Comparing cars to guns is an extremely weak comparison. Cars were designed to transport people, guns were designed to stop or kill something. Big difference. I could strangle someone with the same rope that I hang my laundry on, but the ropes primary use is for something other than stopping or killing. One can't argue that a gun was designed for anything other than putting a projectile thru something at a considerable velocity. Surely one of the most effective killing machines ever designed, so it will take a LOT of convincing to those who don't own them (and even to many who do like myself) that they are just innocent objects that need no regulation. In the way I compared them, it is completely relevant. Although capable of doing so, guns are not designed and built with the intentions of someone committing a crime with them or becoming part of the illegal gun trade. The primary intended use of most guns is hunting or target practice. Again, I am not saying there should be no regulation, I am saying that all of the necessary regulation is already in place and that most of the newer gun laws that they are trying to put in place are nothing more than harassment of legal, law abiding gun owners.

steve, if you take a real good look at the AR platform, you can see why it is very popular. There are all the accessories available that you could ever hope for to build one into the perfect rifle for what you want to use it for, it is an extremely accurate semi-auto and it is available is a huge variety of calibers, both center and rimfire. My friend and I hunt with a 223 chambered Rock River Arms rifle when we go predator hunting, and that gun is deadly accurate at 200 - 300 yards, light weight and just plain nice to shoot. I am looking into my next deer rifle being one of the larger caliber AR platform rifles, Im looking into either a 260 or 308 chambered rifle. I know quite a few guys that own them, and not one of them is arming themself for any type of armegedon. You just have to look past the "assault weapon" and "black gun" propaganda spewed by the antis and realize that there is nothing inherently evil or malicious with those guns. -
The DC bans do not work at all, if they did, there would be no gun crime in DC. You do realize that after the DC bans were put into place, their murder rate increased by 51% while the national murder rate decreased by 35%, right? How exactly can you say the bans worked in any way other than the opposite way they were touted? The criminals have the guns there, not the law abiding citizens and it emboldens them. Face it, most guns that are in the hands of criminals do not get there from Joe Gunowner selling them to the criminals, they come in from gun runners and illegal arms dealers, theft, etc. Just because something leaves the factory legally, means nothing. All cars leave their factories legally, but how many are used illegally to commit various crimes ranging from speeding to murder? Sorry, but BS laws like microstamping, etc do nothing other than to harass legal gun owners.

no problem catskillkid, PM me your email address and Ill forward the email to you with the original header, etc so there is no question of the originality.

I heard at the coffe shop (from a minister whose son is a trooper) that they are having trouble reading the serial number on the ear tag and want to be sure which one it is. BAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA :D :D :D

It was a sarcastic reply to what Clifford and Bubba said. Try following along with the thread. Keep going with your conspiracy theory though, its great entertainment. ;D

Chevy, like Ive already said more than once, Id rather not have the extra hunters out there, I just dont think it will be the end of the world if it goes through. I wouldnt call early October "prime time" either. Oh, and by the way, Im far from rich, hunt lots of state land and the closest thing I have to a food plot is a tiny plot at my fathers that I use to experiment with seeds. If you want private land to hunt, knock on doors like the rest of us do, its not that bad to be told no sometimes. You never know, you might luck out and gain access to a large tract.

i hear the dec is proposing an oct 1st start to the 2012 season

I have one but that kinda defeats the whole scent free routine that I go through. I'm a nut when it comes to being scent free ;D If the deer can smell it, would they associate it with danger? I doubt it. I have done a ton of reading about them from people that have been using them in states where it is warm out and buggy during deer season, and havent heard about many issues. You could find out pretty easy well before season opens. -
I just read that. After Dec 31 2012, the current law will be out and the permanent regs will be going into place. My money is on the DEC making them legal for anyone in all open deer seasons, archery included. After all, according to the DEC, crossbows are bowhunting equipment.
-
So the deer dont get pushed by the small game guys with their dogs pushing through the woods and kicking the bushes? What about the 22 rounds being sent up into the trees at squirrels, etc etc? I just dont agree with the doom and gloom I guess. Believe me, id rather have the woods to myself, I just dont buy into the opinion that 4 days of ml and a few youth days are going to turn it into opening day of gun season.
-
I dont really understand the argument against guns in the woods for the early ml season. You guys do realize we already have turkey, waterfowl and small game hunters out there with us during bow season now, right? The ml hhnters wont be flinging 5 in a row like some of the shotgunners and rifle guys do.

Buy a Thermacell and forget the mosquitos -
I wish you luck. I made the mistake of buying a bow before I shot it the last time I bought one. I am not all that happy with it, and I will never make that mistake again. When I buy the next one, Ill be shooting the exact model before I buy it.
-
glad youre OK burt, gotta watch that stuff closely.
-
Are you saying the proposal says no magnificaton on the sights or that is your preference? Thats his preference, the proposal makes no mention of limiting scopes or sights on crossbows, and DEC has not shown any support for any such thing.
-
You didnt shoot one before you bought it?

Virgil, here is the link to the DEC page with the download of the pdf that explains the plan. http://www.dec.ny.gov/animals/7211.html -
Anyone who wants me to forward you the reply from the DEC, let me know.

So I finally got a response back from the DEC about the portable blind or stand. Here you all go.... First, the original email.... "I have a question regarding the possible legality of a deer blind or stand. I am thinking of building a stand and using a flatbed trailer as a base so that it would be easily portable. It would basically be a raised shooting house welded onto a trailer frame with removable legs to keep it steady once it is positioned. I would move it using a truck or ATV, and then disconnect it from the vehicle and leave it there (on private land). I would then be able to reposition it if needed and remove it from the area after the season is over. I know that hunting from a motorized vehicle is illegal, but the trailer would not have any type of motor attached to it. I figured it would be best to make sure with your department before I go ahead and build it. Thank You" Here is the response.... "Thank you for your email. In regards to your recent email, it is legal to hunt off the trailer you are constructing. However, it would be illegal is you kept the truck or ATV attached to it while hunting. I have copied the section of law that pertains to your question which you will find below. No firearm except a pistol or revolver shall be carried or possessed in or on a motor vehicle unless it is unloaded in both the chamber and the magazine, except that a loaded firearm which may be legally used for taking migratory game birds may be carried or possessed in a motorboat while being legally used in hunting migratory game birds, and no person except a law enforcement officer in the performance of his official duties shall, while in or on a motor vehicle, use a jacklight, spotlight or other artificial light upon lands inhabited by deer if he is in possession or is accompanied by a person who is in possession, at the time of such use, of a longbow, crossbow or a firearm of any kind except a pistol or revolver, unless such longbow is unstrung or such firearm is taken down or securely fastened in a case or locked in the trunk of the vehicle. For the purposes of this subdivision, motor vehicle shall mean every vehicle or other device operated by any power other than muscle power, and which shall include but not be limited to automobiles, trucks, motorcycles, tractors, trailers and motorboats, snowmobiles and snowtravelers, whether operated on or off public highways. Notwithstanding the provisions of this subdivision, the department may issue a permit to any person who is non-ambulatory, except with the use of a mechanized aid, to possess a loaded firearm in or on a motor vehicle as defined in this section, subject to such restrictions as the department may deem necessary in the interest of public safety, and for a fee of five dollars. Nothing in this section permits the possession of a pistol or a revolver contrary to the penal law. Thank you for your concern, Dispatcher 26 NYSDEC Office of Public Protection Dispatch Centers 877-457-5680 www.dec.ny.gov" Like I said in the first place, perfectly legal.

Seeing as the proposal mentions nothing about taking any time away from bowhunters, Im not sure what you mean. -
Right, proof that a captive cat was let loose in CT. That must mean theres a breeding population in NY right?
-
The JD dealer probably has a lot of bearings in stock ! : .... ;D Maybe
-
Interesting, the JD dealer told me not to worry about using water to clean the deck. If you think about it, grass is full of moisture and the bearings get wet anyway. Its not like you are submerging it. Dave, my father has a 60" deck on the back of his tractor (3 pt hitch) that is a 3 blade configuration, and Im not sure how he does his, Ill ask him.
