HAHAHA, nope. Im not much of an AR supporter, just stating a fact. We have the food and habitat to grow big deer here.

Its a "dick move" to give my opinion and tell about my experiences? Was I talking about you? Nope.

Thank you for spreading some common sense

So you have to define what electronic equipment is. A light bulb is not electronic, its electric, not the same thing. An LED may be considered electronic though. The only way to find out what they consider electronic would be to contact P&Y and ask.

Target practice on State Land
WNYBuckHunter replied to erussell's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Email the DEC and ask, they will answer you. I am pretty sure they are going to tell you that you do not need a hunting license to target shoot on state land. -
If there was a rule not allowing rapid fire of ANY weapon on the range, then you would just ban those guys from the range and make sure they were held responsible for breaking the rule. Saying that a 30 round magazine is the problem instead of the idiot misusing it is the same thing as the anti-gun lobby saying that guns are the cause of murder, not the criminal that carried out the crime. You may not like 30 round mags, but why should you have the right to say that I cant own one just because its not your cup of tea? Thats like me saying you shouldnt own a Corvette because it can go faster than any reasonable person should drive, so its dangerous and I dont like it.

Canandaigua has a great waterfront area, something for everyone.

So you make it so that you have to take a doe in that specific area in order to get a buck tag which would be good anywhere? Or would it be where you have to take a doe in that area to be able to take a buck in just that area? What about taking a buck anywhere else? Im just trying to understand what exactly, you mean by this.

More than likely, you just wouldnt have to pay to enter for the DMP. DMPs are just not guaranteed for anybody. Think about it, people keep complaining that deer numbers are too low, and that too many does are being taken in some areas. The problem with the current system is, everyone with a bow/ml tag gets a DMP that is good anywhere, so its hard to restrict the number of does taken in a certain area. This move is not a fiscal one, its a move to gain more control over the doe take in each area.

So I know a few of you are into photography, and take some really nice shots. I figured Id ask your advice about what lens to get for my camera. I have a Nikon D40 that works great for me, but all I have is the factory 18-55mm lens, which is fine for close shots, but I want something with more zoom capability. Eventually I want to get a really long range telephoto lens, but for now, I just want something that I can use for general use as well as reaching out there and getting shots from a pretty good distance. Im not a professional photographer, and dont want to carry or even have a ton of lenses around, just maybe 3 or 4 tops that will cover most situations.

BTW, you can watch the videos in HD if you up the resolution in the bottom bar for the video. When you click the play button, you will see where it says '360p' with an up arrow, just click on that and set it to '720p'.

Thanks! Its a Samsung Fascinate. There are quite a few of the higher end phones out there that shoot in HD now. The bummer with them is there is no kind of zoom. If they can figure out how to put a real zoom lens on cell phones, the point and shoot camera and compact video camera markets are going to completely change.

I can remember years similar to this. We had one maybe 8 years ago or so. I remember having to water my lawn for most of the summer because I was trying to get rid of the weeds and build up on more actual grass, but had a really hard time of it with the lack of rain we had for most of the summer.

My comment wasn't meant to argue the rightness or wrongness of what is going on, but rather to highlight and emphasize what I believe I see going on with the DEC's attitudes toward bow season. That was just in case anyone was missing the point that the DEC is involved in a bit of a hostile attitude toward bowhunting and perhaps is wishing it were not such a big deal in NYS. So any bowhunters who are feeling complacent or think that bowhunting has evolved into some kind of guaranteed right or enjoys the same level of protections that any of the gun seasons have, had better take a look at what is going on within the government organization that has the real control over this activity. Those that have a particular fondness for bowhunting had better keep an eye on what is happening and make their opposition heard. The nature of bowhunting is about to change and the actual negative impacts may be being led by the DEC itself. No, I knew what you said, I was just asking the question, what do you think should be done to up the effectiveness of hunting season without having to selectively expand gun seasons in areas that need the herd thinned out. Personally, I do not want gun seasons expanded. As I have said before, I think they should be shortened or reconfigured to take some of the pressure off of the deer. I believe that could make the season more effective, because deer wouldnt be going into lock down mode for so long. The added bonus is that hunter satisfaction would possibly go up because more people are seeing more deer as a result of less pressure. Just an idea though. I kind of wanted to hear what ideas might be floating around in your mind about it.

Had a great time at the airshow today! It was HOT though, and Ill be suffering with a pretty bad sunburn for the next few days, but it was worth it to see the show and see the kids have a good time. I figured out how to get full HD resolution with my cell phone, not bad quality. Blue Angels in Rochester NY 7-16-11 Blue Angels, Rochester NY 7-16-2011 Some pics... Well Doc, though you and I, and many others dont like it, one of DEC's jobs is to manage herd numbers. If deer arent being taken in the right amounts in certain areas, what do you propose they do about it? More DMPs? They probably are handing out a ton in those areas already. They cant increase hunter access. DMAPs and DDPs? Wait till you hear the hunter reaction to that lol. The only option left is to open the hunter's opportunities for that area up in a way that will be effective with the least number of people complaining about it.

One of the former Non-typical state records is in the basement of someone I know. The one that took the title from that one is in his neighbor's home. Both were taken in the Livingston/Ontario/Monroe county area. I wont get more specific than that. The one is mounted along side multiple 160+ deer that were never entered in the books and a pile of 130 and 140+ skull caps that he never even bothered to mount. We grow em big out here if they dont get shot young.

Getting dry here, but the crops are doing well. Corn across the street is chest high, maybe shoulder high and the beans are probably 10 inches or taller. We do need some rain soon though, grass is just about dead.

Pretty sure its in response the the forum activity. DEC isnt as stupid as some make them out to be, and this forum comes up quite a bit on Google if you are referring to subjects we talk about in your search. If you have it enabled in your profile, you can be emailed through the site, so they probably sent them to those that were complaining about those two things.

Why I've lost interest in hunting shows.

Nah, we do the same type of stuff on the golf course and while working on cars, etc in the shop. Well, we dont fart in each other's faces, but you know what I mean. -

Kinda funny you mention that. One of my buddies that I used to hunt with alot (not very much any more) and I used to laugh about using Scent Lok and if farts get trapped in them and then wafting you as it escapes through the collar. ;D -
Active bear den found on my property - old man saw it today.
WNYBuckHunter replied to burmjohn's topic in General Hunting
Here are the bear seasons for each region from last year. They should be similar this year, except for western NY, which I thought is going to change the bear opening day to coincide with deer opening day. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/28605.html#Black -

I think they should use that chubby guy T-Bone, who appears on some of the Realtree Monster Buck DVD's as host of this DVD. It would be funny as heck to see him sweating amongst all those pretty "racks"! Probably would be a good idea to have paramedics on standby while they shoot the DVD! Just might be a little more than the big boy can handle! HAHAHA, Im not going to say anything bad about Travis, Ive met him and hes one of the nicest people youd ever meet. Not saying anything bad about him. He does seem like a jovial kind of fella, that is why he came to mind here. Would just be funny having him waddling around behind the photographers while they take the calendar pictures of those big "racks"! Surely would be more entertaining than seeing him take yet another "management" buck! LOL Maybe he could ask one of them if his Scent-Lok works, like he did with poor 'ol Nick Mundt lol
