Turkeys Hanging around:

Mature Does & Fawns:

It's been an interesting summer. Not in a good way but one like I have never experienced. On a positive note, this year the farmer that works my field did no till soybeans and once they came up it seemed to draw the wildlife like we have never had before. One day in July I looked out about 7:30 pm and counted 18 bucks out there at once. I began to pay more attention on a daily basis and they stared showing up every night religiously between 7:45 and 8:30. I never saw 18 together again but there have been between 4 and 11 just about every night. I set the spotting scope up on a tripod and watched them every night for about a month. The most interesting part for me is the fact that most of them were tall & wide 8 points. I have only seen a couple of spikes and small four points. At one point there were a couple of nice 10 points but I believe one got killed on the road not far away. The other ironic event was three hen turkeys hung out there all summer with about 6 poults and are still here. The hens would form a circle around them and kept the poults in the middle for quite some time. I got to witness the first time they flew up to roost and when they came down the next day. One of the hens flew up first, then the poults flew up one at a time while the other two hens stayed on the ground until they were all up. The next morning one hen flew down, then the poults, and then the other two hens. Believe it or not; I also got to see the deer interact with the turkeys on a couple of occasions and actually witnessed what looked like the deer were playing tag with the turkeys. There were many evenings they were browsing within feet of each other. I have lived here 25 years and have never seen the population of deer I have seen this year. I don't know if it is the soybeans or what but they have really been a draw for sure. I finally put a couple of trail cams out in hopes of getting pictures of the bigger bucks but they have been dodging the cameras on a regular basis even when I move them to different locations. Based on the cameras and lack of sightings the last few days all indications are they are beginning to disperse and move at night. Last night I shined the field and counted 14 deer in the field bedded down about 9:30 pm I've seen more mature doe than usual and only a few fawns. With so much going on it has been the highlight of my summer along with Nomad picking up (and delivering) some primers when none were to be had just about anywhere. Hell of a guy!!! Historically this property has not produced in years past so I will probably be hunting state land a lot more this year. I lost access to the adjoining 60 acres I have enjoyed for the last 20 years due to the owner(s) dying and disputes in the family. It was my best spot to trap fox and coyotes plus I had it all to myself during trapping. I will continue to trap my own property but it won't be the same and it was a great place to bow hunt along with being very convenient. I can only hope one of these guys shows up when I am in my stand and not when I am hunting state land.

I promised to view our new Governor with a open mind but it didn't take her long to disappoint me. First she picks the Lieutenant Governor from New York City and now she bans the sales of combustion engines. New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation on Wednesday that effectively bans the sale of new internal combustion engine cars, off-road vehicles, light-duty trucks and equipment by 2035. Monroe County executive Adam Bello announced yesterday that Monroe county will be accepting at least another 200 Afghan refugees and has designated that the Monroe County Veterans Service Agency will be offering benefits to these refugees. “I’ve directed the Monroe County veteran’s service agency to offer benefits to these refugees which include access to mental health programs, employment resources and connecting them with a law office which is helping provide legal assistance,” Bello said. I hope anyone in Monroe county or anyone interested will voice their opposition to the decision to divert resources from Veteran services for any reason other than their intended purpose. 110 County Office Building39 W. Just got back from the convention this afternoon. Picked up a bunch of supplies while I was there so I don't have to order them. They have a pretty good line up of Demonstrations scheduled for Friday & Sat if anyone is interested. There are also a good number of tailgaters. The State Fiscal Year 2021-22 Budget signed by Governor Cuomo included legislation that now allows youths ages 12 and 13 to hunt deer with a firearm or crossbow under the supervision of an experienced adult hunter in upstate counties that opt in to participate. Responding to this new opportunity for young hunters and their families, several counties have already passed laws to opt in. The new opportunity is temporary, because the law sunsets in 2023. It specifically includes the following provisions: Allows 12- and 13-year-old licensed hunters to hunt deer with a rifle, shotgun, or muzzleloading firearm in areas such firearms may be used during hunting seasons, including the youth big game hunting weekend; Allows 12- and 13-year-old licensed hunters to hunt deer with a crossbow during the times when other hunters may use crossbows; Requires supervision of an experienced and licensed adult hunter who maintains physical control over the youth hunter at all times; and Requires the youth hunter and adult mentor to wear fluorescent orange or pink clothing and to remain at ground level while hunting deer with a crossbow, rifle, shotgun, or muzzleloader.

Yep... Planers off each side and lead line off the back. Most were caught in about 25-30 feet of water.

Not exactly live but we had a great day yesterday on Oneida lake. It was actually cool on the water and overcast. Three person limit in about 4 1/2 hrs. We all had fun; especially my daughter who hasn't fished in quite some time.

No need to get your panties in a bunch. You had to look close to see it was two different pictures. It was a honest mistake >Lighten up. -

Was not aware they removed the one bird per day restriction. -
Right now in NY you can stay home and collect up to $800 a week. Mon, May 10, 2021, Joe Biden President Biden on Monday claimed that generous unemployment benefits are not incentivizing people to remain out-of-work, arguing that Americans would return to the workforce for a “decent wage,” but nevertheless said that the administration would take action to push would-be workers to accept job offers instead of staying home. “People will come back to work if they’re paid a decent wage,” Biden said in an address on the economy at the White House. “My expectation is that, as our economy comes back, these companies will provide fair wages and safe work environments. And if they do, they’ll find plenty of workers.”

Didn't know you could do that. Usually the first loan is paid off and a new loan started. Better check for fine print and hidden fees.

I do the same thing on the state land that I hunt. Really fry's me that people continue to be so reckless and can't have the common decency to pick up their own messes. Seems to be the way of the world today just like throwing empty McDonalds bags, etc. out the window along the roads. Hate it every time I see it.

I already voiced my concerns with them a few months ago. Obviously they will do what they want as long as they can muster up the votes. They could care less what the voters think. They are doing what is "right" for the people

Great Video...To bad a lot of those bucks tend to only move at night like they do around here. Makes it tough to hunt them but nice to know they are there.

Looks like what is known as a Treeing Walker, a Trigg hound, or running Walker/Foxhound. They all come in many different color configurations and are used for a wide variety of game. Legs are pretty short for a calf and it appears to have it's nose on the ground like a hound would.

The way the seasons are right now I can understand how they would feel that way. As it is now a lot of gun hunters are mad because some of the real nice bucks are taken during bow. Just because they choose to gun hunt instead of bow for whatever reason they should not be denied the opportunity to shoot a nice buck. On the other hand If I was trying to get in bow range of a nice buck and someone shot it with a rifle 100 yds. away I would be irritated to. No "easy" solution.
