Get to the food sources, thats where they will be. I saw a crap load of deer out this evening on my way home from work. It was still light out and they were all over the fields, particularly the winter wheat and winter rye. Right near my house right now is flooded in the timber bottoms, and the deer are pushed out of there for now, so that may account for them moving a bit more right now.

Ive seen quite a few predator hunters use them because they do less damage to the furs.

Just be careful, dont want to hear about anyone getting shot. Too many incidents this year already.

Im thinking of putting mine out after season is over, but Ill be using them to look for yotes. I didnt have them out much this year, pulled them before bow season. Ive started noticing some things happening with the deer patterns since I started with the trail cams, and I must say, Im not happy with it. I might end up getting rid of them or using them alot differently.

I saw 3 guys on state land in light brown Carhartts last weekend. Im sorry, but blaze or not with that color clothes during gun season is just not smart. If you choose to do it, thats your choice, but dont be crying when some unsafe idiot that you dont know is there flings a round or two at you because your pants are the same color as a deer.

I barely remember yesterday let alone "a while back" ..........I barely remember yesterday let alone "a while back" ... Sheesh , I guess I am repeating myself ! http://www.downsouthhuntingforums.com/images/smiles/help.gif[/img] HAHAHAHA

I wouldnt wear brown pants, especially when hunting from the ground. You know how some people shoot at color or movement, right? Deer are brown. Put color and movement together and there are people out there that will pull the trigger. Not quite as likely with camo or green. Thats my opinion though.

That squirrel video is neat, but its nothing more than hands off training if you think about it. If the squirrel was really smart, it wouldnt take 2 weeks and gradual training to get it to do that routine. Im not saying that deer are stupid or lack any intelligent thought, they just arent smart in the way that some insinuate.

They catch on because of the increase in pressure. Remember, every time you go into the woods before season starts to put up your treestand, scout, check trail cams, etc etc, you put pressure on the deer that wasnt there before. They start to notice patterns and make themselves scarce.
-
Not really Geno, they get eaten up by squirrels and other rodents pretty quickly. Thats why you have to get to them quick, while the snow is melting and right after that. They blend in pretty good too, so you might walk right by them if you arent paying attention. Shoot, Ive walked right by them while I was looking for them before.

I would get some smaller pieces of it and a fender or two from the junkyard to play around with before you spend a ton of money on it and end up ruining it. -
NY conservation fund being Raped still by crooked poloticians

Im pretty sure the article says that nothing has been taken from it yet, but they are talking about it, which I believe they have done in the past. The part I like is the difference between what Patterson and the comptroller believe the budget gap to be. Its not a small difference lol. Sounds to me like Patterson cant see what the real situation is. Oops, did I make fun of him again? -
West Ft. Ann Deer jackings & Tresspassing Problems

Thats a pretty ignorant statement. It is illegal to shoot or shoot at a trespasser unless you are defending yourself from imminent danger. Ill tell you one thing, if you shoot at me on purpose, youd better hit me because you just gave cause to defend myself, and I wont miss you. -
Didnt you post this a while back Eddie? You feelin ok?
-
If its a non native or invasive species, you woulndt use your deer tag on it, you wouldnt use any tag on it. Your best bet would be to report it to DEC as soon as you can, they would want to have a look, then they would advise you on what to do, probably just to take it to the butcher unless there was something wrong with the animal.

I usually dont start till late January or early February. I like to do it on warm days when the snow is melting or on a sunny day after a fresh snowfall. I look for deer yarding areas, field edges and along deer trails. Take your binos with you, its alot more efficient than trying to cover all of the area on foot.

I can almost guarantee you wont leave that bait alone for very long hahahaha. Its hard for me to leave it alone sometimes too.

Doc, you didnt see this post apparently. Plenty more instances of similar comparison have been posted in previous threads on the subject. Saying things like "imaginary dictiontaries" and "play the Clinton game..." arent brow beating? Really? Sounds like brow beating to me. Twist it how you want, but a crossbow IS archery equipment and in the same group as a bow. I didnt come up with the classification, so you are just shooting the messenger here.
-
I agree, hard to tell just from the photos you posted. Maybe it started as a gun shot wounded deer that coyotes went after. In any case, its good that you put it down and didnt let all of the meat go to waste or let the deer suffer.
-
He didnt take a third, and you can still shoot does if you have the tags.

Wild Justice on National Geographic - Nat Geo - New Show

I saw the previews but didnt pay attention to when it was on. Ive been so busy lately, I havent really had much time for TV. I should throw it on my DVR list. -
I didnt pull out an "imaginary dictionary" and come up with anything. Ive posted the definitions of crossbows in the past, use google and look it up for yourself. FITA and most of the other major archery organizations consider a crossbow to be archery equipment. I dont see you saying the same thing when someone gives a spin on the definition of a crossbow as a gun. I wonder why? Pretty convenient that you start your brow beating only when someone disagrees with your opinion. : Like I said, Id like to see all archery equipment in archery season.

I have never seen a shot that blew a 10" diameter chunk of skin and meat off the back side of a deer.....lol. Also, each of the other wounds were long (3 to 4 inches long) and narrow ..... nothing like a slug hole. Also I ruled out archery wounds because of the number of them. Also, the age of these wounds look older than anything made since gun season began. Actually, I have seen wounds of this kind before back when we used to have sheep and dogs got into them. These are tearing wounds not punctures which is consistant with canine attacks. Doc I dont think you understand what I meant. If you hit that dear's rear end at a good angle, it could do that pretty easilly. From the picture it looks like an enterence hole at an angle, and then the slug tore a hole on exit, which really wouldnt have been that far from the enterance. The other straight mark wouldnt be from a slug that entered the body of the deer, thats not what I said, but if the slug nicked it or should I say grazed it, it could do that. I dunno, just what it looked like from the pics to me.
