I finally got up to check my cams again. Out of the 5 cams i had out two of them were malfunctioning and they both were wildgame cameras. I will never buy another one of those ever again. its to the point where i don't even want to call them and have them send me a new one because they have been so unreliable in the field. Here are some of the better pics i had in the past 3 weeks. Hopefully some of these bucks stick around until the opener. I did notice a lot of white oaks are dropping acorns already and moved my cams to these areas to try and get some better pictures. John

Great looking Plots Split. I hope you have some luck harvesting a nice buck over there this year!!! John -
Checked my cams this weekend after being out for 3 weeks. i didnt get any pics of the big split browtine buck that was passing by in june. I dont know what happened to him hopefully he is still around somewhere. here are some of the better pics. This bear has ripped my camera down 2 times now. I put it up hoping to get some good pics left it out for 3 weeks only to get back to it and found out he ripped it off the tree 2 days after i put it up . I did get a cool pic of a squirrel after while it was hanging off the tree lol. 3 of my cams i moved to new locations and will be checking them again in 3 weeks when i can get back up there. Trying to keep the cams moving this year to try and find some of the bigger bucks in my area and start patterning them for Oct 1st. John

I can leagally take 4 bucks in New York every year. I can take one upstate with bow one upstate with gun. Then if i get 2 1c doe permits (long island) which are guaranteed i can shoot two does and get two more either sex tags for 1c long island. John

The Expanded Antler Restrictions - Who is excited?
mbucks27 replied to TheHunter's topic in Deer Hunting
Just a question for everybody on this thread. How would everybody feel if they got rid of the AR's and went to a 1 buck rule for the entire state? I would much rather see the 1 buck rule go into effect than have AR's. John -
This one seems to get good reviews and isnt too bad on the price either. http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-2012-Moultrie-M-80x-blx-Black-No-Glo-Flash-5-0-MP-Infrared-IR-Game-Camera-/221064396041?_trksid=p3284.m263&_trkparms=algo%3DSIC%26its%3DI%26itu%3DUCI%252BIA%252BUA%252BFICS%252BUFI%26otn%3D21%26pmod%3D150785608159%26ps%3D54#ht_3132wt_1163 John

Sportsmen Strongly Support DEC adoption of Yearling Buck Protection
mbucks27 replied to TheHunter's topic in Deer Hunting
I agree with you 100% Everybody has their own opinion and it seems like on this site and every other hunting site out there that if you don't agree with what somebody else does or thinks then you are wrong or a bad hunter. Cant we all just get along????????? I normally don't partake in any thread where there are guys fighting with each other. This subject has really gotten out of hand and the bottom line is there are people who agree with AR's and there are people who don't. That's always the way it is going to be and doesn't make a person right or wrong based on which side they are on. John -
I usually leave mine out for 2-3 weeks and then check them. If nothing good is showing up in that period of time ill move them around a bit to try and locate where the bigger bucks are hanging out. I'm going up tomorrow to check cams and i hope to have some good pics. Have 5 of them out right now. I will def be moving two of them to some local watering holes this weekend with the hot dry weather we have been having.

The Expanded Antler Restrictions - Who is excited?
mbucks27 replied to TheHunter's topic in Deer Hunting
Its funny how when it comes to AR's people can just go on and on and on . I really don't see how there is a right or wrong on this subject. Everybody is going to have their own perspective on subject and that doesn't mean that a person who doesn't agree with how you feel is "Right or Wrong". In the new units AR units i know a lot of people that hunt both locals and non locals and just about everybody i talk to is in favor of antler restrictions in these units because of the very low buck sightings of bucks with at least 8 points or more. Also i really don't believe that its because of antler restrictions that we are losing hunters. Hunter numbers have been declining for a long time now because all most kids/teenagers would like to do is sit home and play video games/watch TV. Most kids figure why go out and sit in the cold and bad weather and go hunting when they can just play it on their Xbox in the comfort of their own home. As for you Steve i don't claim that any of the bucks shot by the neighboring farms that i hunt are "My Bucks". Its just very frustrating when you hunt in an area like i hunt that is mostly big fields with small patches of woods/brushlots mixed in where come opening day of gun season the deer truly have no place to hide because of the amount of hunters in the woods and end up getting shot as 1.5 year old deer. I don't knock anybody for shooting a smaller deer and i believe that a hunter should shoot whatever makes them happy BUT in the units where AR's are now mandatory there has been a very strong push for it by hunters both local and non-local and the number or hunters that want it outweigh the number of hunters that don't want it or else the law wouldnt have been changed. By the way for all the meat hunters out there in 2 years in these areas when you start seeing bigger deer there will also be a lot more meat on them as well . John -
Great Pics!!! Looks like you should have some awesome bucks to chase come fall.. I cant wait to get up to my place this weekend. I have 5 cams that have all been out for 3 weeks. John

The Expanded Antler Restrictions - Who is excited?

WNY that is true but it still helps a majority of the deer in these areas get to at least 2.5 or older. John -
The Expanded Antler Restrictions - Who is excited?
mbucks27 replied to TheHunter's topic in Deer Hunting
I'm very excited to see this happen. We have been trying to only shoot bucks with 8 points or better on the farm that i hunt for a few years now but it wasn't working b/c the farm right down the road boards hunters and shoots any legal buck they see. All bow season long we would pass up spikes-six point bucks and then come opening day they would be hanging down the road. Now they will be able to survive and make it though the brutal NY gun season. Now if New York state added a one buck rule we would really be in great shape!!! John -
I am very glad to hear that antler restrictions passed for the areas i hunt this year!!! Maybe now we can finally get some decent looking bucks instead of them all getting shot as spikes and 4 pointers. Mandatory Antler Restrictions in More WMUs Hunters in WMUs 3A, 4G, 4O, 4P, 4R, 4S, and 4W are now prohibited from taking a buck during any season (bow, regular, and muzzleloader) unless it has at least one antler with 3 or more points. Youth hunters (ages 12-16) are exempt from the 3 point restriction. See Antler Restrictions in New York for more information. John
