Modified WGI IR-4
WNYBuckHunter replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in DIY - Do It Yourself, tutorials and videos
Its 6 volt, I checked it when I was testing it to hook the power connector up. The charger for it will do 6 or 12 volt, I have it set to 6. Here are the pics. First one is the female connector in the bottom side of the cam.I used a good coating of silicone to seal it up. Its a type M connector. Heres the inside. Here you can see where the battery connector tabs were broken. Here are the power connection wires that plug into the board hooked to the new power plug. Success!! Finished job. Heres the adjustable mounting strap that I added. No more bungee straps. The strap is screwed on with a couple of stainless screws, again sealed up with silicone. Here is the battery case, you can see the cable on the right. -
Im not going to go round and round on this, if you think its a competition, then thats what you think, facts be damned. Please explain how much work you did to earn the right to kill antlerless deer wherever you want with little to no regulation of such.

Ignorance in America
WNYBuckHunter replied to Mr VJP's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Well, if insults develop during the discussion, its a little easier to deal with, but when the first comment a person makes in a thread is a personal insult, thats when it goes over the line. Just my opinion. -
Nice!

Sucks that you guys have to renew it. Up this way, it is good until revoked.

Ignorance in America

No matter how you spin it, it was not racist in any way shape or form. But lets not get that far off topic. Glad to see you can admit you were wrong on the idiot thing though. In any case, I dont want to sit here and argue, just asking that people cool their jets a bit on throwing nothing but personal insults into a thread. -
I have a 2 year old Wildgame Innovations IR-4 trailcam, which were notorious for crappy plastic that would break on the tabs that held the battery contacts. Mine broke and I decided to modify it for use with an external battery pack. I bought one of the battery packs from WGI that has 2 6 volt batteries inside, and is water proof and rechargeable. It has a pretty long cord, which is protected by a stainless steel flexible conduit. Overall, a pretty nice pack. I went to Radio Shack and picked up the correct female connector that the battery pack will plug into. I will be modifying the cam case and mounting the connector to it so that I can just plug the battery pack in like the newer cams from WGI. Ill take pics of the steps along the way. I am also looking at the possibility of modifying a 6v solar panel to charge the battery pack, making the cam completely self sufficient, no more charging or changing batteries.

Doc, a lottery is not a competition, its a random drawing. The only way to gain advantage in NY DMP lottery is to have preference points (not drawing a DMP in past lotteries). There is no possible way to actively compete for the permits. Bow or ML license holders will still have the advantage of the extra buck tag and alot of extra time in the woods. Again, you are not guaranteed anything when you buy your license.
-
The competition involved is in another whole batch of additional lottery participants. It's just like any lottery, more participants means more chances to be rejected. From a bowhunter's standpoint those odds are significantly higher than they are right now. For the gunners, they too may see some extra rejections because of the bowhunters and muzzleloaders selection success. The fact that it is a "lottery" means there are some losers. I have yet to see any kind of lottery (including the DMP drawing) where everyone is accepted. And also, you are ignoring what has become a traditional over-rejection rate with the now-usual freebies that don't become available until the lottery has ended. Typically that happens at a date that would be well into bow season. So yes, just like any lottery there is competition with winners and losers. And unfortunately the bowhunters are left out of some of that as I just explained. Its called picking who gets DMPs for that area that year. A good point was made about it earlier in the thread, gun hunters have always had to deal with the chance of not getting DMPs. Why shouldnt bow hunters have to? Regardless, its a better way to allocate DMPs based on what is best for the herd in a certain area. In turn, whats good for the herd is ultimately good for us as hunters.
-
If you dont buy a bow license, and you get your ML license, you get a buck tag with it. Otherwise, you buy the opportunity to hunt with a ML. How you use your tags is your choice.
-
I dont know about you Grow, but if Im paying for my DMPs, I want to try and use them. Doesnt always work out, but I try. Some of you act like you are buying the deer to begin with. This is hunting, not a game preserve. You buy a license in order to hunt game, its not a guaranteed thing.

Video? Anyone going to try to video their hunting?
WNYBuckHunter replied to burmjohn's topic in General Hunting
I am going to give it a try this year. I would have liked to get a new HD cam this year, but I have my choice between that or a new bow. Im getting a new bow lol. I have an older D8 cam that Ill be using. I am going to look at a camera arm, but will probably just make a nice aluminum one myself. -
Dave, they make additives you can put in to keep the seals, gaskets and rubber hoses from rotting away as fast. My dad uses it in everything, Ill ask hime which one it is.

Ignorance in America
WNYBuckHunter replied to Mr VJP's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Oh and calling someone racist for no reason isnt inflammatory? Calling people idiots, etc isnt inflammatory? Riiiight. Like I said, no rules against disagreeing, but the personal attacks in every thread is ridiculous and needs to stop. -
Oh I test it every now and then. Rub a few leaves on my arm just to see what happens. If that does nothing within a day or so, I take the sap and put a small drop on me. It has never (knock on wood) caused any type of rash or skin irritation. Maybe someday Ill be allergic, but for now, Ill just walk right through piles of the stuff on my way to my stand that nobody else will go to.

And is in the red when it comes to power vs cost. Makes no sense.

FYI, I am not, and have not ever used a "blanket defense" or any real defense at all for VJP. I dont even necessarily agree with his posts, but he does have a right to post them without people launching personal attacks on him every time. Like I said before, argue and debate the subject all you want, I dont care if you agree with it or not. As for the title of the forum, its fine as is. I suggest you figure out what an internet troll is, because your picture should go beside the definition. All you do is talk down to people on here, maybe you dont even realize you are doing it, but you are. -
Shoot, I just saw where you said you did. If you are shooting a bow with the wrong DL, your form will not be ideal and will cause you issues, such as black and blue arms
-
Thanks for the offer. I pulled an old bow out of my brothers garage. It's over 20 years old and it's at 29.5". I had it touched up and re-strung. Haven't actually taken it out to shoot yet. I think what happens is that my form is fine when I'm focused. If I'm taking my time on every shot, I don't have a porblem. But once I get into a flow and I stop thinking about it, I start to lock my elbows. Next time at the range, I'll see if I can record myself. Have you been fitted yet? You should be getting your draw length measured and your bow set accordingly.
-
Just like now, if you use your buck tag in archery, you cant shoot one in late ML season. You will use your DMPs during late ML, which is the only difference.
-
I didn't know that it was Bow hunters and Muzzleloaders (us) against the gun hunters... Yes, whether you like it or not this proposal does put bowhunters and muzzleloader hunters in competition for DMPs with the regular season hunters where such a competition never existed before. It does not. The drawings are based on WMU and for areas with low DMP allocation it will be based on preference points, etc. There is no competition involved at all. Its not who lines up at the door to the store the earliest.
-
You will still get 2 buck tags. Technically, your chances for a DMP will go up because they dont have to factor in all of those use anywhere either-sex tags and can issue the proper number of DMPs for each area. The DMP drawing would be when you get your lisence, and they would set dates to it, just like they do now. The big difference would be when the DMPs become available and what date the availability goes to. Geeze, where are you guys getting this stuff from. Read the proposal and clarification, its all in there.

Im not allergic to it at all. Comes in handy, since I can hunt alot of places other people cant. I was coming down a tree on state land in my climber last year that had a ton of poison ivy growing up it and a guy passing by (rabbit hunter) saw me and asked if I knew I was in a tree loaded with it and I told him yes. He thought I was nuts lol.

Bubba, I think they should have a thread for just Politics period. Not to confuse hunting and politics being lumped together. That way if you see a post under the politics section you know it has nothing to do with hunting. And we know who we can put in charge of that thread. Just my humble opinion.Dave Dave, we already have that :D Its called the Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussion forum, which this thread is in. -
