A "rant" thread would be a good idea. Mine? There’s no such thing as “sleep-away camp.” It’s a ridiculous made-up word that serves no purpose other than to dumb down the English language and as we have so few words to accurately describe things, why screw up the good ones? I’m all for fluidity of language—I really get excited when new words are added to the OED—though if you want to see my eye twitch try saying “awesome” to me when you describe how you found a parking spot in front of your building. But I hate the infantilization of language. It is double-plus ungood. We have a great word for that wilderness place where you pitch tents, build fires, roast food, tell stories and sleep overnight. That word is “camp.” Also comes with a perfectly useful verb, “camping.” No one says, “sleep-away camping” and if they do, best to excuse yourself and go stand on the other side of the room. If however, you’re not sleeping over then we have a pinpoint accurate descriptive adjective in …. wait for it … “day camp.” Camp … you sleep over. Day Camp … you don’t. That’s it. How simple. How elegant. How correct. Rant over.

Throw out the bat-shit crazy people on both sides and I think what we're left with are a lot of people in the middle.

I like to think of us as The A Team! Sure you can. Free markets, free trade, limited government, individual rights, capitalism, democracy, secularism, gender equality, racial equality, freedom of speech, freedom of the press and freedom of religion are classic liberal positions.

My guess is that there are a few more, but I'm not sure I'm that liberal unless believing that Trump is a lying stupid POS and dangerous to the country makes me a liberal. I know it's hard to understand, but one can be pro America and anti Trump.

It's not that the earth doesn't experience shifts in climate over millennia; it's that 8 billion people and counting have a decided affect on creating and accelerating micro shifts which contribute to the overall change. The earth is reaching its ceiling in carrying capacity. This is the concern and one we can mitigate. If only there was some kind of global pandemic that could knock the population down for a bit. That or we adopt a Logan's Run-like approach to population control.

I think you missed the point of what I said, but I'll clarify. I don't lean toward Biden - I support anyone but Trump. That's not a left or democratic position as much as it is an anti "dumb-f@#k" position. I am against dumb f@#ks. What I personally believe vis-à-vis abortion is irrelevant. I don't discuss it here or anywhere for that matter, and have no desire to change anyone's position. I do accept that it is the settled law of the land as decided in a 7-2 court vote where six of those seven were Republican appointees. I believe that the 2nd is a fundamental right necessary to this country but also that there's a lot of grey area between that right as written and present day gun issues, and that limitations and regulations need to be in place, both for the safety of the people and the furthering and solidification of the right. I don't believe I will lose the right to own a gun under Biden, and whether there will be any major gun legislation/limitation remains to be seen. I would guess there are as many liberal gun owners as there are conservative in this country and I doubt they will be silent. Hope that helps.

How did I get dragged into this? Wolc, don't confuse my stated opinion that Trump is an idiot, wrapped in a moron, inside a buffoon with a far left or liberal agenda. I am, as much as I can be, a thinking person and as such, my opinion has changed over the years based on personal experience, new information and the perspective of age. At times, I hold contrary political and social beliefs. I don't subscribe to a political or party ideology for to do so would make me a zealot and limit my ability to reason and act.

Did that this morning for the first time. Switched to broadheads and shot this from the ground at 18 yards. Then moved into a stand and shaved a feather at 15 yards from the bottom of the stand. First time shooting from the stand. All my fancy footwork went right out the door as I struggled to figure how to pretzel my body on the little platform to get a decent aim. I was hitting the safety rail with my bow, the carabiner in my safety line was clanging against the stand, the knife on my belt was banging against the harness buckle ...
