  1. I've been jumped by a deer, but never attacked.
  2. I see plenty of deer while driving. Just no deer when I'm in the woods
  3. You call it still hunting. I call it crunching leaves. Which I'm great at crunching leaves.
  4. State park land. The area is pushed hard early in the season. Now, there should only be a few cars there, if any at all.
  5. I'm doing the last 2 days of rifle, then I'm done. If this year doesn't pan out, I may become an opening weekend hunter. The weather killed me this year. The time & effort, not to mention money. It's crazy. I'm disappointed because I didn't see anything in the woods. I really thought opening weekend would be successful with the rut, and snow on the ground. I would have bet money on opening weekend being successful.
  6. I haven't seen much of anything this season. Very few tracks in the snow.
  7. I wear orange, vest & hat. Orange can be spotted from 500 yards away. It just stands out like a sore thumb. The only problem with orange, is it may draw attention from another hunter, who might shoot at any movement. The orange is going to catch his eye before anything else. And if he's a loose canon, it's a problem. I saw an orange hat moving through mountain laurel on opening day. It just stands out. Even in the thick stuff. I took off my orange hat, and started waving with the hat, so he knew I was there.
  8. How about all the guys that shoot at 1st light, or just after official sunset. Not legal, and not ethical, but I hear the shots every opening weekend.
  9. I put all my hunting clothes by the exhaust pipe of the car. I thoroughly gas them with exhaust. This way the deer are drawn to me like they are drawn to a highway during the rut. Deer have no fear of cars, exhaust fumes, etc, etc.
  10. They are all over Watkins Glen / Seneca area. We saw 4 of them by the race track. My friend thought it was a goat !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. what do they do with an untagged deer ? No butcher will take them.
  12. How do the wildlife survive the 5 feet of snow ?? Even the little rabbits, or field mice..... What do the birds of prey eat when the snow is so deep ?
  13. I was on state land, and I saw a guy shoot 2 does when I was walking out. It was 4:45, 15 minutes past legal sundown. Pretty much dark outside. He was field dressing in the dark. Would you call that poaching ??? Certainly not legal. I had a chance to poach a big buck opening day 5am. Way before legal shooting time. His nose was to the ground. He couldn't care less if I was there. But if I did take him, I could never hang him on my wall. I could never eat the meat, because it would be a constant reminder that I poached.
  14. Speak for yourself. I have never injured a deer, because I won't take the shot unless everything is perfect. I'd rather let him walk away, than chase a deer 2 miles.
  15. I shot a lone doe. Turned out to be a spike. little 2" spikes. So legally it was a doe, but I was like..... oppsssssssss. I mounted it anyway
  16. They teach you shot selection in hunters education. I remember them saying NO HEAD SHOTS, NO BUTT SHOTS. It's even on the test. How the hell did you guys pass the test, and still take butt shots ???????????????
  17. Is the moron in jail ?? or back out in the woods? Will the victim loose his hand & 1/2 his ass ??
  18. Then you shoot 1/2 of them, and the pecking order changes immediately.
  19. I thought for sure with the cold, snow, rut, I would see deer in the woods. All I saw were deer driving up & driving home. Not 1 deer in the woods. And I froze my a$$ off. I might go back out this weekend. Maybe.
  20. As they say: " I'm wrong, your right, your dead "
  21. How about the little fawns? Do they succumb to the deep snow ??
  22. There was just a thread on here about all the dead deer shot with a .243. And they don't run either. Someone uses 85 gr, and had some nice big bucks.
  23. The guy who killed his hunting partner last year, got off without jail time. So therefore, I hunt alone. George Thorogood Song: I HUNT ALONE, yeah / With nobody else / I hunt alone, yeah / With nobody else / You know when I hunt alone / I come out alive. Every morning just before breakfast, I don't want no coffee or tea Just me and good buddy Remington, That's all I ever need, 'Cause I hunt alone, yeah, With nobody else, Yeah, you know when I hunt alone, I prefer to be by myself.
