  1. I have Thursday and Friday off this week, so Ill be hitting up the last two days of bow season on state land. Saturday Ill be at my Dad's property just waiting for one of the deer thats been teasing me all bow season to show its mug. Sunday Ill be on the new farm in my stand if its nice or in a blind if it isnt. Hopefully Ill get the chance to hang something up in the barn for the first time on opening day. The weather looks great and the 260 is hungry! ;D
  2. Right! Because the sales brochure says its true, must mean it will work that way in a hunting situation lol. : Dont fall for the lure guys. Eddie is fishing.
  3. Hey, welcome to the site and welcome to hunting! Were you able to get a DMP or two this year? Not limiting yourself to just a buck would certainly open up more opportunities. How much have you practiced with your shotgun?
  4. I passed on alot of small bucks this year, missed a little 8 and couldnt get it done on a big one. I have had next to no does in range, but have seen plenty of them. Hopefully they just keep on standing 150 yards out there in the field to feed. Come Saturday, it will be game over if they do. The 260 is warmed up and ready!
  5. I was out walking the new farm a bit this weekend and found a ton, and I mean a ton of fresh scrapes and a few nice rubs. Now at my dad's place, about 10 minutes north, I have yet to find a rub or a scrape, but I know there are a bunch of bucks around. I honestly dont think the peak of the rut has happened yet and I dont think the bucks have locked up either. I think they are more spread out this year, trying to find does in estrous. We will see what happens in the next 2 weeks. If the "experts" are correct, its gonna be a great gun season.
  6. Sorry to hear that Doc. My condolences to you and yours.
  7. Use a prussic setup to attach to while climbing and decending from your stand. They are easy to make. There's a thread in the DIY forum that shows you how to do it.
  8. They make a "Big Boy" model to fit ell, big guys lol. I think they will fit 3Xl and 4Xl and handle up to 400lbs.
  9. There are pressure relief straps that some of the harnesses have where you can get a foot into the strap and take the pressure off of the leg straps. The mentioned Woods Rescue One harness has a built in system that allows you to lower yourself slowly. I have been looking at that one lately, and am deciding whether I will replace my current harness with that one or a Gorilla Exotech after this season.
  10. After getting my Predator camo, I looked it over very closely and found it to be very good looking gear. The jacket has a nice dual zipper on it so that if you need to get into your pockets or something like that, you can partially unzip from the bottom up instead of unzipping all the way. It also has a draw string about half way up to help keep the cold out. It has a small pocket behind the snap flap instead of one inside the jacket so that you dont have to unzip to get to it. The hood is detachable, which is great because I cant stand hoods. The bibs are equally as nice as the jacket, and have adjustable straps, boot zippers and pockets. They are both water and wind proof and seem to be very warm. I had them on for less than 5 minutes when I tried them on and I was almost sweating being in the house. Ill have to wait till the weather cools down more before I can really put them to the test though.
  11. I doubt it, theres lots of yotes around and while the deer dont like the yotes, its a natural sound to them. I wouldnt think it would do anything other than kick them out for the time being.
  12. Ive had it happen before. I have done the grunt thing, which has never worked. A snort wheeze will work if you do it a few times. If you bark like a dog it works sometimes as well. Ive thought about taking my predator call and letting some coyote howls go with it to see if that gets them on their way.

    Bad News

Im with ya Doc, nothing for me yet, but I have taken a shot at one and had alot more in range that I let walk. Im not going in the woods today, Im gonna hang christmas lights instead and get things done around here. Ill get out Thursday and Friday this week. Maybe Ill get it done, but its looking like Ill get nothing with a bow again this year. Oh well, my Encore is sighted in and ready for next weekend.
  14. I guess you haven't been reading his replies. It is being defended like a proposed management plan and so I am responding accordingly. I am merely replying to what he is saying. And if the topic has evolved into the discussion of the 3 year doe only season (and I am not the one who brought that subject into this thread), I think that after 13 pages, it should not be too surprising if a topic evolves a bit. Since the doe only season was also mentioned as an "alternative to Antler Restriction" just as the title of this topic, I don't believe it is as far off topic as you are making it out to be. Doc Ive been keeping up with that thread, and what I see is hypothetical discussion based on a subject that was brought about with no intimations of it being a real life management plan. Then I see people asserting claims on that thread as well as others, that the original poster is trying somehow to push a plan based on the discussion and throwing out accusations of a "sell job". :
  15. Nice doe just came in to 60ish yards. Wouldn't come in though. A week from today they won't live through teasing me like this lol.
  16. 4 point at 10 yards. They are getting better. Lol
  17. Just had a button buck at 5 or 6 yards. What a morning so far.
  18. Man I hate when dst ends. Had me all messed up today. I got to my stand a little late and had to snort wheeze at a group of does so I could climb up. Once light came I saw 14 deer out in the field feeding. When they exited the field it was not on the trail by me lol. Had a spoke walk by at 10 yards in my shooting lane. Would have been a chip shot.
  19. I dont know, thats a great question. BTW, I never said I am 100% sold on his theory. It is very interesting to read about and try to correlate my deer observations with.
  20. Why? The perp was not hunting or participating in any legal activity. Its another crime. Anti's will associate it with hunters in general. I would agree. We don't know for sure whether this guy had a hunting license or not, but if he did, people could say a "hunter" shot a game warden and whether the guy was doing something illegal at the time or not probably wouldn't make much difference. Not like guys WITH hunting licenses don't get busted every year for all sorts of stunts! Thats like saying I have a fishing license and sunk a cruise ship, so that looks bad upon fishermen in general. I dont buy it.
  21. Id let him go probably, but thats just me.
