  1. Cool I hunted all day today. I saw 4 this morning and nothing in the afternoon. I'm officially done gonna just rest tomorrow. I did see a piebald this morning. It was a spike and came right under my stand. Never saw one before and it was a good way to end my season.
  2. Shot a shed buck today. It had a broken leg and hip and could barely walk. Got hit by a car also saw a ton of does at least I know where to look for some sheds now. He is already at the butcher. Back.out on stand now.
  3. I will take a doe or two in then last few days. Don't want to spook the buck who has been traveling with them so I haven't shot one yet. Vince if you are gonna hunt monday morning I know where you should be able to get a doe or two.
  4. Been hunting the island all week saw 3 nice bucks so far and a lot of does. Almost had a nice high palmated 8 this morning but he came in with 4 does and one of the does spotted me so i couldn't draw. Sat this spot 3 mornings and have seen bucks come down the same trail every morning. Got down today and found a great tree for the morning for the planned wind. Just washed all my gear and I am really excited about the morning. If they come down the same trail in the morning I should have a 17 yard shot. Good luck to everybody still hunting!! John
  5. Happy birthday wooly!! Hope you found some sheds today..
  6. Good luck!! I decided not to go out today because of rain. Hunted all day Sat and Sunday and I saw a lot of does but no bucks. There was a 140" 10 spotted in the area I hunt Sat afternoon so I know there is at least one big one still around. I'll be back out tomorrow morn. Hopefully the cold front will have them moving. John
  7. I have hunted that spot a lot over the years for deer. Always see a lit of deer in there but never anything big small 8s and small does. I'll be out tomorrow but not there but close by. Good luck next time out. I would think spot 2 by Rocky point would be food for small game John
  8. You see any live deer in there the piece on 25a John
  9. Lol 34 years old Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
  10. I'll.never have enough go straight from bow hunting to shed hunting to turkey hunting. Then I take the summer off and start all over again in Oct. John
  11. You are absolutely right Doewhacker. Hunters down here are fighting to get the snipers called off and starting to realized that they need to shoot more Deer (Does, Fawns, Bucks) me being one of them. There is a big deer problem down here on the island and many hunters choose to wait for a mature buck and pass on many does and fawns which is why the numbers are growing so rapidly. I don't think the OP did anything wrong by posting that pic even though he made a comment that offended some people this site. The site he posted it on there are a lot of guys who are all friends and it was really considered a joke among friends. I agree that pics of bloodied deer can make hunters look bad but think about what you are doing you are shooting a deer with an arrow or bullet. There is going to be blood that is the fact of it. Some people choose to hide it and some people don't but its still there. i try to hide it the best i can but that's just me. It really makes me sick thinking that snipers are going to come in and "try" to take down 3000 deer in Feb. They say they are only going to target does but how do they know then when bucks have no antlers then? There are going to be a ton of bucks shot during the cull. John
  12. I work in a school so after Friday i am off until Thursday Jan 2nd. I hunt hard every year for that last week and a half and have seen some of the biggest bucks i have ever seen during that time. Two of them were chasing does hard. My advice would be if you are going to be hunting for the week and a half take the first day and hit as many spots as you can and scout them out and try to find where the deer are hanging around. A lot of spots will be dead due to pressure from guys being in there all season but some spots will still have plenty of deer but you just have to find where they are hiding. Then after you find a good spot hunt it hard keeping wind in mind and hope to see something good. I also have had luck using scents later in the season where bucks come in to try and find that last doe in heat. I went to dicks last night and stocked up on a ton of scent. I plan on making the ultimate scrape this weekend in an area where i know the deer are hanging out and hanging a stand over it to hunt and hope a buck comes in during daylight checking it out. Last year i laid a scent drag down to my stand and had a nice buck come right up to my tree smelling it on Dec 29th. Unfortunately he was a shed buck so i let him go. Then two days later on the last morning of the season i shot a decent 7 point at first light Good Luck!!! If you get something and need help pm me and i will me more than willing to help you if you need it. Here is the buck i shot last year on the last morning. John
  13. Thanks everyone. Out now for a few drinks then heading home to sleep form the big day. John
  14. Sorry don't have any pics from 4r I know that 2 8s and one 10 got shot. Saw a pic one one of the 8s was really heavy the other one I just heard that one of the neighbors got. The 10 I saw hanging in another neighbors driveway. Grabbed binos and confirmed that it was a perfect 10 pointer. This was all in the Cairo area
  15. LOL i was thinking about going out for a quick hunt tomorrow morning but im not sure how that would pan out. John
  16. If its the deer that i shot and i could get another shot off i would take it to end the deer suffering and get my deer. No way i would be calling the DEC and waiting around for somebody to show up to do what i can do in a matter of minutes. Just my opinion. John
  17. Thanks everybody. Honeymoon is in St Lucia. Leaving Sunday and will be back the following Sunday. We are staying at a Sandals resort. John
  18. LOL thanks guys she is good with letting me go hunting now but we will see what happens in the future. John
  19. I don't know if anybody has posted or seen this but its pretty cool. Its a wind map of the whole US which is current whenever you look at it. Really helps when deciding what stand to go to so i thought i would pass it along. http://hint.fm/wind/ John
  20. Well tomorrow is the big day for me. I Don't know why i decided to do it during hunting season but its too late to turn back now lol. No hunting for the next two weeks for me with honeymoon but ill be back at it during Christmas and New Years break from work (LI). Hope everybody has a great last few days upstate and tags out on some big ones!!! John
  21. yea these snipers can come in at night with night vision and take out a whole heard in no time with rifles. I think people feel safer when they hear that trained professionals will be doing it instead of hunters who people feel are "less safe". Maybe if people who hunted these areas took more does instead of waiting for a big buck to come by it would help out with population control a little more. i'm guilty of it too not taking enough does and only trying to take mature bucks. I hear they are planning on taking about 4000 deer out this winter. No way to tell a buck from a doe at that time when they are just worried about thinning the heard so i'm sure a lot of shed bucks will be taken in the process. It really makes me sick when i think about it. John
  22. cant wait to get out there myself wooly. I was hoping to tag out last weekend so i could spend my two weeks off during christmas and new years shed hunting but that didn't happen lol so i will continue to hunt till Dec 31st. John
  23. I've seen a few nice 8s and 2 tens taken in 4r and 4s during bow and gun. Nothing too crazy though. It was the worst year for me as far as trail cam pics in 4s. Usually get some good bucks but this year was real slow. John
  24. Good luck with the new place geno. We will miss you down here on LI!! John
  25. Get out as much as you can and walk the bedding/feeding areas covering them all by grid searching areas. I usually walk about 6 miles a day during a normal shed hunt. Also go slow and scan to your left and right slowly not just in front of you. I cant wait for shed season to start!! Here are some i have found over the last 3 years in NY. Good Luck!! Johhn
