all year, and have mostly seen a single doe and her two fawns. Every now and again a group of three wander through. I don't know if the group broke apart, or if they moved on to another area (which could be due to a variety of factors and food sources). My apple tree produced zilch this year. Despite the lack of apples, I had thought (hoped) I'd see the remaining does in that group bunched up and walking the lines. There's still time, I guess, but I think my neighbor shifted the natural order of things. If I have an opportunity to harvest a second in command, I'll give that a try... I'll be out of state for the opening weekend, but hope to take a pair of does in 4J in the early season (starting next week) to fill the freezer, and to calm the nerves. I will, however, carry that antlered tag with me just in case... I don't have any particular bucks that I'm hunting (small fellas on the cams), but I do hope this year is the year I bow a buck down. There are also vibration absorbing stabilizers. A few days ago, I added monkey tails to my cables (they were already on my string), and that made a difference. I had to make sure that placement didn't affect my sight, nor touch the drawn arrow. I have a drop-away rest, and I'll be adding moleskin to the shelf so the there's no clicking there. I'm also going to add moleskin (or felt to the part of the riser just above the shelf, and under my sight to prevent any tapping from an unsteady arrow (read: unsteady me). Seems like "Turkey Foot" might be a good name for that fella...

Last card pull until opening day

Wow... Good eyes, folks. Baiting wasn't even on my radar. -
I sent them a request email to sign up, but didn't receive any confirmation that my email was seen by someone on the DEC side. Does DEC just send the log in the mail, or did you receive a confirmation email?

I've got no idea on the age, but that's a pretty solid neck, with some belly sag. Good looking, healthy buck right there. Also - Cool pic of the owl, too! -

Apple Blossoms
Rebel Darling replied to Rebel Darling's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Thanks, Grow. I had hoped you'd reply. Much appreciated. I think there's about two dozen blossoms scattered about, so I'm hoping for a generous Spring blossom. We had only six or so apples this year. I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk -
So... Now that we're approaching the first frost, my apple tree just blossomed. This is new to me this late in the year, and it seems like this tree is confused and fighting. The weather has been erratic the entire year. Any insight from those with more experience? I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk

Some real unique antler tines on that first buck... I haven't seen tines split off on both side like that. Good luck w/ them! I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk

One night, around 11:00 p.m. in the Albany airport, while waiting for the lady's flight to arrive, Ray Liotta walked by me in a light windbreaker, the collar popped up. He stared me down and blew right by. His look said, "don't you dare say an f*&$%ing thing." He was in town for "A Place Beyond the Pines."

He played Jake Fratelli in one of my favorite childhood movies, "The Goonies."

35 yards from a stand (25ish on level) is the limit of my comfort zone, and at that, I'd prefer the deer to be completely unaware. In order to increase the distance, I'd like to have a faster bow with less drop in the trajectory. It's only my second season, but just how quickly the arrow drops gives me pause and concern on longer distances. That's a lot of feel and experience I simply don't have at the moment. I could compensate with flatter trajectory and greater speed off the bow, but the account says, "Nope. You just bled me for a stand. Maybe next year." I also want a quieter bow. If I could get a bow to near as silent as possible, I would be thrilled. I really want a quieter bow.

I've got some small game broadheads (Montec G5) in the mail, and expect them Friday. Hope to take a few squirrels and get some target practice in while I'm at it. Any tips on recipes?

That bag sure looks convenient. Please keep us posted on how it works out for you...

Cat-napper!

Again, I'm no lawyer, but I draw a distinction between lawful activity and a right. A right cannot be removed, as in your right to freedom of religion, speech, to peacefully assemble, etc. A lawful activity can be legislated out of existence, as in raising the drinking age to 21 from 18, or banning indoor smoking. This, in my opinion is a lawful activity, which is different from a right. And... As far as the "no action..." language is concerned, I'd be hesitant to act on the statute without consulting someone who's familiar with ENV law, or related case law. The last clause in that sentence ("...as provided in this section.") leaves a door open for interpretation of what is a "humane" dispatch, and whether or not a cat is "at large." You could be 100% justified in your actions, and within the definition of the law, and if the neighbor has resources or the will, there is likely a lawyer somewhere (close) that might file suit based on whether it was a humane dispatch and/or if the cat was at large. Despite the statute's apparent definitive statement of action, I can see room for interpretation in the statute. I'd get my ducks in a row (write to the town, local law enforcement, get everything I can in writing) before I employed this statute. Again, I ain't no lawyer, but this is one hell of a litigious state.
