I knew who he was, met him once a couple years before but not a friend or anything. He is now deceased.
-
Nope. No pics of him. My first encounter was the year before this pic, he was in the upper 140s, low 150s then. Had 3 encounters, put a slug through his brisket that season. I saw him scouting just days before the guy up the street took him on opening weekend of bow season.

Yep. I had history with this deer for 2 years. Damn near fell out of my stand the first time.

But the pic can....

I have a 2010 Hoyt Maxxis. Bought it in 2011 from a guy on AT that just had to have the latest and greatest. I got it for less than half the price of new. I probably wont bother upgrading until it breaks and I cant get parts any longer.

Hamburgers is one of the few times Ill mix beef and venison. All ground venison burgers are a tad on the dry side usually, and dont hold together too well. I use a 50/50 mix of 85/15 ground beef and ground venison along with my mix of spices. Actually making them this weekend.

Orange and Blue for me. Go Gators!
-
Sure, but put hunting pressure on that same area and see what happens. Just like any food source, the deer pattern the danger.

I would hide my face if I looked like that too. Looks like someones face caught on fire and was put out with a wet brick.

Nice follow up!

WNYBuckHunter replied to burmjohn's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Looks great John -
It doesnt take but a few minutes apiece to make them from a roll of rope.
-
Its not about on or off season, its a discussion. Noone forces anyone to read it
-
Id kill that deer any day of the week and have ZERO regrets or excuses for it.

Do you have a serious issue with comprehension or something? Go back and read what I said, Im not repeating myself.

2014 HuntingNY Whitetail Challenge
WNYBuckHunter replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in 2014 HuntingNY Whitetail Challenge
Im gonna have to start working on this sooner than i thought hahaha -
The hay is used to feed livestock, etc. If there is a need to ship it out of the area that is reasonable, then fine. First it needs to be proven that it can be transmitted through hay or grain. One study is not proof.

I agree. Would I be putting in plots if I didnt hunt? No, I probably wouldnt even know what one was if i didnt hunt lol. I hunt Ag country, lots of food for the deer here, we put plots in for a few reasons. 1, it helps hold and attract deer to our property by providing quality food, which helps the deer's health, and in turn helps with fawn production, bigger antlers and more MEAT. 2, its fun for us to play "farmer" a bit, and gives us something else to do during the off season. 3, it helps out other species, like turkey, etc.

If you dont use the quotes, its hard to tell what someone is responding to. If people werent discussing topics, the site wouldnt last long....just sayin...

Yes, they still react to pressure, though not as much as they usually do. The does will react to pressure and take the bucks with them. Who said that a 2 1/2 year old buck CANT be taken over bait? Absolutely they can, but its not some kind of magic bullet like some are making it out to be. The point I was getting at is that comparing deer activity in NY to that in the midwest or some super managed ranch is not even a fair comparison.

I have shot Culver's 308 Encore, and its a pussycat. I used to have a 260 Remington chambered Encore, which was pretty easy to shoot with factory loads. The furthest I took a whitetail with it was at 200 yards on a decent sized doe with a 140gr. Dropped her in her tracks. Closest deer I took with it was 20 yards, same result.

The key word is reasonable I have no agenda

What you see on most hunting shows has little to nothing to do with NY hunting. You are watching mostly shows filmed on large, unpressured reserves or ranches. Unpressured deer are completely different animals than pressured ones. Keep this in mind next time you are watching one of those shows....

There are always exceptions to any rule, but a few deer can wipe out that 20ft circle in one night, so generally speaking, a "food plot" like that isnt going to be very effective anyhow.
