Do gun laws make us safe?
Rattler replied to NFA-ADK's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Gun laws are instituted to do only one thing. Control gun owners. They don't do a thing to prevent, or even lower crime. In fact, it can be proven they INCREASE crime, since the cities with the strictest gun laws have the most crime. It has also been statistically proven by John Lott PhD, in his book "More Guns, Less Crime". One can also look at other countries where guns have been banned and see the rise in crime since the bans were put in place. As far as police quitting because they are being penalized worse than the perps, who are you going to look to for protection when you dial 911 and they don't show up? Or do you think you could do a better job, especially since you won't wear a bullet proof vest or sit behind bullet proof glass? Anyone who tries to kill another human being by running them down with a speeding vehicle is a menace to society and should be killed right then and there. Due process is served immediately by preventing a murder. Would you allow someone to shoot an innocent before arresting them so they can have due process? I remember a Dirty Harry movie where some hack was criticizing his shooting a "suspected" rapist in the park. How did he know he was going to commit rape? "When I see a naked man with a butcher knife and a hard on chasing a woman, I shoot the S.O.B.", was the answer. Due process sometimes has to be done by the cop. -
The Redfield Revolution offers a ranging reticle too. I have this scope on one of my rifles and it makes a great long range hunting scope. Price is very good and it is made by Leupold. Plus it comes with the lifetime guarantee.

For all those who think the NRA is influenced by big money donors, it's the anti-gun crowd that takes big money. The NRA is truly an American grass roots organization who's only goal is the protection of all Constitutional rights. Being against the NRA is tantamont to being against ALL of your rights! https://www.nraila.org/articles/20160805/lavish-gun-control-contributions-further-undermine-anti-gun-narrative

This is the only quote anyone needs to heed about Hillary. -

They're just opinions. They're like anal orifices. Everyone has one, and they all think the other guy's stinks. These quotes also come from people who seem to have a lot to hide and do not want Trump shining a light on their scams. -
Trump campaign in turmoil
Rattler replied to diplomat019's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
None of Trumps comments come close to criminal activity. None of the media's attacks on Trump claim any criminal activity. Yet Hillary has had plenty of criminal activity for the media to report on and they don't. It's nothing more then propaganda and misdirection, which the Democrat base always buys. -
Searching for dirt on Trump

They have always overlooked Obama's crimes. Upright: "There is a statute that prohibits us from engaging in Iran dealing with dollars, so [Obama] had to print the money here, ship it over to Switzerland, turn it into Swiss francs and euros, and ship it over to Iran. If a private company had done this, it is called money laundering. The CEO would be in jail right now." —Charles Krauthammer -
Yeah, they call it the .300 Norma Mag
-
Sounds like a .358 necked down to .30 caliber. Not sure what advantages that would offer.
-
BTW, is it the 350 Rem Mag that you are going to convert? If it has a 1 in 12" twist, that seems to be preferred for this .350 WSM.
-
Found this article for you. Turns out 2800 from a 20" barrel is doable with the 225 grain bullet. http://www.35cal.com/ruger77_350wsm.html
-
Is that 2800 number from a 18" or 20" barrel though? I'm sure it would be faster than the other two you mention, but I have trouble believing it could go 2800 fps.
-
I have a .325 WSM that is built for Elk hunting. I do not believe it gets more than 2900 fps at the muzzle of a 24" barrel when I use a 200 grain bullet in it, so I think your velocity estimates are very hopeful for a .350 WSM using a 225 grain bullet from a shorter barrel. "The 180 grain BST bullet has a catalog muzzle velocity (MV) of 3060 fps and muzzle energy (ME) of 3743 ft. lbs. The 200 grain Accu-Bond bullet has a catalog MV of 2950 fps and ME of 3866 ft. lbs. The 220 grain Power Point bullet has a claimed MV of 2840 fps and ME of 3941 ft. lbs. These Winchester velocity figures are averages taken from a 24" test barrel." It might make a very nice deer rifle in a unique chambering, but I doubt it would be worth the constant hand loading effort and initial expense, if you compare ballistics to a .35 Whelen or other rounds like the .358 Win. In the end you may find the velocity you are getting is less than both of these. Maybe you'd be better off just going to a .325 WSM?

Correct me if I'm wrong but, I see the "science" saying it has an affect IF it is consumed by raptors, IF they eat a POSSIBLY contaminated gut pile, POSSIBLY left in the woods by a hunter. The only actual dead raptors found that can be traced to the source of their toxins show a deer processor was the source. Obviously a large amount of deer gut piles in an open dumpster would attract raptors and probably have a high concentration of lead from bullets in it. I didn't see any CONCLUSIVE evidence of any dead raptor being traced to the source of a hunter's gut pile. I see leaps of presumption in that direction based on speculation. I'm not saying any raptor hasn't died from a hunter's gut pile. I'm saying there is no proof as of this date as far as I can see. Therefore I am against putting the burden of the bulk of the problem on the backs of hunters when regulating the processors is more effective and simpler. The same thing can be said about proof that a hunter's consumed venison was PROBABLY contaminated if it was killed with a typical copper jacketed hunting bullet. I see no "science" of anyone randomly going to a hunter's house and randomly taking a tenderloin from their freezer and testing it to see if it is contaminated. Therefore the "science" and it's conclusions remain open to question. Am I wrong here? Who can be sure this fish doesn't have lead split shot in it?

A couple had only been married for two weeks....
Rattler replied to EspressoBuzz's topic in General Chit Chat
And my reply was also a joke that some people took offense to. However I really do think you do give up your manhood when you get married, at least in this country. Legally you have surrendered all of your rights when you got married in America, and believe me your wife knows it (and I believe you do too). I wish you all good luck, and remember, "never" is a very looooong time. And Dip, it's a statistical fact married men indulge in that activity far more often than active single men do. -

Lots of males get married. I never will. -

Exactly the reason no MAN will ever get married. No MAN would ever allow that type of dictatorship in his life. Plus, a woman competes with solitude. Variety is more enjoyable and less expensive. Child support is far less expensive than adding divorce and alimony to the mix. Ex-wives are the #1 reason for restraining orders and firearms confiscation. Lastly, it has been said, no man really knows what happiness is until marriage...........but by then, it's too late. (I was never able to compromise anyway)
