  1. Can't help but wonder if the reaction would have been the same if it WASN'T a rose
  2. Strap on some x-country skis or snowshoes and go out and enjoy it. Good exercise, plenty to explore, and no bug spray required

  5. ALBANY — Gov. Cuomo wants to increase the background check waiting period for the purchase of firearms in New York to a maximum 10 days, the Daily News has learned. “We need to do everything in our power to keep guns out of the hands of people too dangerous to have them,” a Cuomo administration official said Saturday. Cuomo intends to make the issue a priority in the final weeks of the state budget talks with the Legislature, which are set to conclude by April 1, the administration official said. “In light of the school shooting tragedy in Florida, the governor is seeking to make the SAFE Act, which is already the strongest gun safety law in the country, even stronger,” the Cuomo source said. “This is about the safety of New Yorkers and the safety of our children.” Under current law, anyone seeking to purchase a pistol, shotgun or rifle in New York must undergo a background check. That check has three possible outcomes. The first allows the purchase to proceed immediately. The second is a denial of the sale. And the third is a call for a delay in the delivery of the gun. That delay, under current law, can last only up to three days and then the gun can be delivered to the buyer. Cuomo will seek to push that maximum delay to 10 days. Doing so would give the FBI more opportunity to let the dealer know if they found something in the database that should kill the sale, supporters say. The Democrat-controlled Assembly has already pushed a gun control package that includes the 10-day waiting period. The proposed extension of the background check waiting period is the second gun control initiative Cuomo wants as part of the budget talks. He already had proposed a law that would take guns away from all convicted domestic abusers instead of just those convicted of felonies.

  7. Public Input on Deer Population Size The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is responsible for managing New York's wild deer resource for the benefit of all citizens of the state, now and in the future. Understanding how citizens are benefiting from or being harmed by deer and what their values and priorities are with respect to deer management is an important part of fulfilling that responsibility. We are now using a survey-based process to gather the information on citizens' preferences that will help DEC biologists set deer population objectives. The Survey-based Process DEC collaborated with the Cornell University Human Dimensions Research Unit (HDRU) to design a survey that will be mailed to homeowners throughout the state in 2018 and 2019. The survey asks respondents questions about: • their interests and concerns related to deer, • how they would like to see the deer population in their area change over the next several years, and • how important deer management issues are to them. Survey results, in combination with data on deer impacts on forest regeneration, will be used to guide deer population management decisions. Because heavy browsing by deer can have profound and long-lasting negative impacts on forest ecosystems (PDF, 1.9 MB), keeping those impacts at a sustainable level is a top priority for DEC deer managers. The Aggregates in color will be surveyed first. The 92 Wildlife Management Units (WMUs) in New York have been grouped into 23 WMU Aggregates for the purposes of collecting and analyzing data relevant for deer population management. These Aggregates were defined based on similarities in ecological conditions and human and deer population characteristics. The 7 Aggregates identified on the map will be surveyed in 2018; the rest of the state will be surveyed in 2019. The priorities of Aggregate residents, in combination with local forest conditions, will determine the desired direction of deer population change (up, down, or no change) for the Aggregate for the subsequent five years. Deer Management Permit (DMP) issuance quotas will be set to achieve the desired change. Aggregates will be re-surveyed periodically and management directions will be adapted as necessary to fit the most recent data.

  9. Looks like you are looking for something to hunt with instead. Not trying to convince you just trying to provide a viable option to what you said you wanted in the first place. By all means go buy the biggest caliber you can carry and enjoy shooting it.
  10. My choice that will surely cause some controversy but I have shot deer with it with good results. It is also a fun caliber to shoot and more than enough for self defense. I went to this from a .357 magnum because the ballistics were comparable, the recoil/noise are substantially less and I didn't want to go to a 10mm. Would I shoot a bear with it?....probably not but up close it should be effective: the .40 s&w.
  11. That could indeed happen I have heard rumors that Cumo has a museum/hall of fame for ones that pay the amount of taxes you pay.
  12. That's why I am getting cremated. As far as bigfoot I would prefer to trap him/her to practice catch & release
  13. The advantage of blaze orange is it immediately removes the "what is it factor" and can do so a long ways away.
  14. When people actually talked to each other and watched where they were walking instead of text, facebook, snapchat, e-mail, voice mail, and forums.
  15. I somewhat disagree with you on this. In three years from now some of these "kids" will become lawyers and possibly lawmakers that have not forgotten the experience(s) of their childhood. Unless they develop some common sense between now and then; gun owners are likely to be restricted more than ever based on knee jerk reactions instead of a common sense approach. Until such time they are able or willing to make decisions on their own instead of jumping on the band wagon with their classmates and friends when the in thing is "gun control" there will be more of a movement. Not many have the ability to think outside the box and address the real issues at hand especially when teachers and parents are pushing the agenda.
