Not alone. I killed my facebook account over a decade ago. Killed twitter over a year ago in protest. Only thing I have is LinkedIn, and totally passive there, never done anything other than accept links from other people (professional colleagues mostly). No social media footprint for this boy. Well... there is this forum.... Wonder just how far they will try to go. As far as legally possible, I imagine.

Why is a Rem 700 better than a Ruger American?
jmark replied to jmark's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Thanks for the replies, very helpful. For those who believe Rem quality has declined, if one were leaning in that direction and thinking used, is there a break point where that decline started? How far back do you have to go to avoid it? I'll have a look at Tikka and Savage, thanks. jm -
Assuming .308. Maybe I should ask, why is the Rem nearly twice the price? Maybe it's a dumb question. I have a Rem 700 and love it. Thinking of picking up a second .308, so my son and I can hunt together using the same ammo (I generally would carry my 03A3 in 30-06). The Ruger looks pretty decent. ? TIA jm

Reported both of mine late this season. So far, no... wait, what are those black limos doing out front...?
-
Lost all of mine when I moved to New York. Weird how that happened.

From the DEC website - Q: Can I take my young child (or an unlicensed person) with me while I am deer hunting? A: Yes, and we highly recommend it! Just make sure the child (or unlicensed person) is not hunting or assisting in any aspect of the hunt (like driving deer). Bring an extra pair of binoculars and plenty of snacks. Have a good time! http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/8310.html

I bought a new Mercedes a few years ago. Opened the hood one day to check the oil, and couldn't find the dipstick. Search and search, finally dig out the manual. The freakin thing doesn't *have* a dipstick. The "computer" tells you when it needs oil. Couldn't believe it.

So good news so far this season no accidental shootings

Yeah. And Andrew Cuomo is the voice of Upstate New York. And there's a bill in the State Legislature that would allow searches of your "social media accounts" in connection with handgun applications. Just to mention one of many... Isn't life peachy? https://www.syracuse.com/state/index.ssf/2018/11/cuomo_voice_upstate_ny.html -

Buddy asked me, "Hey, do you smoke after sex?" Thought about it a minute, and replied, "I don't know, I never looked." Also... for the record, I never drink and drive. I pull over, take a swig, then go on.

Wow, I haven't seen Olympia beer in ages - they still make it? That sucker was big. I think I'd go back out looking for him. Had to be a bear, no? Way too big for a cat. -
Was in his shop yesterday. Wow! He has an amazing collection of trophies.

My 14 year old son's first buck. Modest 6 pointer, but he was very happy. Shot with a Rem 700 .308 at about 75 yards at 8:45 a.m. yesterday. Short gun season for him.

What time you getting up for opening day tomorrow?
jmark replied to Hunter007's topic in General Chit Chat
Boy and I went to bed at 7:30. I woke up at 1:00 and never went back to sleep (damnit). Boy snored til 5:00, when the alarm went off. Were in blind by 6:15. Shot buck at 8:45. Dropped at processor, picked up cape, dropped at taxi, had lunch at the Tiny Diner, home by 4:00. And that includes picking up a half cord of firewood in the truck. A good day. -
Not that anybody cares about Westchester County (ie Gun Owner Hell), but it took me 2 1/2 hours to get home from work last night, for what is normally a 15 min commute even with a little traffic. Anyone know the status in 4H? jm

My gramma used to make chicken and dumplings, where we lived in rural North Carolina when I was a kid. I still remember them as being absolutely delicious, it was a real treat to go to her house. Haven't had any like that in many many years. Would love a picture!

Beautiful story (and pics) and a wonderful tribute to your dad. You have to know he was very proud of you and all of your family. I read your story in a sort of in-between state - my father, who taught me to shoot gun and bow many years ago, just turned 81 and his health is failing; at the same time, my son, who is 14 (and worships his grampa), hunts with me and just took his first deer youth weekend. If we are lucky, we have these experiences and bonds to carry us forward. Please accept my condolences, and thank you for sharing your story.
