Haleys first deer rifle
WNYBuckHunter replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Haley sighted in her rifle today. There’s a 2 shot group on the right of the bullseye and a 3 shot group to the left. She’s running Hornady American Whitetail 139gr. Should be just fine for hunting. Pics taken shooting at 50, groups shot at 100.- 35 replies

Anti Bacteria Products, Attractants & Cover Scents
WNYBuckHunter replied to landtracdeerhunter's topic in General Chit Chat
I use Dead Down Wind. I dont think it completely gets rid of scent, just cuts down on it. I also started using that deer herd in a stick stuff on my boots just before I walk in. I had deer sniffing where I walked last year and they dint become alarmed at all, so Ill call that stuff a win. -
It was an internet find, I just remembered a thread on another site full of funny trail cam pics and grabbed it from there. Ive never captured anything that funny, which Im thankful for. It was taken on public land in PA. Wait, doesnt Pygmy hunt in PA each year......hmmmmmm.....

Yeah for that price, I need to let mine grow and harvest the seed to sell. I paid $11 per 50lb bag last year according to the spreadsheet I keep. I couldnt afford to plant it at that price, I broadcast it at 150lb per acre.
-
I just broadcast it with my ATV and a tow behind spreader.

Someone Just Asked About New Season Dates
WNYBuckHunter replied to DirtTime's topic in General Hunting
They arent pinned, the main page just displays the "published" articles. The latest ones "published" are what it shows. -
I check mine a few times a year. Ive found quiver screws loose, but thats been it so far. I put a little loc-tite on them if I find a loose one.

Both. Turkeys love it too

Thats hard to say. It will usually sprout in a week and a half or so.

Putting in new food plots
WNYBuckHunter replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
I also agree that there are some benefits of going no till, but I am making no money off of anything I plant, and if I have a bad year due to drought its not going to sink my ship, so it quickly becomes a cost/benefit thing, and just for a couple of small food plots, it would never even out financially. Now, I could buy a no-till setup and start a business putting in food plots, but that not something I am interested in doing. -
Putting in new food plots
WNYBuckHunter replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
So then wouldnt discing or using a harrow do the same thing as well? I dont have the $ to buy a no till drill, so what other option would I have? These areas are never going to be anything other than food plots or allowed to go back to brush/woods, so what would it really be harming? -
If you can do a week or two earlier than 9/1, it would be best.

I love grilling zucchini and summer squash. I just marinate them in a little italian dressing and then slap them on the grill. They are great fried too.
-
He doesnt know what hes talking about. Ive pulled drag harrows twice as wide as that one with my ATV without any issues.

Putting in new food plots
WNYBuckHunter replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
I dont Usually plant till late July, early August. I would Use the tiller like I normally Do, but I have No idea how many rocks we have at this place, so I will Plow and disc this year and see how it is. If the rocks aren’t bad, I’ll use the tiller next year. -

How About Some Rain
WNYBuckHunter replied to landtracdeerhunter's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Well we got a bunch of rain last night and this morning. -
I’ve planted both in the past, and I have Never seen a difference in how the deer use it. We have also planted triticale, and they hammered that too. The reason I ise rye is because it does a little better with less or no fertilizer than wheat does. That being said, I don’t pay attention to how they eat it once it’s fully grown. I’m more concerned with how they use it in the fall and winter. Just my experience.
