  1. First of all I am not criticizing ANYTHING about your loads, choke, shot placement, or your techniques. Just explaining what has worked for me. When I travel to hunt or hunt all night I usually carry two guns and one is a shotgun. One night after missing three fox with the .22 mag (which is normally deadly accurate) I pulled out the back up which on this night was a .20 gauge double barrel with 3" mag copper buffed 4's. I made a stand expecting to call gray fox when all of the sudden two coyotes came rushing in from behind me at approximately 35-40 yds. I shot the lead one and it rolled ass over tea cups dead and the second one took off. I also have hit fox & coyotes and had them get away. It happens and I usually blame it on bad shot placement on my part. When I hit them good they go down plain & simple. Up until the time I bought the .22 mag. I shot a lot of fox with a shotgun and also lost a few. When I started using the .22 mag I lost more than I got and was ready to give it up until I started using the v-max bullets. Since using the v-max I have not lost one unless it was a miss. I am not a big fan of carrying a center fire at night and only use it during the day. A lot of guys do hunt with a center fire at night but I prefer not to. To each there own. I am just explaining what has worked for me. Lets face it some have been shot and killed with a .22 but that doesn't mean I am going to use one. Maybe your coyotes are bigger and tougher than ours who knows. Here is an example: This was a 250yd shot with a.243 using a 87 grain v-max bullet:
  2. I personally am not for any government mandates. The dilemma with setting a age is some may be ready at that age and some may not. I know a couple of kids that have been hunting and target shooting by themselves since they were 12 yrs old (with their parents blessing on their property); and others in their 30's that still shouldn't have a gun. Tough one to call.
  3. I seldom use a shotgun. My go to is the .22 mag with the v-max at night. During the day I will use the .223 but will use the .22 mag. on occasion . About the only time I use the shotgun is for greys, and if I am hunting the woods, but have killed coyotes with the shotgun. A couple of dog guys I know only hunt them with shotguns and do pretty good. As with anything else...shot placement is the key to success.
  4. I know of a section in 8w that is just like that. We always hunted it anyways because it butted up to my parents property and all the neighboring properties hunted it also. I think all a lease does is give one exclusive rights and the right to post it but that doesn't mean others won't be hunting it when the lessee isn't around.
  5. I use a extra full choke...keeps the pattern pretty tight so it has to be a good shot. Short yardages are the best. 50 yds. or less. I think anything over that and you are pushing it.
  6. They have land in some strange areas and a lot of it is land locked or almost impossible to get to.
  7. 3" mag. with copper buffed 4's or 3 1/2" mag at a minimum. Best rounds out of a .22 mag are these"
  8. A must have for close up action once a critter has been spotted. I have had them work at 150 yds. Any household dog toy will work and you can duplicate the sound by "kissing" the back of your hand and sucking air in. Mine is taped to the gun barrel with electrical tape so it is right there when needed.
  9. There is always a chance of seeing one but shooting one is challenging. If they catch your smell or catch any movement they will be gone in a flash. Keep movement to a minimum and if using a .22 be prepared to make follow up shots.
  10. Sounds like you are under gunned for coyotes. Might be better off sitting in the woods with a 12 gauge & 3" mags. Main thing is play the wind. Nine times out of ten they will approach from the down wind side. Probably not a good weekend to try it. This weekend there is a state wide predator hunt with 159 "teams" participating with a good number of them being from the surrounding areas. Contest begins tonight and runs through Sunday am. Check in is not to far from Webster and it could be interesting to check it out. I believe check in deadline is 1:00 pm CHECK IN: There is only one check in and that is on Sunday January 28 at 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. The check-in will take place at Carey Lake Restaurant & Party House, 959 Walworth-Penfield Rd (Rt 441) Macedon, NY
  11. My own .22 pistol....Lost it in one night when coon hunting in a swamp. Didn't realize it until I got back to the truck. I walked back in to the general area and was lucky enough to find it under 6" of water. That was the last time I carried it in a shoulder holster. You can't imagine the thoughts running through my head while searching and the relief/joy when I found it.
  12. One of my most cherished possessions was a ugly stick ultralight fishing pole with a light spinning reel. One time while bass fishing opening weekend in the islands with some friends I accidently threw it over the side. After a thousand casts and who knows how many beers. When I made the cast the handle hit the rail on the side of the boat and took it right out of my hand to the bottom of the St. Lawrence. I have regretted that incident and missed that pole every since. One other time while ice fishing trying to clean out a hole my spud went to the bottom of the lake because I didn.t have a rope tied to it. Other than a couple of coonhounds that always came back that is about it for me.
  13. Mailed mine today certified mail. Can't wait to see how long it takes to get on record but at least I am in compliance

That one looks like it may be out of shotgun range
  16. I don't believe the issue here is who does and does not get paid if the government shuts down. The real issue is our government officials are not doing the job they were elected to do and are sitting in their protected environment playing games on our dime and continue to draw their paychecks while others suffer. Trump need to step up his draining the swamp campaign and get the deadbeats off their thrones.

    Best way to handle that:
  19. I think it does: Troop pay Active-duty troops, as well as Guard and Reserve members, would not get paid during a shutdown unless Congress passes a separate piece of legislation to do so. Troops killed in action Newly bereaved family members would not receive the Pentagon’s $100,000 death gratuity during a shutdown or military-funded travel to Dover Air Force Base, Delaware, or elsewhere for the dignified transfer or military funeral or memorial It is all irrelevant now anyway: Senate Votes Overwhelmingly to End Government Shutdown • The Senate voted 81-18 to break the filibuster and reopen the government.
  20. May sound stupid but they work. There are a number of types out there at different prices to fit each budget. I think I paid about $25 for mine. They are great for "freshening" up to their full or close to full voltage. I use a ton of batteries between trail cams, flashlights. callers, etc. They need to be monitored so they don't overcharge because once they reach a certain point they will begin to discharge. I check them with a volt meter a couple of times while charging. If they drop below 1.4 volts I usually toss them because they won't come back. After a long calling session or heavy use of a flashlight I just put them in the chargers (I have two) and they are ready to go in a few hours. It is not uncommon to get three or four uses out of a set. The lithiums will charge up above their shelf voltage and some things like a gps won't run at the higher voltages. https://www.groupon.com/deals/gs-maximalpower-fc999-universal-fast-charger-for-aa-aaa-c-d-n-9v-batteries
  21. Great Video as usual.....Really surprised to see it come back for a second shot.
