Im down in the poison ivy bottom this morning. Trying something a little different. Im standing in the middle of 5 trees that are bunched together. The trail I am watching is 25 yards across a creek. Ive seen a bunch of deer walking down that trail from @ 100 yards every time I have hunted down here so I figured I would try this once before gun opens. Seeing as I am on state land and this might be my last bow hunt, my 8 point rule is out the window lol.

Tree stand hunting: your safety device can kill you
WNYBuckHunter replied to Mr VJP's topic in General Chit Chat
Really? Your reading skills aren't up to par today then. You didn't see this... "If you're gonna hunt, get in shape to hunt." Looks like someone saying that you shouldn't hunt if you are overweight. Looks like your reading skills are not up to par here. Where does that statement say don't hunt? It says make sure you are physically capable of hunting so you don't die doing it. Ever see those Viagra commercials that say "see your Doctor to be sure you are capable of having sex"? Do you think that is telling people not to have sex? It's telling them to get in shape if they are going to have sex or you might die! Look, if you are not in shape, get in shape. You can do anything you want if you're out of shape, but you just might die doing it. If you don't have enough discipline to even attempt to get in shape, you are in a serious state of denial. I just went to a funeral for a woman I dated prior to meeting my wife. She was only 50. That's 5 years younger than me. She died of a massive heart attack. The first attack she ever had. Why? Because she had grown to 300 pounds and smoked. She was 5' 3" and 100 pounds when she was 19 years old. She's dead because she didn't care to even try to lose weight. And she wasn't even attempting to do anything physical like hunting. That's suicide, but done very slowly. Her husband and 3 kids now go on alone. My reading skills are just fine. Your original statement said covexly meant if you are not in shape dont hunt. Thanks for clarifying what you meant. Now, the real question is, what do you guys feel is out of shape? -
That it was posted on AT (archerytalk.com) as being shot in PA

Good luck to you too Geno! Im on the last few hours of work for the week, then I have the last 2 days of bow and the first 2 of gun to try and seal the deal on something! It would be cool to get a deer tomorrow or Friday with the bow, but I REALLY want to get my first deer on opening day of gun. Ive gotten deer the second day of gun season before, just havent ever gotten one on opening day.

I saw that somewhere as well. I also read another statistic that said 100% of people will die under some type of circumstances no matter how in shape they are. -
Why is that funny?

Sounds like a name given to a Nazi

Also, the government wont do anything about the lawsuit industry because they have to scratch the backs of their lawyer buddies. Think of how many politicians today were lawyers before they got into politics. -

This really should be in a different thread, but Ill play. You cant think of lawsuit costs to healthcare as just being what is paid to the lawsuits. The prices that doctors, hospitals and other healthcare companies charge have increased in large part to cover costs of malpractice and other insurances they must carry to protect themselves from every ambulance chasing lawyer out there. In turn, our health insurance rates skyrocket because of the rates that they have to pay out. If you are only going off of what a congressional committee says, then you are allowing the wool to be pulled over your eyes. Our government has an agenda, and their agenda is NOT to fix the problem, but to work on the symptoms and eventually push it to the point where we mere citizens cave in to government controlled healthcare. You have to look deeper, at the real problems at the root of the issue. -
Check on Craigslist. I see them on there quite a bit.

Its perfectly legal to sign one over though

Really? Your reading skills arent up to par today then. You didnt see this... "If you're gonna hunt, get in shape to hunt." Looks like someone saying that you shouldnt hunt if you are overweight. Insurance costs arent higher due to obesity, it has more to do with the frivolous lawsuit industry, but thats another topic. Looks like you are looking for an arguement..I will not take the bait though. On the other sub-subject, yes lawsuits are a major problem but the healthcare system is seriously effed up right now. There is a list of problems that directly corralate to obesity a mile long and WE pay for a large portion of the bill. I see it every single day where I work, trust me when I say the abuse of the system is sickening. My wife see's alot of morbidly obese people in her profession too, every single day, it is indeed a serious problem. Im not baiting you into anything, just pointing out what was said. I am also not saying that obesity is not an issue, its just not the biggest (no pun intended) reason for our screwed up healthcare insurance. -

Its not hurting me at all. The best alternative is for people to simply get the correct safety equipment for the activity. -
Kidney Belt that uses hand warmers
WNYBuckHunter replied to fasteddie's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
You could maybe use an Ace bandage and hold the warmers against yourself that way. -
Yeah, we will see. Its still early in the season.

I agree with what you just said, but ostracizing people for being overweight isnt the answer to the problem. Some people just plain dont care though. I do like the way you are blaming "trophy hunting" for yet another issue though. Tactful. -

Coyote article in Rochester D&C
WNYBuckHunter replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in New York State Hunting News
I have heard 3 separate stories of smaller dogs being snatched by 'yotes in my area. Ive lived there less than 2 months and have permission to hunt 'yotes on close to 3000 acres already. They are thick in the area and people are glad to see them killed. -
+1! I love the Sabres, but they suck this year lol.

Seriously, when is the last time you saw a guy that big in a tree stand? : Most tree stands are only rated to 300 lbs, 500 for the 2 person stands. Most guys that I know that are much over 250 dont bother with treestands, they hunt from blinds, just sit or still hunt. Besides, who are you guys to judge people for being overweight and wanting to enjoy hunting? No wonder why people are leaving the sport in droves with judgmental, holier than thou attitudes like that being thrown around all the time.
