Put a little meat in the freezer this afternoon and my daughter was able to assist on a short track... not sure how this doe went anywhere, but, she did.

I’d have to think underlying health issue. Infection within the head somewhere.

I shot a doe on opening day last year that had her jaw hanging as well. It’s too small of a “kill zone” and being off by a couple inches can cause suffering. That deer will not die of blood loss, it will die of starvation or sepsis.

Beer is one of my things. I hate to say it, but, I’m a beer snob. I’m always happy to share anything I have. Beer is for friends, you’re all my friends and always welcome!

@biggamefish it’s something really screwy about where I live. I can’t get a compass to function either, always 88 degrees off.

It’s no fireball, but, is it any help at all?
-
It’s in the rifle and gun hunting section.

Not a deer seen in my little section of 7A. I did have a fisher pass through, second time I have seen one on this property.
-
Not quite time for me to get up and go here, but, I’m awake.
-
Same to you, grampy. Shoot straight.
-
So... any good bucks on the cam?
-
I’m with grampy on this one. I think that safe and ethical shooting light is a bit before sunrise. If I had a 150” in front of me at 5 minutes before, I know what I’m doing and feel I know what the vast majority would do as well. Anyway, my predictor is 6:13 and I’ll hear 65 shots tomorrow before the downpour.

No deer yet. Lots of shots, some squawking ravens, a pileated woodpecker, and some squirrel on squirrel action.
-
Quiet snacks... my daughter loves a sucker or two and it usually buys me another 30 minutes or so.
-
Happy to read the great news! You will both continue to be in my prayers.
-
Agreed, two different deer.
-
Back at it for my last chance with archery equipment this year. To everyone else out here with me, good luck!
-
I’ll be settled in about an hour before official sunrise time. Gives me time to get things how I want them and the everyone else around me time to get in and be the last ones to push the deer around.

I’d go the removable route... bag or plastic wrap.

can you explain why hunters would want to shorten gun season?
Zuke replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in Deer Hunting
For me, it’s not about making it easy to shoot a “monster buck” every year with ease. Let’s face it, if every woodlot had a dozen 5 year old bucks, they would still not be easy to kill. To me it’s about herd management and a balance in nature. I don’t want to force everyone to pass on a buck that would make them happy, I feel like that would trample rights and freedoms, which I know every one of us enjoys. I would just like to find a way to put our herd in check, which where I live and hunt, it is not. If you want to shoot a spike horn, please feel free. But why must people shoot multiple bucks a season? -
Isn’t it terrible, TCIII?

I have noticed a lot of people on this forum stating how they had “no sign of the rut” this year and I firmly believe, as ccondid1 stated, this is a herd health issue. If the buck/doe ratio was closer, many of you may see a more active rut. If the bucks have a dozen does for every one of them, no need exists to waste energy seeking, they’re easy to find and with relatively no competition. -

This would make more/older bucks available to everyone the following year, not just bow hunters. How would they be only available to the the bow hunters?
