  1. I've got all my stands ready to go and i will be taking off on Oct 1st. As for my bow don't even ask. 2 weeks ago i noticed that the cable on my old bow was starting to Frey. This is the 3rd time this has happend to me in the last 3 years and the bow was about 5 years old so i decided to get a new bow instead of fixing my old one. I bought the pse evo and put my sight and rest on and brought it to my bowshop to have them set the nockheight and install nock points since i shoot off the string with my release. i don't have the time to sight it in being that my work schedule is crazy right now but that shouldn't be a problem since i have Sat and Sunday before the season opens to sight it in and practice from the stand. Then last night i was making sure everything was tight and ready to go with the bow and i went to pull it back and my arrows keep falling off the string when i am at full draw. I will be bringing it back into the bow shop tomorrow after work so he can install a dloop and i will also be purchasing a new release that is easier to use with the loop than the one i currently have. I was very upset last night when i noticed this happening but i talked to the guy in my bowshop today and he said it wont be a problem and he will get the bow setup for me before next weekend so i will have to do is sight in my 30 and 40 yard pin and i will be good to go. Not what i wanted to happen two weeks before the season started considering i was all ready to go with the old bow and have been shooting all summer. John
  2. I took off from oct 30th-nov17th . Cant wait to spend two full weeks in the woods this year!! Hunting ohio for first week of nov and upstate for the second week. John
  3. I use saywers and it works great for ticks but not so great for chiggers. Once you get into an area with them and they get on you youre done!!! Usually in the high grass. John
  4. Same here got chigger bites all over my feet and ankles from the island and then went upstate and got 5 bee stings from ground hornets and poison ivy. Talk about bad luck!!!!!
  5. I just purchased a 2011 Dream season Evo. My current bow is about 5 years old and i have had numerous problems with it and it was not worth fixing at this point so i decided to upgrade. Anybody have the Evo? I got the 50-60lb model and i plan on setting it at 55lbs because my shoulder is all screwed up and i cant pull the heavier poundage anymore. Any input from somebody who has shot or has this bow would be greatly appreciated. Im figuring it should be plenty fast at 55lbs since it is considered a speed bow. John
  6. I agree that hunting shows are very unrealistic for us hunting in the northeast. I watch them for entertainment purposes only and because i'm a hunting fanatic and that's all i think about. But you have to remember something. Most people say i would love to see these guys come to where i hunt and shoot a 180" deer but if a 180" deer doesn't exist where you hunt it it would be impossible for them to shoot one. The thing is i know a lot of guys that let these shows get to their heads and only want to shoot 150s or bigger in NY. I have no problems with that but they might go a few seasons or a lifetime before it actually happens in some areas in NY. I use trail-cams to help me decide what i am going to try to shoot in the fall. i have numerous cams out all summer and if the biggest buck i get is only a 100" deer im not going to sit in my stand all season waiting for a 150" to come by and pass up the 100" if he presents a shot. John
  7. Great videos!!! I know it takes a lot of time and effort to put these videos together and i give you credit for that. I hope to see some more from you in the future. John
  8. Great pics wooly. Looks like you will be picking up some great antlers come shed season!!!! Oh and good luck taking one of them big boys down come fall. John
  9. That is a drag line. It attached to your foot or ankle and has a rope with a few feet on it. At the end of the rope is a scent wick that drags behind you while your walking leaving a trail of scent to your stand. I actually had luck with a drag line twice where bucks came right down my trail following it right to the base of my tree. John
  10. I used it all season last year and i think it works great at breaking up your outline both in the stand and on the ground. I would def recommend it to anybody who is looking for some new camo. John
  11. I agree with you. but its definitely putting in time in the right spots!! John
  12. You can tell its a bear by looking at the ears. John
  13. Def looks like a small bear to me. Greene county is loaded with bears. John
  14. I used some last year over a fresh scrape i found. i found the scrape in the afternoon and hung a scent wick over it with the scent below. the next morning i got a pic of the buck below smelling it while i was hunting in a different spot so i guess it works. The scent i was using was very strong and ill def be buying another bottle this year. http://www.cabelas.com/scents-scent-eliminators-james-valley-scents-lethal-weapon-gel-2.shtml

  16. here are the latest pics from my trail cam on some state land in NY. I just hung a stand over the main trail they are using this weekend so hopefully they will stick around for the next few weeks and give me a shot come Oct 1st. Nice 10 Point Non Typical Buck smaller 8 points John

  18. I'm glad you are already seeing great results with the mock scrapes. I'm going to start a few this weekend and hang some cams over them to see what kind of action i get. Great pics and videos!! John

  20. Was out in one of the parks where there is no hunting.
  21. While hiking today with my girlfriend i spotted this real nice buck eating about 30 yards right off the trail. I can't hunt this spot but i do shed hunt it and hope to pickup his sheds this winter. He was also with a 10 point about the same size but i couldn't get any pics of him. John
  22. Awesome Buck for NY or any other state!!! Good Luck getting him down this fall.. John
  23. Ive been reading nothing but good things about fitzgeralds deer dander so i picked up a bottle And will try it out this season. Its more of a cover scent but it seems to bring a lot of deer in following your trail if you spray it on your boots before you walk into your stand. You can get it at cabelas and ill post a link so you can read reviews. http://m.cabelas.com/cabelas/review/reviewList.do?productName=false&itemId=745487&categoryId=
