  1. If you read the bill you might also notice that the legal implements that are allowed to use during the regular season is missing something else besides the crossbow. The compound bow. It list pistols, rifles, shotguns muzzleloaders and long bow. NO cross or compound. My camp is in cortland county and no compound during the regular season disturbs me a bit. I missed that one. Sounds to me like proper attention just was not paid when the bill was written up. Just think of how much wasted time and money they will have to go through to fix it.
  2. I doubt the broadhead made the arrow fly high. It was probably either you misjudged the distance, picked the wrong pin, or the doe did what many deer do when they hear the bow or see movement, they drop their body down extremely quickly. As long as you have your bow tuned for them properly, just about any broadhead can hit with your field points, mechanical or fixed. I have shot deer with both types. Both did their jobs. Fixed blades have given me the fewest issues and are the simplest design, so that is what I have gone back to and will stay with from here on out. If you are shooting a slower or lower poundage bow, you should stick to fixed blade, as some of the mechanicals out there require a certain amount of speed and kinetic energy to function at their best. Just my 2 cents.
  3. Actually, if you go to the NYS Assembly page and look up the bill, you can see the progression of it, and it was referred to DEC for approval 3 separate times. http://assembly.state.ny.us/leg/?default_fld=&bn=S01683&term=2011&Summary=Y&Actions=Y&Text=Y&Votes=Y
  4. Thank heavens we've got a self-appointed keeper of the facts here : Wow, who said that besides you? You getting a case of cant disprove the message so you shoot the messenger?
  5. 12 to 15 inches in diameter or circumference?
  6. I emailed Tarjac about doing the bow in Predator Green Deception, and they can do it for me. I am going to get the string stop done black, the riser and limbs in the Predator. They are going to mask off the edges of the limbs so you can still see the layers, just like it came from the factory. The stabilizer, sight, rest, limb pockets and cams will stay black. I think its going to look good. I am also talking to a guy on AT about making a new grip out of deer antler, then its getting a Team Hoyt removable quiver and a Stokerized stabilizer. I dropped it off at the shop today to get tuned and have the module for the draw length changed. He was hoping to get it back to me tomorrow so I can shoot this weekend.
  7. The DEC should have caught it, as it went to their desk for approval part of the way through the process. Might have been an honest mistake, but who knows.
  8. Actually it does I think you need to rethink what an attack is and consists of. Of course, some people take anything that contradicts their values to be an attack. Thats usually called being overly sensitive and not being able to handle any type of criticism. OK, call people whatever you want. I really don't have enough patience tonight to play your usual never ending word-games. No games here Doc, just pointing out the facts.
  9. John if you create an app like that, Ill test it for you.
  10. Back on subject... I got a reply from the Region 7 DEC wildlife office. They have verified that the recently passed rifle bill has inadvertently made crossbows illegal to use in Cortland county. Their legal department is looking into what can be done to fix it.

  12. I use a stabilizer that is anywhere between 6 and 10 inches, I think my current one is 8. It sticks out just a little further than my sight does, so its no bother when hunting. You dont need a super long stabilizer to have it be effective. Unless you are shooting an older bow, forget about the vibration dampening, as most newer bows are pretty dead in the hand and quiet without a stabilizer anyway. I use mine as a counter balance to help steady the bow. I will be picking up an new stabilizer from Stokerized for my Maxxis. Ill be getting either the 8 inch with the Saturn weight or the SS1, which is fully adjustable. http://www.stokerized.com/products/hunting_standard.lasso
  13. Agreed. I am fine with the way it is most of the time around here. Makes it interesting.
  14. Pretty sure you can own them, just have to have the right permits. They would never be legal for hunting though.
  15. For good cam reviews, check the sticky at the top of the section.
  16. Isnt a hypothetical question supposed to be a bit of a stretch in the first place?
  17. They have had that for the last 3 years. They will probably be there again.
  18. Saying that someone is being selfish or is expressing a selfish attitude, does not equate to a personal attack. Now if you call someone a selfish a-hole, then it would be a personal attack. Funny how so many people can sit there and dish out criticism, but as soon as someone criticizes something in a way that they may not like, they cry foul and say its a personal attack. What is this? Romper Room? BTW, lets not carry the AR discussion into this thread too lol
  19. I have about 20 acres that includes my father's property and the neighbor's property that I hunt. Another state access archery only area thats a couple hundred acres. I also have the farm, which is actually 3 farms (2 owned by one and another on seperate) that are connected that total up to 1400 acres, plus it butts up to 600ish acres of state land. I also hunt at a friend's land once in a while, and that is around 90 acres. My fathers land just has one stand and a ground blind. The state lands I hunt with the climber or still hunting. The farm is going to have 5 of my stands plus my ground blind. There are also some other people that hunt the farm, and they have a bunch of stands up. I also did a bunch of still hunting on the farm, and will continue to do that as well. Then theres my buddy's "camp" down in the southern tier. I didnt go down there last year. Might go for a weekend this year.
  20. I use mine just a little in the stand. This app seems like it will come in handy just to keep track of what stand is good for what wind direction. It would be great if they added a GPS map with tracking capability. They could also use the GPS to check the wind direction where you are and automatically show you what stands to choose from that day.
  21. I put 5 scrapes in along a field edge last weekend when I put out my cam. The cam is on the end scrape at the head of a very worn deer trail. I am trying to figure out the best trails to hunt in this particular area, so I will be moving it in another week or so. Hopefully the scrapes got a little action. phade, thanks for the tip, Ill have to do that once the scraping starts.
  22. But Id spend days tracking it till I found it, and it would be served up with gravy and mashed potatoes.
  23. Im not sure if its a typo on the website or not. I shot an email to the Region 7 DEC office for clarification.
