  1. It was just a joke. No harm, no foul. I appreciated Elmo bringing some perspective on why Pride Day exists.
  2. Elmo brings a gun to a knife fight. Agree.
  3. I grew up with that torture device and its cousin - Used to curse my grandfather under my breath on Saturday's. To his credit, the tough old guy kept using them until his death at 89. Anyway, love my Stihl.
  4. A thread called "Escape from NY" needs more Snake Plissken. Realizing that we will probably be out of NYC in the next ten years my wife and I are actively looking, but further afield. We had narrowed it down to Nova Scotia and Merida in Mexico. But we just go back from a friend's country estate in southern Sweden and we were pretty blown away. Mostly high-end ag land with pretty little cobblestone street villages. And the most beautiful barns. Weird to say, but there was a real barn pride there and they were all immaculate. Plus Swedish women. Seems to be a lot of roe and fallow deer, and hare, pheasant and partridge shooting. I saw deer stands everywhere. This was taken on his land (can't seem to rotate it). Well known for his twisted muzzle.
  5. Peameal bacon is the business and the sandwich at the SLM is a great one. Heartbreaking what they sell as "Canadian bacon" here.
  6. I don't know, there have been a lot of great kings ...
  7. Regardless of what you think of a/the royal family, Harry served his country honourably with two deployments to Afghanistan. His grandmother served as an ambulance driver and mechanic when she was 16 during WW2. They understand service to their country.
  8. Too bad, TO strippers are as good as the butter tarts - sweet and a little sticky. This might not be your thing, but an hour or so wandering around Toronto Islands is pretty interesting. These are a quick ferry ride from St Lawrence Market and two of the islands (Wards and Algonquin) still have people living on them. The homes have always been controversial and the residents have been fighting the city and province to save their community for years. Last I heard they won. Cool place to live.
  9. LCBO. Yes to butter tarts if you have a sweet tooth.
  10. I'm from there. It's a little tough to make a suggestion as there are so many great restaurants. Really depends on what neighbourhood you want to explore. On Saturday, I would definitely hit the St Lawrence market for Montreal bagels and peameal bacon sandwiches.
  11. You can tune a piano but you can't tuna fish.
  12. To keep this going with more only semi-relevant material, a friend in Ulster County found an odd-acting raccoon in his kid's goat pen. He didn't want to shoot it and spread blood everywhere so he managed to bag and drown it. But as he wanted to be sure about possible diseases he sent it off to the local health dept. Positive for rabies. Since he had his hands in the water and the raccoon's saliva was in the water, he's off for the 17 or so rabies shots. Really surprised they haven't condensed this down to a couple of shots. Coyote vs cur dog vs wolf vs talking tuna vs rabid raccoon. Who wins?
  13. I'm hoping that with the fishing conversation would lead to the question of whether or not Charlie the Tuna could handle a coyote.
  14. Just talked to a pharmacist friend. He said, hell yes to treating and suggested I keep pills around for every time I'm bitten. He sees no downside to repeated doses.
  15. I probably will. Do you do the single does 200gm or the course of 100gm? I haven't done the 200. @GreeneHunter A single 200-mg dose of doxycycline given within 72 hours after an I. scapularis tick bite can prevent the development of Lyme disease. https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJM200107123450201
  16. Wait, Old Yeller wasn't real? How about Underdog? Could he handle a coyote?
  17. Monday night my wife pulled one out that was buried in the depths of my navel. Nearly impossible to see and while she got most of it she may have left whatever goes into the skin in. Quick search says to leave it in. Not sure I want the doxycycline. At this point, I'm getting a course every year.
  18. Some reward for saving the family. Damn, I'm getting misty.
  19. One rabid wolf = three coyotes.
  20. It's not a very good Black Mouth Cur that can't handle a coyote. Old Yeller took on a rabid wolf.
  21. @Buckmaster7600 Any tips you can share for a first timer? Im going to stick to my property.:25 acres -heavy woods on the ridge - ponds and springs on the lower property - no real fields. I can post under a tree or up in one of two ladder stands. Have a box call. No decoys yet. Thanks.
  22. Not at all. Just reminded me of my fly box in Iceland.
  23. I feel like a complete idiot. I'm at my camp and all day I've been listening to the farmer down the road start his tractor ...
