  3. Wow... Thank you for sharing that bit of wisdom.
  4. I have tracked the Legislature for 13 years, and run a company on my reputation of expertise. If there's something you'd like to know, you can ask a question, instead of taking pot-shots. It's a simple process. I have answered you time and again, politely, and succinctly. I can't help but take your "big talkers" comment as a passive aggressive comment directed at me. I don't talk big, I comment on what I know. One thing I have yet to hear from you is, "thank you." If you want to be the biggest man in the room, have at it, and good luck when you meet with legislators. Here's a reply I had written earlier, and was then taken away because I'm busy tracking the Legislature. As you'll see, part of my comment includes approaching Gunther. Best of luck, Mike: "Our back-and-forths once again confuse me, Mike.

I described the above political realities because you asked me to explain how I knew that the bill is dead, and because you stated that the bill "is NOT dead." I originally replied on this thread because BKhunter asked for our thoughts. My thought is, "the Assembly bill is dead; the issue is dead for the year."

Your follow-up statement, "however it would be productive..." makes it seem like you think that I'm attempting to one-up you, I haven't lived up to some unstated expectation, or we're in some contest, when, in fact, I'm simply replying to your question.

You have an unusual way of responding to information you've asked for here, and on other threads in which I've provided you with information. I've only replied when asked, and then you reply as if I'm telling you something you already know, even though you asked, because you didn't know... Yeah, it's confusing. In the above comment, you write that my take would be appreciated, but you've prefaced that with statements that suggest your mind is already made up.

So on this particular issue, moose hunting, and with the next legislative session in mind, here's what I suggest:
 - Approach DiPietro and ask if he'd be willing to give the bill to Gunther and sign on as a Co-sponsor. Things will not fly, as you've written, with DiPietro as the lead sponsor.
 - Many hunters do understand the influence of grassroots lobbying. NYBowhunters (like 'em or leave 'em) has an effective network and communication strategy. I'm sure there are others out there. They are models to be joined, or replicated, and require cooperation and coordination over singular vision. Yeah, it's messy.

  5. Hi, Mike. Yes, I am 100% sure. "Held for consideration" is a political euphemism for "dead." That bill will not move. The majority members (minus Aileen Gunther, who votes Aye on many hunting bills) on the committee voted to "hold" it, which, in effect and in reality, kills the bill. This is 13 years experience in legislative coverage writing. The bill, despite your reasoning, IS dead. Lawmakers are scheduled to leave town today (and I hope to high heaven they do), and moose hunting is not on the Assembly's radar, especially not a bill sponsored by DiPietro, a Republican member in a Democratic chamber. The bill can be reintroduced anytime after Nov. 15, this year, when pre-filing for the 2017-18 Legislative Session begins. And if DiPietro carries the bill, it will be "held for consideration" again, and again, and again...
  6. In case anyone is interested, the NYS Senate is considering the nomination of Basil Seggos as Commissioner, DEC: 7:40 p.m. http://www.ustream.tv/channel/nysenate
  7. The legislation died in the Assembly (A3742-A, DiPietro) on May 10.
  8. I've seen the same here on Taborton Mtn in the past week. A twenty minute drive, and five dead along the roadside. I had a close call with a group of does last evening (the bachelors were already in the field), and this morning, the lady came up on a doe and a new fawn. The doe stood in the middle of the road waiting for the fawn to decide which side to run towards.
  9. Is it possible to enable the uploading of .m4v files? I've tried to post video in .m4v format a couple of times, and an file-type error appears. Am I missing an option, or is there a reason to block this file type? Thanks very much...
  10. We call that the "Bucket O'Death" over here.
  11. I was sold on the QAD drop away, and am noticing similar sound issues, but when I draw the string - a light squeal. I think I need to lubricate the shaft that runs through the housing. There is also the initial loud click when setting the rest. I haven't noticed clinking after a shot, though. I've also had issues with the timing of the drop, which requires some time and patience to get right. The fletch rubbed against the rest, and eventually wore down and tore away the padding on the rest, which presented an opportunity for a loud arrow bouncing around when moving the bow. I've heard that the whisker biscuit whiskers can wear down, or that they can develop grooves, which can alter flight path if the fletch doesn't hit the biscuit just right. I have no personal experience with them, however.
  12. Great idea, and real fine results. It looks great. That personal touch certainly makes the mount more meaningful... I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk

  14. I don't know what it'll be just yet, but after this week, I'm looking forward to drinking beer.
  15. I think amending the bill to specify physical control as a distance no more than an arm's length would go a long way in gaining wider support. I wonder if the Conservation Council is amenable to the language change. If I saw the bill amended to reflect that change, I'd write to the sponsors, the committee chairs, and my legislators to inform them of my support. I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk
  16. Hi, Joe. I have a few suggestions: I agree with stone's comment on being mobile friendly. Google now ranks and displays their search results using mobile accessibility as a factor. I would also recommend simplifying the home page for an easier load. I haven't dealt with WIX, so I'm unsure of what kinds of display templates they offer, but if a single item is possible, I'd use that and focus the visitor's interest on that single item (perhaps a trailer for the latest episode) paired up with a brief description on the site and show's goal and mission. I had some right to left scrolling issues, which might be specific to my browser (Firefox) and OS (mac), but I think that resizing (or eliminating) the background photo could solve that issue, if you find that the scrolling right to left occurs across multiple browsers. All that said (or written), I think it's great that you folks are developing a series and are working hard to realize the effort. It's awesome, and I'm very much looking forward to watching more episodes. Keep up the good work, Joe & Co.! PS - If you ever need some soundtrack material, I know of some music you might like to sample...
  17. I, like Elmo, am interested in elk hunts out west. Perhaps in a year or two. I've learned quite a bit from this thread on getting started, and I thank everyone for sharing their recommendations and experience. I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk
  18. I had the pleasure of seeing him perform and listening to him sing a few years back somewhere in the middle of Montana. RIP, Merle, and may your family celebrate your life long past sorrow. I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk

  21. Thanks to everyone out there for keeping it safe and smart... I know I appreciate it.
  22. At this point, I won't be purchasing a crossbow, and will continue to hunt with my compound. I'm looking forward to improving my skills as a bow hunter, and hope to improve my still hunting with a bow.
  23. Just now seeing this, fasteddie... I just found the "View New Posts" link... Ha. Thanks very much for the wish! I had a great B-Day with lots of good folk around.
  24. How about some "American Beauty" from Dogfish Head for the Grateful Dead? I've enjoyed that beer on rare occasion. http://www.dogfish.com/brews-spirits/the-brews/occasional-rarities/american-beauty/index.htm
