  1. I think I know that spot lol. Good 'ol Piffard.... blink and you miss it.
  2. I have a lever action 30-30 that may see some action. I just have other things going on with my extra money this year. Dropping $300 + what a scope costs for a combo for my TC just isnt in the stars for me right now. My muzzleloader setup lets me reach out to 200 comfortably. Good enough for now.
  3. Apparently you did. Go back and read every crossbow debate on here and other places. Im sure youll actually find people saying that compounds offer some advantages over crossbows and crossbows offer some advantages over compounds. Basically, the argument (from MOST people I have heard) is that crossbows are merely another form of archery equipment, and they have similar effective ranges as the compounds that are currently legal to use.
  4. Grow, if they are not legal hunting implements in NY, then they cant possibly be put into a small game season. All one would have to do to see NYB's true objective is look at their previous (before it was allowed for the 2 years) position on the issue. I dont have anything saved, but you may be able to research it through this site. Just look for crossbow threads from before they were allowed. NYB has since changed their rhetoric to just keep them out of archery season. Heres an article to read. http://blog.syracuse.com/outdoors/2013/07/crossbow_legislation_update_th.html
  5. I went down to one of the farms and checked my cam yesterday. Got some good videos of deer, yotes and squirrels. Nothing impressive yet though. I went over to the other farm and worked on food plots with a couple of the other guys. We expanded 2 of them to double their previous size. They are both new plots and will be planted this year. Myself and another guy took an ATV ride down through some areas that we want to try and capitalize on this year. It was a good strategy kinda day.
  6. Well the pear tree is directly next to 3 apple trees, so its kinda on topic.
  7. I dont recall ever hearing anyone say there is NO advantage to them. Thats just typical NYB misinformation that they spread to try and push their agenda.
  8. NYB wants no crossbows in NY what so ever. The only "compromise" Sweeny acted to make would have kept crossbows in regular gun season ONLY, and taken away the early youth deer season. The governor vetoed it.
  9. I checked a pear tree yesterday thats @ 25 feet tall. That tree is loaded with fruit. With the lack of apples in the area this year, I have a feeling that per tree should be a good draw once the fruit starts dropping.
  10. I know guys in NY that have made calls to the TIPP line and spoken directly to DEC officers about feeders that are directly viewable from the road, and nothing is ever done. The DEC just doesnt have the staff to do much about it.
  11. Yeah 260 has a bit less of a selection of bullets, but the ones that are available are plenty good. 7-08 gives a tad more diameter, but the real world difference is most likely nil. Both flat shooters that pack enough speed and energy to do the job at the distances I would be comfortable with. I probably wont jump right on board this year (unless I get a deal I cant turn down), as Im still swooning over my muzzle loader.
  12. I think Im going to try putting them up about 2 feet higher than they are now and angle them down a bit. I also need to pile some brush in front of the cam to keep them out a ways, I keep having the camera tripped and just getting ear tips moving across the bottom lol.
  13. Gotta love summer time bachelor groups! Great vids, thanks for sharing!
  14. Grow, you do realize that this bill has nothing to do with deer hunting specifically, right? All it does is make the crossbow a legal hunting implement in NY and allow the DEC to regulate what you can hunt with it. Cant get more basic than that. The problem is, a minority group has one person in their back pocket, and unfortunately, that one person is capable of keeping the bill from being voted on by our state representatives. I would feel much better if the bill was voted on and failed on its merit rather than be kept out by one person with an agenda. Pretty pathetic if you ask me.
  15. Ive never had areas go dead with the red IR cams, but I did run into issues where bucks, especially those 3 1/2 and older, never came back to that spot. I actually saw one (through binos) walk around the trigger area of a cam that was in the same spot as it was the previous year. I guess I will see if the same thing happens with the black flash cams. phade, I also noticed that all reactions to my black flash cam, so far, has been daytime. Heres an example.
  16. Sweet. I used to frequent a local swimming hole like that in high school. It was (still is) an old train bridge that we would jump off of into the creek. Great fun.
  17. 100% agree. I will tell someone that baiting is illegal, hell, I may even bust their chops about it, but thats about as far as I go. If they get caught, I wont feel bad for them. Gander Mountain usually has a board for posting up trail cam pics in the store, starting around this time of the year. You can see all kinds of pics of deer eating out of troughs and feeders there. DEC could probably spend a little time watching who puts the pics up on there and catch the guys red handed, but they dont have the staff to do so. Honestly, I would much rather see them bust guys for outright poaching, taking deer out of season, jack lighting, etc than have them play salt-lick cop.
  18. Yep, I noticed the same thing with my old white flash cam. They seem to react to them differently than a red IR flash cam. The only hiccup is that I have never used a white flash cam in video mode. Might be interesting to put a black flash cam up in a tree pointed at a white flash cam and see what happens.
  19. So far, after switching to true black flash cameras, the only reaction I have gotten, has been scent related. The deer do not react to these cams like they did my old red IR flash cams. I have a couple series of videos of deer just hanging out in front of the cam, at night, with zero reaction to it. They dont even seem to notice it.
  20. Well, the people that own the farm are horse riders. Their riding trails are priority #1. The farmers and the rest of us work around the trails. No brush hogging or anything else gets done unless the trails are mowed. Stands are hung with green, brown or black straps ONLY because they dont want to see them on the trees. Fields all have wide trails around them. There are quite a few rules, but it works out well for everyone.
  21. Heres the first video, a young buck. Good sign though! Second one Ill post is a good size yote. last one is neat, as you hear the deer sniffing the cam.
  22. So I FINALLY got my first pull from my 2013 Black 60. I had it in one of my best trail cam spots, meaning I get the most action from it. I set it on its highest resolution video mode with 25 second clips. Before I start posting videos, I just want to say I am extremely happy with the cam. I had it out for a week, with 49 videos, which sucked up just over 1 Gb of space on my 16 Gb card. Long term sets on video mode will be no problem with the highest resolution (IIRC, its 1080p). The sound is awesome, so neat to hear the animals and surroundings. The animals dont seem to notice the cam after my scent washed away with the rain. I love the cam, and will most likely get another one. Ill post vids as soon as they finish uploading.
  23. BTW, the thing driving me nuts about the news cast, is that they call the kidnapper a "suspect" repeatedly. Its pretty clear the guy was guilty as sin, and was not a suspect, but a criminal, and kidnapper.
