I gotcha beat - I left the damn bolt at home.

Just wondering - I had been under the impression using a rope cocking device would result in a more even cocking. IOW distributing the pull more evenly on the string, reducing the likelihood that the string might be slightly "tighter" on one side. Don't know if that could be relevant, and maybe it's just nonsense. But I didn't think "cocked is cocked"...

This is a very good question. I'm guessing that the 10th Amendment is part of the equation - it limits the right of the federal government vis-a-vis states, to those powers expressly granted by the Constitution. I have not read the various case law on this, but it certainly comes immediately to mind as relevant. I think more relevant is the political realities of the day. The (current) federal government has tried, in various ways, to force state and local governments to comply with federal immigration law; however, most of these efforts have been shot down by the federal judiciary. The plaintiffs challenging these efforts have "forum shopped" by bringing their cases in Circuits known to be heavily stacked with liberal judges - namely, anything in the Ninth Circuit (eg, California, Washington, Oregon, Hawaii). We all know how that has played out. We do have a rapidly changing federal judiciary, and if the new Senate majority holds I think that will continue. And we have a "new" US Supreme Court, so we may begin to see some different outcomes in these cases (ultimately). On the state level... well, what can ya say? I recall right after the (un)SAFE Act was passed, some upstate counties said they would not enforce it. I don't know what the current status of that is on the "street level". (Does anyone here?) But here, we obviously have a leftist state government, at not only the executive but now also totally at the legislative level. As for the courts... the Court of Appeals, our highest court, is made up of seven judges... every single one whom was appointed by King Andrew. The likelihood of any local or county successfully "opting out" of a state law strikes me as pretty low. I do seem to recall some talk at the legislative level about modifying the (un)SAFE Act to state that it only applies to certain downstate counties. I don't know what ever became of that talk (if anything). Seems to me it would be worth pursuing in the context of the now-inevitable (un)SAFE Act II. jm

That's concerning. I would think DEC would be interested in this deer. Is there a lawful way to take the deer, and deliver it DEC (I mean without wasting a tag)?

Would a pie bald be that scrawny? I mean, just because it was a pie bald?

First year using it but this Foodsaver seems pretty darn good so far, and cheap - https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0044XDA3S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and it came with some bags and roll.

After hating iPhones for years, I got the S8. And met... Bixby. And never have I hated any "app" as much. And apparently you can't delete or disable it. All these "cell phone companies" are really in the data business. And of course, so are the browser and email providers. It's an ugly reality, contrary to everything I ever believed about privacy and independence. I recently "downgraded" to a J7. So far, it seems at least better than the more expensive phones. Battery lasts longer, too. But frankly, I'd go back to a flip phone if I could get basic web searching and mapping on it....

I have one. There seems to be some kind of issue with texting from Samsung to Apple. Doesn't happen all the time and I have no idea why it does. I blame it on the companies and their idiotic intellectual property arguments. As much as I hate the idea of more govt regulation, I think we need some enforced standardization in the telecommunications industry.... FWIW, I've tried ALL of the cell phone brands, and they ALL suck.

Hey thanks for the reply. Maybe you could PM me about this? Budget is a little tight this time of year, but it's a long-term interest. jm

I don't really care what the weather is like. I'll be at moho81's house at 4:45 a.m. I'll hunt deer in the afternoon.

Be careful. I had a thing I did a few times for friends. I take a stock Ruger 10/22. Explain how it works, what it is, its history, that countless thousands of young people cut their teeth on them, show 5 and 10 round mags, etc. I ask, "Do you think this is an assault rifle?" Universal no. Then I undo one screw, remove the stock, and put the gun in a "black rifle" stock made for a 10/22. Folding stock, foregrip, etc. Then I point out to them - this is the exact same rifle, it can't do anything it couldn't do with the other stock, but now it's an illegal "assault rifle." Then I had one person say, "Well if it can be converted to an assault rifle that easily, then it should be banned." I stopped doing this little demonstration. You can't fix stupid. Nor can you fix the un-American and mentally disturbed hatred of guns so prominent among the "left" today. -
Synthetic or wood stock what do you like better .

Of the 30 or so rifles in my safes, at least 20 are wood. Fell like a klutz on a rough rocky incline once, banged up a very nice wood stock. Grrr. Synthetic for me for hunting now. -

This. I already hated the place. Since the anti-gun lobbying, the refusal to sell rifles and shotguns to men and women old enough to die in battle for this country, the refusal to sell AR platform rifles or standard capacity magazines at all, the destruction of thousands of fine AR rifles (pointless and an obvious PR stunt)... all of this on top of already being a lousy place to do business and hurtful to the LGS's of the world... nope. No more. As for protesting the SAFE Act by refusing to buy a hunting license.. that was a bad idea to begin with. No one - NO ONE - would care. In fact, it would probably backfire as the left would say it shows no one needs a hunting license, hunting should be banned or curtailed, etc. Plus it would hurt us, with no recourse. Simply boycotting a company that opposes everything we believe it does not hurt us - we can buy elsewhere. And I do, and will. -
Culver - wondering about that woodstove setup. Looks like a Vogelzang? What is it sitting on? Almost looks like marble tiles. And... how did you deal with going thru the roof? Section outside looks interesting. Feel free to PM is concerned about hijacking thread - I was kinda thinking this is all relevant, but understand if others disagree. jm

Then my personal opinion is, you need power (not a generator, they are annoying as hell, require maintenance, make noise, use fuel, are unreliable for long term solutions). Just my 2 cents.

I paid a little over $5k for this prefab "barn" (made by the Amish in PA), delivered (in Greene County). There are sellers of these things all over the place. They can get in pretty tight for deliveries (surprisingly). It's 12 by 28 feet. We put in insulation (maybe $300) and T1-11 paneling on the interior walls (another grand). Easy to do a makeshift "kitchen" (camp stove). Easy to heat with a Big Buddy propane heater (will probably install a wall version and a 100 pound outside tank ($250 for both). We're putting in a wall at 10 feet back from the front "barn doors", insulating it, so tools and equipment go in the first part, living quarters in the back. We did run power to the thing, although I was sure tempted not to. Now that we're "on the grid", I will have a well dug (under $5k) and a septic system put in (close to $10k). Propane instant water heater, cheap used sink and toilet... I'll have less than $25k in the whole thing, *with* well and septic.

Wow! Here he'd definitely be the tallest kid in his grade. My son is second tallest at 5'11" (9th grade). I bet he doesn't get bullied!

Good lord. I though my son was a monster at size 11 (he's 14). 15? How big is this kid? To the OP, thanks for the head's up. New TS in my area, I'll probably pick up a pair at that price, just to wear. Anyone know their policy if they're out of a size? Do you get a rain check?

We are in lower Westchester, 10 minutes from the Bronx line, and our house is 250 yards from the train station. For years, we would get literally hundreds. They would take the train up, or sometimes come in cars (with parents mostly), and do our neighborhood. I used to literally fill a (new) garbage can with candy (yeah, it wasn't a cheap holiday). We would be up late, trying to make sure we were nice to all the trick-or-treaters. Last couple of years, it's just died out for some reason. Maybe they found a new neighborhood? We get maybe 30-40 over the whole evening. About 2/3 of those are people we know. [shrug]. Well, it's cheaper and I get to bed earlier...
