  1. Fortunately, I can set my own schedule and will be hawking the weather reports to get out on the best Novemeber days. Oh, who am I kidding...one look at the latest deer down pic in the 'Live from the Woods' thread and I'd be out there on a hot n humid Tuesday!
  2. No, you're just coming across as an asshole. Clear enough?
  3. The full auto mod quote came from the sheriff's mouth not some liberal spin rag so get off my ass. I'm not some clueless liberal snowflake so take your personal attack and shove it. In fact, go source your own information as it becomes public. The investigation is far from over. I'm not wasting any more time in this thread.
  4. Sheriff released more info today. 23 weapons in the suite carried up in 10 different suitcases. Two were scoped rifles that were modified to full auto. Of greater interest is the laptop he had in the room that might provide some clues to his motive. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/10/02/las-vegas-police-feds-race-to-uncover-what-drove-aggressively-unfriendly-gunman-with-weapons-arsenal-to-kill.html
  5. Tell you what, NY has already cost me thousands of dollars in equipment and fees with all of it's jacked up and shifting laws. I really do not want to plunk down another grand for the privelege of hunting an extra 5 weeks. Bow/xbow combined season would be fine by me, but I won't be beating the drums for it.
  6. Utterly sickening. Those people were completely helpless to fight back and slaughtered in minutes. The only gleam of hope was the way our veterans in the crowd and first responders stepped up to save the people around them. To me, it's clear from the videos that the shooter used a fully automatic weapon. That alone tells me this wasn't some guy who just "snapped". No way. This was a tactically, pre-planned event and I doubt that he inconspicously wheeled all of that heavy ass ammo and weaponry up to the room himself. Give LE time to do their jobs (it's been less than 24 hours), but we need some no-bullshit answers to: 1. How did he acquire full auto weapon(s) and what specific weapon(s) were used? How was the full arsenal transported up to his room? Release the hotel video of his movements. 2. Why are two windows shown as blown out? Was there a second shooter? Who helped him carry this out? 3. What was his motivation for carrying out this brutal attack? Was it political, religious, psychological or something else? What drugs, if any, influenced his behavior? Normal, sane people just don't plan and carry out something like this. This was a mass execution and as a nation we need to know the truth.
  7. In short, the bedding areas are fairly thick n nasty, located on the outskirts of home properties and usually adjacent to old apple trees. Having said that, my buddy saw 7 deer yesterday morning from his blind with the closest at 7 yards. None of his target bucks showed, but he never spooked them.
  8. Well, no drag call and I've been as patient as a kid with ADD on a sugar high. Re-arranged my gear for xbow twice already, made another Lifeline, washed hunting clothes, made a shopping list for Cabela's then went out for a 2 hour scouting hike. Going to be a long 5 weeks til xbow!
  9. Was that Bill Winke's trophy room? He has dropped some monsters.
  10. First time that back tag holder scraped loudly against a tree was the last time I wore it. Now I realize that this state goes out of its way to tax, fine and arrest as many people as possible, but I'll take my chances with pocket carry of a back tag. Good grief.
  11. Fueling up while I wait for my neighbor to call for drag help. He's had 7 in close this morning, but not his target bucks.
  12. Not a bow hunter (yet), but my neighbor is out back seeing great activity, some as close as 7 yards to his ground blind. Hope to be on drag duty before lunch.
  13. My neighbor has already seen 1 spike, 4 doe and 2 fawns, some as close as 7 yards. He's waiting on one of the nice bucks, but I suspect we'll be dragging something out soon with or without a rack.
  14. I am leaning towards this strategy. I can hang n hunt anywhere and prefer to be in a tree. Ok, actually I "prefer" to harvest a deer or two and would adopt the best strategy to make that happen!
  15. Wind is usually favorable, coming from behind bedding area, into apple trees on edge and then into the mast. Sometimes we'll have crosswinds. Sneaking in is the toughest part of the deal especially considering that the deer have multiple entry/exit points and there crunchy leaves and twigs covering the ground.
  16. I wouldn't look a gift doe in the mouth either.
  17. Got to thinking about this after a buddy of mine set up his ground blind by some wild apple trees where the deer feed. The problem is that they could practically roll out of their beds and munch on the apples. The area is covered in thickets and there isn't a decent tree to hang a stand unless you stay back in the mast. So... How would you guys bow/xbow hunt something like that? Get in tight with a blind or stay back and get in a tree? Access is tricky the closer you try to get.
  18. I was at the Latham F&S last month to buy a couple bags of corn when they were on sale for $5.98/bag. None left. I asked a store associate and he told me, "Some guy came in here yesterday and bought the remaining 2 PALLETS!"
  19. After watching a big box "expert" struggle to properly mount a scope, I now do all of my own gun work. Youtube sure helps, lol.

    Beer

Glad you enjoy it! It's my favorite brew. This run was released at the brewery in Feb 2016. It was so popular that they did a second run earlier this year. Their barrel-aged brews hit all the right flavor notes.
  21. Deer tested positive for rabies. That's a shame. http://cbs6albany.com/news/local/deer-that-assaulted-troy-man-tests-positive-for-rabies
  22. The next deer will be my first deer. I will be very thankful to take an older doe or buck with a clean kill shot. Last year I passed up a young deer because it didn't feel right. I'm in this for the meat, but don't have any interest in fawns or button bucks. Just need a bit of luck considering that there are 3-5 of us hunting the same small area out back. Nov 4th won't get here soon enough!
  23. Pork shank Osso Bucco. Meat just slid right off the bone.
  24. "If you happen to come across it, stay out of its way." In the interests of Public Safety, I have contacted the Troy PD and volunteered my services to take care of this menace to society.
  25. Kneeling in prayer before or after the game is no longer allowed. Honoring slain police officers or 9/11 victims with a decal is not allowed. But raising a Black Panthers fist or disrespecting the flag during our National Anthem is fine? Bye NFL. No more NFL Network subscription for me. Or tickets, licensed merchandise, likes/clicks on social media NFL sites/pages, fantasy football or office pools. This is the only team kneeling before our flag that I will ever respect.
