Just planned my vacation for this year I'm taking first and second week of November off and then third week only working two days. Never had this much time off to hunt before so i'm pretty excited. First week of November i will be going to Ohio to hunt Wayne National Forest land with my brother and friend. We rented a site at a campground and will be bring a camper out there to sleep in at night. Second week i will be back upstate and i hope the rut will still be going good and i can get into some of my better spots and try to score on a good NY buck. Anybody else have any vacation plans for the upcoming season? John

funny i took the same picture today from a white oak outside my house lol. They are dropping normally on trees by me always have some drop early then by middle of next month they will start dropping like crazy.

If deer stay on the same pattern in my area i will be hunting mornings. All of my best trailcam pics are in the mornings anywhere from 6-11:00am. I know things will change by the opener but my stand is in an area loaded with white oaks that seem to be dropping real good. The deer come in there to bed and seem to be up and moving around in there all morning snacking on acorns. Man i cant wait for Oct 1st!! John

Thanks again for all the input guys. i ordered a scent dripper and active scrape and i am going to try that out but i might order some preorbital scent also for the over hanging branch. John

So many bears around where i hunt in 4s its unreal. My buddy got 9 different bears on his trailcam this summer. Looks like a real young bear so im sure his mother is around close by somewhere. John

A guy i know swears by peeing in a scrape. He says he programs the deer to hunt him lol. John

How early in the year do you guys start putting out mock scrapes?? Im going to experiment with a scent dripper this year and was thinking about starting one in mid sept. i have seen a few summer scrapes on my hunting property this year so i dont think starting one in mid sept with some active scrape will be too early. Any thoughts are appreciated. I will also hang a cam over it and share my results. John

Yea i wouldnt dream about scouting in there now. I do all of my scouting in the winter on the island. I learned my lesson with them chiggers lol. John

Rich at Sarnoff you do not need to check in until the shotgun season starts in January. As long as you have the access permits you dont need to checkin with your bow at Sarnoff like you do at rocky point or otis pike. John

I have a hunter safety system vest for sale. Its a lg and in good working condition. It will come with 2 tree straps and drag/suspension line and . One of the metal zippers broke on the pocket but besides that its in great condition. Price is $55tyd through paypal. Broken zipper. It still works but tab broke off. John

To hunt Sarnoff you do need the seasonal access permit for both the car window and your pocket. There is no check in for bow season so you can park in any open numbered spot and hunt anywhere within the boundaries of the state land on the side of the road you are parked on. Once gun season starts you need to reserve a spot at the checkstation for the day you want to hunt. Most spots out there are one car spots but some of them allow two cars per spot. Good luck out there its tough hunting but there are some good bucks to be had. John
