Ignorance in America
WNYBuckHunter replied to Mr VJP's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Youve never hear the expression regarding throwing stones and glass houses? : The only axe I have to grind with you is because you dont do much more than talk down to people and throw out insults here in the political forum. You are just another internet troll. -
I would feel totally guilty if I killed a young buck with so much potential. He gets a free pass from me this fall. So does his bachelor group buddy, "Wide Boy," another great looking 2 year old that I've been watching since last summer... Yeah, Id pass on him as well, but it would be tough lol
-
Thats what I was reading, that bucks, especially mature ones will be more likely to check a mock scrape line rather than just a random single mock scrape. Supposedly, if you start them now, it will cath the deer's attention more than if they already have their own scrape line established.

I just send an email to their general mailbox and usually get a response in a matter of a day or two. Ive asked them all kinds of questions and never had them not answer me.

You wouldnt be hunting in anyones yard unless you had permission, and I can think of one spot, on my fathers land, in a rural area, where I could put a stand that I cant now. Its just under 300 feet away from one house, and 400 away from another. It would be a great spot in an inside corner, where you cant even see either house, and deer walk within 20 yards of it almost every day. It has a perfect tree in it that I used in the past for my practice stand. The old neighbor didnt care, but then sold his house and this new guy gave me crap about it even though I dont shoot or in any way face his yard or home when I was shooting targets. Hes just one of those people that like to try and throw his weight around. Now Im not saying I would hunt in that spot, but it would be nice to get my practice stand back.

I tried 4 mock scrapes last year. 2 of them were hit by deer, the other 2, I am not sure of.
-
Man, hes gonna be a "heart attack buck" next year if he makes it! It would kill me to pass that guy up this year, even knowing hes only 2 1/2. ???

That one in the first pic of the second post has some nice G2s

Ive been reading up on making mock scrapes and ran across an article in the NYODN suggesting that it is a good idea to start creating a mock scrape line now. I was out shopping this morning and picked up some of that Grave Digger scrape starter along with the rechargable battery packs for my trail cams. Im going to do some experimenting on the farm and put a scrape line of 5 or 6 scrapes in with my trail cam on the middle one to see if they get any action. If they do, I know where Ill be setting a stand next month.

I hope you dont think Im slamming you in any way, Im not. Im just saying that no law prevented that incident. As far as you getting ticketed for hunter harassment, the judge has to see intent of the party to harass the hunter. Say for example, the guy mowing his lawn is flipping the hunter off, or something like that, then its harassment. Someone mowing their lawn or cutting wood while you are in a tree near their property is not considered harassment on its own.

Buck, 30 years ago there were gas leases on lots of land in NYS but they were never drilled. The type of drilling was vertical and not as intrusive as Hydro Fracking which used millions of gallons of water for each well. Not to mention the sand and chemicals pumped down the well. This type drilling is horizontal and much deeper than previous wells they typically drill down 7 or 8 thousand feet. Plus they are talking about drilling thousands of wells in southern NY.Dave. Gottcha

Ive been reading up a bit on this issue, and havent come to any conclusions yet, but I did want to make one point about NG wells. We have them all over the place out in WNY, as we sit on one of the largest NG pockets in the northeast. You see the wells, sure, but they arent big unsightly things, they are pretty small actually, and we havent had many issues with blowouts, fires, etc. I seem to remember back when they were drilling most of them in the 80s, that alot of people were talking about pollution and all of the various possible disasters that could be caused by all of the wells being drilled. None of it happened, and now 20 years later, you really have to be looking for them to see the wells.

Ignorance in America
WNYBuckHunter replied to Mr VJP's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Well commenting or disagreeing with the topic is fine, but just throwing a personal insult in the thread is another. Im not trying to pick on you wztirem, as there are others that have been doing the same thing. As for the political threads, as long as they stay in the politics forum, they are fine. -
Ignorance in America

Yep, you are an expert at it. You seem to be good at throwing the first stone Mr Glass House. If you care to argue the merit of my statement, feel free to shoot me a PM, Id be happy to discuss it with you. -
You cant guarantee anything, especially with hunting, and bow hunting in particular. Bad shots come with the territory and can happen for many reasons that are way out of your control. What Im trying to say is dont be too hard on yourself, put in your practice time and youll be ready before you know it. I shot for 2 years before I hunted with a bow. Oh, and dont lock your elbow on your bow arm. If you need to to get your bow drawn completely, your draw length might be set too long.

Ever wonder why we have laws that forbid shooting across the road, or the current limit of 500 feet from structures, or any number of laws against doing some stupid things. It is because there really are dumbasses out there. I know there are because I've seen them. Do such laws ever stop such stupid acts? ....... perhaps not 100%, but probably it does stop some. At the very least, it gives the law something additional to charge these stupid people with. What the heck, it's pretty stupid for somebody to get all drunked up and go flying down the expressway in the wrong direction. We have laws against all of that, and yet every so often you read about someone doing it. Should we eliminate those laws simply because such an acts are certifiably stupid? I think that just as there was justification for the 500 foot rule, it probably makes sense to at least consider whether exceptions to that law could be a move in the wrong direction, regardless of the intellect of the dumbasses that these laws are trying to control. Who said anything about eliminating the law? Apparently you missed my point, which is 50 yards or 100 yards, doesnt matter in a case like the one that was posted. MO has a 100 yard law, no distance law stopped this incident from happening. Its just like the articles that were posted a while back in another thread about some moron shooting arrows into the air in a city neighborhood and people being struck by them. No distance law or even a no discharge law stopped that incident either. It was a case of stupid, and there is no fix for that.

Squirrel hunting- 44 days!
WNYBuckHunter replied to Skillet's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
I plan on doing a bit of squirrel hunting this year. Ill be using my new air rifle, which should do just fine on them, and no shot to pick out of the meat. -
10 pounds a minute . Who's cranking that baby ? ??? Well, to get that much meat through it, youd wear your arm out pretty quick!
-
LMAO, I cant believe I did that, thanks for the correction Eddie Sorry , but I had to bust you on that one . I thought holy crap , 48# of meat would take 24 hours to grind . I don't think so . ... ... LOL, yeah I think I could do it faster than that with my 1920s hand crank grinder. ;D

Well what you have here is a case of dumbass. The guy was shooting his bow toward a house, which is just plain stupid. All the laws in the world most likely wouldnt have stopped that from happening. The guy was not following basic safety rules to begin with. In Missouri, it is illegal to discharge a bow or firearm within 100 yards of an occupied structure, it is also illegal to knowingly discharge at any building or habitable structure unless doing so in self defense.
