Thanks Geno. That's number six on the year for me. Best year ever.
-
A friend of mine and I have been out since this morning. Saw a few this morning but no shots. Now we are sitting over the last field of corn on the farm. The farmers combining it. About a half hour ago three does popped out ahead of the combine I put one of them on the ground. Sitting until the end of the day hoping to get maybe one more.

I loosen the straps on all of my stands, take seat pads, shooting rail pads and blinds down, and they all stay in the woods. Ladders and hang ons alike. I do a good check on them each year. If they need any paint, ill do that in the woods, or take it down if it needs any bolts or sanded down at all.

Nice choice. You can get a kit to swap it to the detachable mag or hinged floorplate when you replace the stock, IIRC.
-
We got them from Turners, they said it was hog radish.
-
hog radishes. I assure you, Ive eaten a bunch of them.
-
Nope. We got a 6 foot tiller for next year. The plots are going to be done right, as we will start earlier and with the proper soil tests, etc. Heres a pic of the plot a couple of weeks before season... Heres some of the radishes during bow season, half eaten

They were there an hour and a half before legal time and only went 40 yards by that afternoon, and you stayed there with them that close for that long? It doesnt add up. In any case, I have no problem with people making the effort to track down their deer. I would have either moved or helped them. Get over it.

Urban legend deer situation. What would you do?

Ive shot deer on the side of the road after they have gotten hit by cars, at night, out of season. As long as you are safe about it, the cops dont give a rats ass. They would rather not do the paperwork required each time they discharge their gun anyway. I dont see any difference. I have taken follow up shots to put deer down after legal hours before. -
yep, and been beaten down. No fertilizer, no lime, just scratch and plant.

Its gotta be close to or over a year, the injury caused the deformed antler. I think he uses the leg to a point, Ive never watched him walk. Maybe I should put the cam on video mode and see if he shows again. The pears are a big draw right now. Check out his spine, really twisted up.

I set my cam on a scrape in front of this lonely oak sapling right in the middle of our radish plot. Some neat ones... This guy is a great 1 1/2 year old. I really want to see him in 2 or 3 years. Potential! Does, a buck and a fox! Whats the buck thinking in this one? Just a nice pic of this doe

This buck has been given the name The Gimp for obvious reasons. We are pretty sure he got hit by a car last year. Hes been scraping and is pretty elusive, as we have only had 1 daytime sighting of him. Havent figured out where hes bedding yet. Im waiting for more snow this year to track him down, his trail is blatantly obvious, as he drags his rear leg. Amazing how tough these animals are. I hope he makes it to next year, Im guessing hes 2 1/2 this year, but who knows, cant get a good read on him due to the injury.

The middle of gun season, at least on the ground I hunt, is all about knowing the escape routes. You dont pattern food, water, etc, you pattern escape routes from thickets and bedding areas. Let other hunters bump them to you, take advantage of other guys still hunting, or drive them. Thats how we do it. I prefer not to do all out drives, I really like to still hunt and do small 2 or 3 person "bump drives" as I call them. You basically put one or two guys on watch, then have the other guy still hunt an area. If he sees the deer, he shoots, if he bumps them out, you have to know where to sit to take them out of the escape routes. Three out of the 4 good bucks we have killed on the farm this year fell to still hunts and small bump drives. Does were taken on watch or on the bigger drives.

Shoot, Did I miss you on my texts? Sorry man. My bad.
-
Yep, crappy cams, but what do they care? They get them for free lol. Id be willing to bet their prime cam locations have other brands hanging in them. Its a pretty common practice from what I have heard (people that have sponsorships but really use other products when they can get away with it). Can you really blame them? I bet you would take the pay day if it really came down to it. I would lol.

I have quite a few friends that are girls. Some of them are really good looking, and I have never tried anything with them. I have others that I have already had...um...relations with and they are still friends of mine. -

I got a text from one of my buddys on the farm the other night. His daughter got her first buck, a nice 4, and his one son bagged a really nice 8. We are having a banner year for bucks on the farm, only 1 of us left that hasnt taken one. I want to see him drop Hayrake. If he doesnt, I hope to in ML season! -

Never tried to get out of it with her. She has a boyfriend, and when it comes to that, Im a very respectful guy most of the time. Thanks! -
Ive seen plenty get hit on 490 in the city of Rochester. The fences on 104 arent that tough for a deer to walk around.
-
I have zero issues taking a doe. The bigger the better when Im filling my regular DMP tags, but when it comes to filling DMAPs for the farmer, any doe is fair game to me. I hunt his land for free, my job first and foremost is to make him happy. Now big, old does, they are just about as tough to hunt as a mature buck. Get get very spooky and skiddish.

Man, I smelled the same thing! Congrats Geno. Let me know when you are gonna head up here, still some steaks in the freezer, but I need to refill the propane for the grill!

Good luck with the surgery

I have the same experience as phade with the SSTs and Shockwaves. They do their job, but blood trails have not been great. Luckily, I havent had to do a whole lot of tracking. If it wasnt for the snow last week, my buck would have been a very hard track job. It went 100 yards with little blood except for the last 10 to 15 yards.
