You would think a simple question would have a simple answer.....Not so. The year was 1968 which was my first year as a deer hunter. I was invited to hunt with my best friend and his family. In those days you needed 4 hunters to apply for a party permit. And I needed to hunt with an adult because I was only 16. So, they needed me and I needed them. On our very first drive 3 of us walked toward 2 standers. Toward the end of the drive I noticed the other 2 drivers in a pasture, so I walked over there to see what was going on. About the time I got to them one of the standers shot 3 times. A 7 pt. buck emerged from the woods and ran several hundred yards across the open pasture towards us. The veteran hunter told us not to move and not to fire until he gave the word. I can still remember seeing the bucks ears flopping as it lopped to us. The older hunter gave the word and all three of us fired as one. The buck collapsed on the spot, but attempted to get back up. We again fired as one and it was knocked down for good. Initial shot had hit one of the back legs. Our volleys had placed 5 slugs into its' rib cage and 1 into its' neck. One of our party was home on leave from Vietnam and only had one day to hunt, so he volunteered to use his tag on the deer. I like to think that if I had been in the pasture alone, I would have taken the deer. Truth is, if I hadn't been there they would have easily filled the tag without me. So, that's the first deer I ever shot, but I don't consider it my first deer. Our party was done hunting around 3PM that day, so I decided to still hunt my way home from their farm. It started to drizzle and noticed movement as I emerged from some pines. A little 5 pt. was just walking along about 30 yards away, trying to figure out how to cross a fence. I took dead aim on his lungs and drilled him with a spine shot! (How did that happen?) LOL I would be the first to admit that just about everything that happened that day was mostly luck.

The state wide seasons for bear and deer do not run concurrently in PA. I believe the gun season for PA deer opens next Monday. There are a few areas where there is an extended bear season concurrent with the deer season, but they haven't opened yet. If he ran into the bear while deer hunting he was deer hunting out of season.

There is a woman who stands on a street corner near me and claims to be homeless. (She is to ugly for sex). I have it on good authority that she averages $400 per day, 5 days a week. She does not "work" evenings or weekends. Has been doing this for the last three years and the libtards here continue to give her money. At the end of the day she is picked up by a late modeled SUV and goes to her rather upscale home..... Christine Blasey Ford pocketed over $600,000 from one GFM account and over $200,000 from another one to offset her security expenses (public knowledge available on the GFM site). Man, I really feel sorry for her...…..NOT! I read an article once that explained that if someone could break the world record for largemouth bass they could easily pocket a quick million bucks! I would not beg for funds to have anything mounted, but given that so many fools are easily parted from their money, it makes me wondered why I ever worked!

I use them to mark my territory.

They did. I see one news report that the buck will be displayed at Scheels. (They are a sporting goods chain in mostly the mid-West with 27 locations). I must admit that I have never heard of them.

I learned of this buck on Fox News. He has a video on FB with 10,000 views and 600 likes and climbing. The info I have is that it was a free range hunt and the buck was well known by the public. If this is a scam his stones are a lot bigger than mine!
-
He wants to display the buck in a public place- maybe a sporting goods store.

Joshua Gawrysiak ended his 5 year quest last Saturday with the taking of a 19 pt. buck near Chippewa Falls Wisconsin. He shot the beast with his Matthews Compound Bow at about 20 yards. The big boy was following a doe..... Joshua believes the buck was 5 or 6 years old. He has set up a GOFUNDME account in an attempt to raise $3,000 for a full body mount.

I am looking into buying keyed alike trigger locks. I have little experience in this area. Wondering if others could share there recommendations (pro or con).

I know a guy that took a nice bear from a vineyard- in an area not known for bear.

What a difference between 2 deer
Bigfoot 327 replied to Water Rat's topic in Hunting Related Pictures
My guess would be lack of sex...…………. -
This is a cruel joke! My only possible incentive for letting little bucks walk is my desire to shoot a larger deer. I live on the western edge of the Tompkins County Deer Management Focus area where hunters will be allowed to take 2 antlerless deer per day from January 12th 2019 through January 31st. That's a limit of 40 baldies. Male or female. Given that many bucks drop their racks before or during this time period it is highly likely that the young buck I pass up will be harvested as a "doe". Again, there is no protection for trophy buck that makes it through the regular season and loses his rack before February. DEC doesn't care about the age structure in my area. They just want fewer deer.

Are you sure that the crazy guy down the road did this? Years ago my wife and I were lucky enough to take first place in a major fishing derby. When we came home from work the following Monday I found that the windshield on our boat had been shattered while we were at work. I spent days trying to figure out who would do such a dirty deed.....I really couldn't come up with anyone with a serious axe to grind. About a month latter a neighbor mentioned that she had chewed out a neighborhood kid for hitting golf balls with a baseball bat near her house! Eventually I found a golf ball in my flower bed near the boat. Case closed. In this day and age there are anti's that will screw up you vehicle just because of your NRA sticker.... Go to the crazy guy and explain to him that you have had some problems with vandalism and pay him a case of beer or two to watch your property!

Amazed at the amount of guys still spending money at dicks/ F&S
Bigfoot 327 replied to rob-c's topic in General Chit Chat
No they can't. The dictionary defines an assault rifle as "a rapid fire, magazine fed automatic rifle designed for infantry use". These were never sold at Dick's. The gun control freaks and media that don't know their butts from a hole in the ground want the public to believe that AR platform rifles are the same as full fledged weapons of war. This is pure propaganda. Before I was 21 I carried a machine gun in the jungle for my country. Now young adults less than 21 can't purchase firearms at Dick's for any legal purpose. This is an attack on our civil rights! By the way, a couple of years ago the legislature came close to banning 50 caliber rifles in NYS. The bill was blocked by an 8 to 7 vote in committee. If your TC Venture is a .50 you are lucky that you are still allowed to possess it. (Their intent was to ban sniper rifles of that caliber even though one has never been used illegally in NY). -

I don't and won't shop at Dick's and Field and Stream. Sad that sportsmen continue to stab themselves in the back. I have a few predictions: 1) Cuomo will be re-elected because sportsmen are ignorant or don't care. 2) The republicans which have been protecting us from many gun control measures will lose control of the NYS senate in the next election. Because sportsmen won't bother to vote. 3) Come January we will see Safe Act 2 rammed down our throats- cause sportsmen didn't care. It will make the original safe act seam harmless in comparison. 4) I have never been a quitter, but come the Spring the house I grew up in will be for sale and I will be so outa NY! -
Illegal to buy or sell these tags!
-
DEC originally posted the info on October 22 and I posted it on here October 24th. You obviously missed it. With the tags available tomorrow DEC probably just wanted to remind everyone. Thanks for reminding us!

Only deer that I have had go bad on me was one that I didn't hang. Never again. I don't cut up my own deer, but they are hanging in my processors cooler within hours of being taken.

I'm 6-3 tall and most of my signs are placed as high on trees as I can reach. I think that cuts down on spur of the moment vandalism. Then again, I really haven't had any problems.

I once saw a large buck swimming from west to east across Owasco Lake while trolling there. When it hit shore it tried to go straight up a very steep bank (almost a cliff). It made it up about 2/3 of the way up a fell backwards to the beach. We laughed our butts off. He could have gone about 100 yards south and avoid the steep bank, but he only moved about 20 feet south and tried again. We doubted he would make it there either, but he was determined and he made it. Bucks were rutting like crazy that morning ( I saw 6 or 7 chasing on my drive to the lake). Another time I was trolling Canandaigua Lake during late April. Another boat called via radio and informed us that there was a turkey in the water ahead of us. It was probably 1/2 mile from shore when we spotted it and it took it quite a while to make it to shore. It struggled to leave the water and it was obvious that it was exhausted. Late April surface temps are still in the 40's. I would not doubt that it died later from hypothermia. Never figured out how/why the turkey was in the lake. It was dead calm that morning- the lake was flat as glass. Perhaps the bird flew down at first light and mistook the lake for a field...…..

As far as I know, tax rolls are a matter of public record in NYS and are available online through county, town or Image Mate websites. Every property I have ever researched I have been able to find. So if you have some specific properties in mind (or are just curious what your neighbors are paying) it's pretty easy to find out exact assessments, exemptions and tax rates per thousand. Tax maps are also available there which can be useful in seeing property lines.

Why cell service so bad in Adirondacks?
Bigfoot 327 replied to Hunter007's topic in General Chit Chat
Cell phone towers are aimed at population centers. So cell phone service is sparse in the Adks. There are parts of the Finger Lakes that have zero cell phone service, so if break down in your boat, you need a radio to call for assistance, because a cell isn't going to work. I used to work where there were 5 manager/supervisors who were on call 24/7 for things like snow removal and water main breaks. We had to have service with 3 different carriers to insure we each had service at work and at home.
