  1. I use Peanut or Canola, I prefer Peanut though. I dont filter it after I use it, I do it before. The easiest way is to peel 2 or 3 large potatos, then once the oil is hot, put them in the basket and dunk them and let them fry for 20 mins or so. They will absorb any flavors that the oil picked up from its last use. The bonus is they taste pretty good after you take them out. I never use my electric fryer in the house. Not because Im worried about a fire, but the oil residue that gets on everything, and the whole house smells like fryer oil for a week.
  2. Pulled all of mine yesterday morning. Went through the pics, found that some of the bigger bucks made it through the season. One that I thought had been taken showed up about a week after season ended. I wiped all the cards, loaded 5 of them up with batteries, and Ill be setting them up on our new place this week if I have a chance.
  3. Whatever I can get for free/cheap lol. Kids plastic sandboxes work well too.
  4. He doesnt live nearby, just hunts a piece thats less than 1/4 mile from our rear property line. I have no issue with the guy most of the time. We talk a bit here and there when he picks up or drops off the kids. Keeping things amicable makes for a less stressful life. Same goes for my kids moms.
  5. No, nothing in the deed, just an agreement. It will work out better with me plowing. Thanks! Sounds good! I figure Ill need 8 stands to cover the different wind directions and spots I want to at this place. Just PM me with details and we will get it figured out!
  6. Nope, that was a hot one too, just a little to far over the crazy line for me to keep around.
  7. Ive had that happen before. My buddy told me the next morning that I looked like I was attacked by a grizzly bear. I still have a couple of scars.
  8. Wind is going to be my biggest issue, as the back part of the property sets up West of the house. I just have to be choosy on the winds I hunt. Im going to make a run to pick up a bunch of smoke bombs soon and start wind mapping the place before the leaves start popping out.
  9. Thanks guys. I cropped up the pic of the buck that my girlfriends ex shot in November. I didnt want to include his face, but this is a good example of a 4 1/2 year old in the area.
  10. I have trouble with alot of Polish food, the names keep me away. Like glumpkin. Thats too close to blumpkin for me to consider eating it. Oh, and I hate cooked cabbage. Love me some pierogies though!
  11. Id rather have the right 10 acres than the wrong 200.
  12. Thanks! Yes, Ive already started building the relationships with the neighbors. We are on a 1/2 mile private road with 3 other houses. The 4 homeowners share costs on maintaining the road, and from what I gather, the 3 others are pretty chummy, doing BBQs and stuff like that. Currently they have a plow guy that comes and plows all of their driveways, the road, etc, but hes not that reliable, we found that out with the last storm where we had 2 feet and were stranded for almost 2 days. Im buying a plow truck, and will offer up to everyone that if they throw a few hundred a year in the kitty to help with maintenance and fuel, Ill plow their driveways as well as the road. I also have a commercial zero turn, and our new place has a very small mowed yard, so Ill offer that up as well. Trail maintenance, tree cutting, etc. also. I am the youngest guy in the tract, the others are all retired, so I wont mind helping with things like that.
  13. There’s a creek at the bottom of the hill. I may End up installing a few watering holes by burying tubs in the ground.
  14. Lol there isn’t much of the property that you can see from the house.
  15. Total of the 2 plots should be around 1.5 - 2 acres. There is some, but the closest fields are close to a mile away. Mostly hay lots. I have Not seen any other food plots on satellite photos.
  16. Here is the area for the second plot. First pic shows the plot area with the thick bedding and pinch point behind it. There is a pine tree that you can’t see very well that will have a stand tucked into it. Second pic is looking North where there is a small brush area and the edge of the oak flat. Third pic is the oak flat leading to the Beech stand and up the hill. Last pic is the oak flat, where I will Be putting a tower blind for gun season, and the other plot on the opposite side of that. It should be a great spot to reach I to Both plots and have deer feeding on acorns between them.
  17. This is my first time working my own land with my own ideas and no one else to work around. I’m hoping to take a nice buck this year, but my main goal is going to be getting to know deer patterns and getting Haley her first deer. Im going to use this thread as a chronicle of the planning and work I’ll be doing.
  18. Here are some pics of the first plot area. It is bordered on one side by some brush and pines, and an oak flat on the other. These pics were taken standing in the oak flat. First pic is the plot area. The large pine in the center of the pic is the tree I will Have a stand in. It’s on the predominant downwind side of the plot. Second pic is to the south, that is where the really good pinch point and main bedding is. Third pic is to the east. The second plot will be going there. Last pic is north, going up the hill, which is mostly oak and Beech with a large stand of pines on the neighbors property at the top.
  19. Last year we decided to start looking for a bigger house. We would have been fine with just a few acres, but I really wanted something a bit bigger, and hoped for something huntable. We ended up finding a great deal on a nice house that came with 15 acres. This property is a couple of properties away from where my girlfriends ex hunts. He was good enough to tell me a lot of info about the hunting in this area. Last season he took a mainframe 10 that he said scored in the low 150s. I suck at guessing scores, but I saw photos of the buck and it’s a hell of a good deer. The year before he took an 8 Point that was close to 140. According to him, there are only 5 or 6 guys that hunt this tract. None of them do drives ever, they all hunt low impact and no one shoots deer younger than 3 1/2. He consistently sees plenty of deer walking around during daylight hours all through the season. We moved in a few weeks ago and I finally had some time today to go for a walk and get a good look at the property. I had already done some looking with satellite photos, choosing 2 spots that might be good for a couple of food plots. I confirmed that they will be good spots. I also found some very good looking bedding areas, a good sized white oak flat and a ton of Beech trees. I checked Some of the deer trails and located 2 pinch points, with one being absolutely phenomenal looking. There’s a bunch of scrapes and some nice looking rubs from last fall throughout the woods. I decided on an area where I will Be concentrating on with some hinge cutting this year. We are also having a logging company come in to selectively harvest some of the trees, and they will be leaving the tops, which should create some more thick stuff. I am stopping at the farm to collect trail cams tomorrow, and I will Be putting some of them out back to start seeing what’s wandering around. I’ll post an aerial photo and some pics of the plot areas soon.
  20. Yeah, it’s sad that people don’t know what it is. It’s Canadian for heaven on a plate. It’s nothing like liver and onions lol
  21. Yeah its crazy to me that Remington even uses it at all
  22. I am having my R700 VTR done this year that has that insta-rust Remington coating on it. Im going with Cerakote, and will be having it done through Avon Gun shop. Im sure they are sending things out to someone, Im not sure who exactly that is though. As long as they do a good job, I have a few more for them to do as well. My last house was more humid than I thought and some of my guns ended up with rust on some of the bluing even though we used dehumidifiers.
