Wedding rings seem to be theme. While bagging up old shingles last fall, I somehow lost my wedding ring. I searched the property with a metal detector, but no luck. My only hope is that it is in the 20 contractor bags filled with shingles that are sitting under the snow and waiting for me to go through them piece by piece in the spring. Ain't love grand.

I grew up on The Bowery Boys and The East Side Kids. If you like them you may want to watch Angels with Dirty Faces, a Cagney movie where a very early version of the boys appears. It also features one of the greatest movie sacrifices I've ever seen.

Bring a fly rod. Two friends did a fly fishing trip for char last year and the pics were amazing. Cape Breton was where I saw my first and largest moose. I was cycling the Cabot Trail and rounded a corner to see the enormous beast standing n the road. I slammed on the brakes and we looked at each other for a moment, then he disappeared into the woods. I was shocked at how something so big could just meld into what seemed to be a very dense woods. As to NFLD, every body of water I threw a fly in held trout including streams in downtown St Johns. Taking a trip to Slovenia and maybe Bosnia for trout this year. Bit of a dream trip.

It's like deja vu all over again. Papist, do any of your sources not involve a 90-minute video of a guy in his basement?

As nice as it is to think ourselves special, we're not. Physiologically, we all react to food and exercise in the same way.
-
What I'm saying is that the average type of exercise that most people do - 3x weekly gym or a sport - isn't going to move the needle that much when it comes to losing weight or fat. What will is a serious calorie deficit. Simplified - you want to lose weight, put the fork down.
-
Moog is correct, exercise doesn't drop pounds unless it is a long steady state endurance type like marathon training or distance cycling. Of course, exercise has many other benefits. The best diet is the one you can stick with longest and that is dependent on mindset and what fits into your lifestyle easiest. One of the biggest challenges people face is how they deal with a slip. Many people succumb to a minor temptation and then feeling guilty (or relieved) eat a whole cheesecake. A fall is a fall. Get back up. And transitioning into maintenance is hard as hell. Is "pop" an upstate thing?

Trophy on CNN @ 9 tonight. What did you think of it

So I looked into this "psychopath" comment a little more. Though the Schwartz was initially put off by Glass what he said was, "let's say he's a psychpath ... can it benefit wildlife?" Here's the interview with the filmmakers and Moore, the game warden. -

You can alter timelines with editing and certainly show things out of context. What you can't do is make someone pick up a rifle and shoot a bound croc in a swimming pool. Is he indicative of the average African hunter? Maybe. Are the slavering antis briefly seen typical? Maybe. I believe canned hunt guy was part of the group who the filmmakers met at the Vegas show who obviously agreed to be filmed. As there haven't been any lawsuits I guess they're okay with how they were portrayed. On another note, I know nothing about elephant hunting, but if this guy isn't taking the meat or the head why wouldn't he or the PH shoot it in the head until dead? -

If you read the how this came together you can see that they did little research and just lucked into Glass. Like many documentaries, you have limited resources and go where the subjects take you, so it may be a little unfair to say they didn't include certain people or type. I watched a debate last year about whether hunting conserves wildlife ( https://www.intelligencesquaredus.org/debates/hunters-conserve-wildlife ) and as I recall the majority of the audience is anti-hunting. No way around that. Sadly, I think there may be a few more of those croc shooter guys than anyone wants to admit. -

I think it's worth another 45-minute investment. -

To give Glass some credit he has done a lot of press and hasn't ducked for cover. I'm a little surprised the croc shooter hasn't been outed. -

Yes, they did a fair job with that. It would have been easy to make him out to be an idiot. That elephant scene was tough to watch. My limited understanding is that they don't die easily and I guess that confirmed it. The courtroom scene great. I would have liked an interview with the asshole shooting the crocodile, but that could have come early in the process when they were still playing observers. Will watch again this week. -

Here's a little background info on how the filmmakers found the hunter. http://beta.latimes.com/entertainment/movies/la-et-mn-trophy-hunting-documentary-20170916-story.html -

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/07/movies/trophy-review.html?referrer=google_kp&mtrref=www.google.com My guess is that if you go in with a chip-on-your-shoulder bias it will reaffirm what you believe. -

CNN produced the movie and it is, by all accounts, a fair and balanced look at the issue. I doubt they will alter the award-winning and much-discussed movie they funded. -

Zero issue with boar killing. I kill vermin rats with dogs on farms. Just struck by the Ride of the Valkyries shooting to hit. Lines are drawn everywhere. This is one of mine.

Why are invasive animals accorded less respect than game animals when it comes to shooting and killing? If I catch a bass where they are invasive and legally must be killed, I don't throw it against a tree or toss it on the bank to suffocate. I knock it with a priest it or knife it as I would a trout I'm keeping. Not sure I get with randomly shooting into a sounder of hogs in the hope that I'll wound a few. If this guy shot at a deer and missed four times before he connected somewhere, he'd be called out.

The NDP has always been the party of the left. Its first leader was Tommy Douglas who while premier of Saskatchewan instituted Canada's first universal health care program. A few years ago when a nation-wide survey was taken to name "The Greatest Canadian", Douglas won handily. I was hoping for Stompin' Tom Conners.
