Got into my stand a few minutes ago. Bumped 2 deer in the corn on the way in. Gonna do the morning sit here then check trail cams and head to the range to check the scope on my muzzle loader. Brought my old 20 gay out of moth balls for this morning.

Show me a case where someone was wearing blaze orange, and the other guy wasnt shooting after legal light. Ill send you $10 if you can. Honestly if you are that afraid to be out there in blaze orange, why arent you afraid to sit inside a camouflage tent???
-
Thats what blaze orange is for

I love still hunting, and have tracked once and caught up with the deer. Problem was, he was already across the property line. You need large, continuous tracts for that, which is why many dont do it.

How windy does it have to be to keep you from hunting?

But if you dont pass on a yearling, its guaranteed that it wont make it. -
My Under Armor Cold Gear and a couple of layers. If its really really cold, the waist belt heating pad and a couple of foot warmers in my boots do wonders.
-
Ill figure that out when I shoot one.

Two words. Still Hunt. -
Dude, get out of the tree stand and still hunt. Its very effective, especially in the wind. Find where they are bedding down and approach those areas from downwind slowly and carefully.

I use the CVA brand barrel blaster spray, not the foam. It works very well. I also have used Windex. After its dry, Ill run a patch through with a bit of TC No 17 natural lube, then a small amount of that on the breech plug threads. I have zero issues with rust, corrosion or sticky breech plug.

Id shoot one in a hot minute. I never had a reason to until Culvercreek gave me a pack of steaks this past summer. Holy delicious!

Fibroma or antler wound. The big boys will occasionally gore the younger ones that dont get out of their way fast enough for their liking.

Passed a bunch of 1 1/2s and 2 1/2s, got busted on draw by a 4 1/2, had 2 3 1/2s skirt lanes and a giant stay out of a lane. I had a ton of fun and am more than satisfied with my bow season. How about you?
-
I cant wait until crossbows are legal next year and I can shoot that 5 point out of your stand with my Excalibur!
-
Its possible. I have seen it and been sent the pic. I keep hearing Mt Morris. Big boys get taken in that area each year. Who remembers this guy from Groveland last season?
-
I have from this Saturday until the Sunday after T-day off. Not a high over 37 degrees in that time frame on the current forecast. Looks like I picked a good week!
-
Thanks NFA, now if I could just stop missing the big boys lol. BTW, you can go to one side of the one farm I hunt and not see a damn thing this year, but about 300 yards away, its like deer city. Why? Food. The "dead" side was all planted in beans this year, which have been harvested and plowed under. There is a small oasis of activity there, which is a thick, traditional bedding area, but thats it. The acorns, hickory nuts, etc are gone over there and the deer have shifted to the other side, which is so full of standing corn, that many apples and nuts are laying on the ground, untouched. Next year, because of crop rotation, it will be the other way around.

Seriously? This thread actually exists?

Its.... Almost.... Tender....

The scrapes have gne pretty much dead in my neck of the woods in the last few days.

Deer see just fine in the dark, they dont need the full moon to move easier. I also never said it was the same every day, its not. What I am saying is that deer activity during the day has been happening the last few weeks. Moon or not, wind or not, etc. Again, I have trail cam pics to back it up. Does, Young bucks, mature bucks, etc. Their patterns simply change and youll find them in different areas than at other times of the year. BTW, I wouldnt call myself an expert deer hunter. Im just shooting the breeze with you, not trying to argue or nit pick. Lots of good info going back and forth, I think.

You guys better stop trying to sell my gear damn it!

You cant be serious. You actually believe that the only deer that have been getting shot have been pushed? Big deer were moving and were taken. I can PM you a couple of pics to prove it, and none of them were being pushed. Im not posting them in the public forum. As far as the moon theories go, science has already put the facts out there, and they dont line up with the hocus pocus moon theories. Just read up on the past and currently ongoing GPS tracking studies. Warm weather will get them to lay up more because of their winter coats, but they do have to move through the day. They have to eat, drink, etc no matter how warm it is. Get in close to the bedding and youll still see them. Spend a warm or windy day on the edge of an open field, and you probably wont see much. My hunting partner and I killed this buck Monday, in the wind and semi warm temps. How? Still hunting. Shot him right in his bed, he never had a chance to get up. You just have to adjust to the conditions. This deer had been seen on his feet, during daylight hours, without being pushed, every single day last week. I passed probably 15 or more deer over the weekend, all on their feet during legal hours, only 2 being pushed.

Im pretty sure these pics are from Pro-Cut. I used them on my early bow season doe this year, as I couldnt do it myself for a couple of reasons. They had the deer done in a matter of less than 2 hours. They did a great job too. Im amazed at some of the responses to this thread. Sad about a bunch of deer at a processor on opening day of gun season? Seriously? You guys realize that the majority of deer taken in gun season are taken on opening weekend right? Good lord. As far as not butchering yourself, not every hunter has the room to do it themselves, even if they know how. Youre gonna skin out and cut up a deer in your apartment complex or condo? Come on guys, theres lots of reasons why people use a processor, and it doesnt always have to do with being a sissy. I like to do mine myself, but Im not going to bash anyone for using a processor.

So if they are only moving at night, how do you guys explain all of the deer that are getting shot the last couple of weeks?
