every gun is different you need to pattern you gun,choke & ammo.i'm good to 40-50 yards. i don't hunt them with dogs, 22-250 and 12ga. i think the 250 is overkill for new yorks thick woods.

i've been fighting myself about scoping my 3030 lever gun,but after shooting today the reality that my eyes aren't what they use to be.i get better groups patterning a shotgun. all my rifle have 3x9x40 set on 4x so i'm thinking of going fixed power.after looking around the Leupold FX-II Ultralight Rifle Scope - 2.5x20mm Wide Duplex 39.5' 4.9" is looking good.anyone have this scope or a fixed power scope ? this gun will be used for close range quick shot stalking.

for me the best has and probably always will be bobwhite quail and rabbit. worst was porcupine and black sea ducks oddball good was beaver,crow,snapper turtle want to try rattle snake,alligator and just about anything i haven't tried. so whats yours??

it sound like a staging area your describing.a deer will get up head to its staging area and rub feed until it feels safe to move out and browse.it could be it was pressured at one time or another and now sticks to a nocturnal pattern. -
you are correct about the thin intestine try a lighter pull rather then a hard pull I've done plenty 6 month old's with it.

The gut hook is good for opening the belly it does get in the way removing the butt I picked up a butt out and use that. If I ever need a new knife it's going to be orange for sure.

i had the same thing happen with my tc encore first shot was high to the left every time with 250gr. shock waves & 2 777 pellets,so i cleaned the gun after every shot which was a pita but worked,i never had any luck with snapping a cap,i didn't hunt much with it until i seen a guy at the range hitting shot after shot with his tc after talking to him he told me to try blackhorn 209 powder.now i can keep the first 5 shots in a 2" group @ 100yrds.if i do my part. try cleaning it after the first shot & see what happens or try the blackhorn.
