I agree it's too hot but tomo is nj early season bow n we'll be out. It does stink

Growalot has anyone Youve known gotten sick? My uncle used to raise hogs 30 years ago n no one ever did. Not saying it can't happen just curious. Seems like something so small odds wise especially if properly prepared it's not worth worrying about. Many pick mushrooms too n the wrong one can kill us

Many things go into how a broadhead flies or penetrates. Weight is one. Arrows flying straight another, the amount of blades n type n of course where you hit them
-
The trichinosis threat is real just as in older time pork, tularemia in rabbits. Salmonella in eggs, chicken or other diseases but don't overkill it n don't stress over bear meat. I skinned for 2 bear camps, hunted bears all over n never once even heard of anyone getting sick

Guys being limited in cooking experience of it doesn't appear it may give best options. Imo grill it w either accent food seasoning on chops or the same (grill) n brush butter n Worcestershire on it. Top w green pepper at end it's fantastic. You gotta grill it to get some excess fat off imo. Spring bears fresh from hibernation can taste dif but never ever pass a fall bear. Best meat you've ever had.

Rob it's pretty impossible to make the meat stringy, least I know not how. I've eaten all types n yes the young ones may taste slightly better n it also depends how they were harvested. Running em w dogs you can taste the adrenaline.

Grampy look into NASP archery. Stands for national archery in the schools program. Training/certification for teachers is free. More kids shoot Nasp than play little league baseball so they say by the numbers. It's already been tested in courts as to being a sport w with instructors so that's out of the way. Contact the state Fish n game they should have coordinator in charge of setting it up
-
Core it's the best meat you ever had. Comments like the one bout hearing how awful they are is the reason folks won't try. They've all heard it's bad or had a bad experience but weren't exactly sure how to cook it. Not knocking you. Shoot one, take care of it promptly, try it n than decide

Moog gave good advice. Id prob not want anyone fleshing or turning anything. Best bet is to do as he said than freeze it asap. Barring no alternative someone should know how though. Salting prematurely can lead to difficulties in other areas such as fleshing, splitting etc

Your post made no sense? Least I'm not getting it

Spring turkey may be the funnest time of year for her. Weather is pleasant n the birds talk to you. What more do you need. High anxiety hunt, lots of fun

You're gonna get a million answers here but here's my 2 cents. Rage is a problematic head. The blades fall out n hang down though they do work well when they hit closed. Wasp jackhammers are almost or should I say I've never heard of a single prob if you want mechanical., muzzy makes a great head that flies super accurate, for a long time I used thunderheads like most guys n some still do. All great heads but be aware the rage need special quivers or modifications very often to see them work. I've used one package n was warned but unless things have changed Id personally not purchase them. If I gotta do tricks they just ain't worth it. They market well n you may chose what you like. Good luck
-
Yes I've actually only seen does on em
-
I see your point. I've never been forced to limited acreage n have always waited em out. If that's what you have to do good luck. Something we've noticed is commonly the smaller garbage can sized scrapes get molded into one giant n that's normally a banger doing that. Not for sure if they initially set smaller scrapes or just took em over. If they took em over you have a point I'll however still rely on finding those spots.
-
I've actually seen scrapes in late summer n shot a buck on one many years ago opening day, in over 35 years though I've seen each once. Did find the first rubs this weekend though. What part of state are you hunting? Maybe less pressure. I hunt large areas of little hunting but they're still suspicious
-
Imo think of deer hunting like water fowl or turkey. You wanna be where the deer wanna be, same w birds. A perfect set is no good if the game isn't coming to the area. Now that being said Id never personally set up a scrape but hunt over one they opened. I'm very low key in my approach n never leave reason for suspicion. It's just the way I do it not the only way but Id wait for em to tell you where to go

To pick things apart more which I didn't want to a liver shot isn't the best shot. I've seen em take 2 hours to expire when hit there. And a lung is 50/50 whether they even die, least while the season is open. Maybe the two combined is more deadly but only one or the other is certainly not. Not picking apart your post or words just another way to look at it n Id never advise quartering away to wind up in back of shoulder far side
-
Well than I'll disagree w ya. Gotta give them something to visualize but to each his own. Yes a shoulder is hard to penetrate but a far shoulder shot is a very dead very recoverable deer very often ping ponging into trees n falling in sight. If not the blood trail can be harder to follow but maybe new hunters should never ever take the quartering away shot n only shoot broadside? Id bet way more deer are lost to "I hit em great, right behind the shoulder" quartering away shots that pass in front of the vitals than ones not recovered that hit the far shoulder. Perfect shots, blood traiks etc are great. World isn't always perfect, especially early on when folks don't understand anatomy
-
Buck master I think we say it more as a point of reference for newbies. It's better not to hit any shoulder but quartering away can easily miss vitals or hit only one lung if the behind the close shoulder shot taken. We can hash n rehash where to shoot but most guys seem to get it n hopefully the op is
-
Maybe gun shot but not bow shot. Again it's all about angles n the weapon used
-
I would agree w you on this one but broadside or quartering away the far shoulder is a good mark. It's all bout angles
-
Very nice! I used t111 to give a rustic look. Your shop looks clean n professional. Same for your work. Best of luck!

Come to northern NJ. If you fall asleep on stand n fall out you'll prob land on one. Exaggeration of course but they're a nuisance Theres so many. Some guys or should I say girls won't stay in til dark because of em
