BTW guys, heres some good reading about deer movements during the rut. This is a GPS study done in Northern PA (because yeah, none have been done above the 38th parallel according to some). It also mentions that the deer acted similarly to the deer done in the larger scale studies down south. Anyway, good reading.... http://www.qdma.com/articles/is-the-lockdown-phase-a-myth Moon Schmoon!

Thats freakin great! nom nom nom

you forgot the stick figure hunters going pew pew pew....

Im not even gonna say it....

Im sure, the studies I have seen went on through the whole rut and beyond, so Im sure it covered all of the hunting seasons. The deer have to move, they have to eat and drink every so often. Just gotta find them.

We have some doozies that we access with screw in steps. On one of them, its a 20 foot high stand and angle of the tree with steps in it had you leaning back for a few feet about half way up. We replaced the screw ins with a 20 foot ladder stick this year, its better now. Other stands are screw in steps and straight up. I was nervous about that stuff a few years ago, but no big deal now.

Moon Schmoon. Look at current GPS collaring studies, they move regardless.

We have a 1500 deductible on my single plan. They just dumped the reimbursement program so now we are completely on the hook for the deductible. With my situation right now, a hit like that at the wrong time might sink my ship. Face it guys, damn near everyone in the political arena is out of touch with reality. Why? because of career politics. You almost have to be rich to get elected to begin with, so you are kind of out of touch going in. Then, you get a taste of being greased here, golden parachute there, treated almost like a celebrity, etc etc and its no wonder why they all seem to slip into that unrealistic world. The system is broken beyond repair. The hogs are in control of the trough being refilled.

Yeah, but like I said, alot of it is big, open ag fields. The thick, hilly farm is @ 275 acres IIRC. The other is big, but not all contiguous. Theres a main road that runs through it, then another farm that cuts one section off, and a few other smaller blocks of the same farm that are separate. The smaller farm that cuts the one section off is maybe 150 or 200 acres, and the guys that hunt it are dolts. It works out well though, once they bump deer from their block of woods, they will typically bed down in a couple of drainage ditches on the farm I hunt, so when the wind is right, and they have hunted in the morning, Ill do a slow stalk on the ditches. Its paid off twice. -

I usually take a sammich, could be PBJ or Turkey or Ham, a granola bar or breakfast bar, some jerky, dried fruit, trailmix or something like that. I also bring apple cider to drink. Thats if its going to be a long sit. On a short one, just the apple cider and a little something to snack on, no sammy.

The most important part of your setup is that beer on the windowsill.

I think its that bed rug in the sissy truck.

2. They are within a couple of miles of one another, but are both completely different animals. One includes a large swamp, is pretty flat and is mostly made up of hundreds of acres of crops. The other is super thick brush, cow pasture land with a couple of creek bottoms and is very hilly. Not a heck of alot of big ag fields nearby, just a few hay fields and one small field that is rotated between beans and corn. It was beans this year so its no help now. We do the food plots on that farm, no need to on the other one. -
As far as I see the whole scent thing, I try to play the wind as much as I can, and I know that the scent killer soap, etc isnt going to make me completely scent free. But, the wind shifts alot where I hunt, it swirls and flows and I believe that the scent killer will reduce my scent, hopefully to a level where the deer will think that I am further away than I really am. I also think that it reduces the scent I leave behind, so maybe the deer will think that it was a long time ago that I passed through. Just this year I have witnessed mature bucks walk right down the very trail I entered on, and never act like anything was wrong. I have also only been busted once when a deer got directly downwind of me. I had also just eaten a sandwich and the plastic bag with mustard on it was sitting right there. I didnt have time to put it away. So I dont know if the deer smelled me or if it was the sandwich bag that did it. Ill never know.
