  1. Finally received my "doe" tags after 16 business days. Looking at the licensing web site I see that the other tags haven't even been printed yet....guess I will have to do it myself.
  2. In the meantime you have a governor that ignores the Constitution and daily stomps on your rights. Puts in a state hiring freeze but hires high priced staff at will for his personal gain. Puts in a 14 day quarantine for travelers to a long list of states, but ignores it when he goes to Atlanta. As Tom Petty once said: "It's good to be King".
  3. 18 days and counting and still no tags........
  4. Still no tags yet. This gets old every year...........
  5. As one of the married guys in my basic training platoon said: " I know she's home screwing other guys, but she's charging the hell out of them". LOL. Everybody has their price (even if they don't realize it). I would say the lady in question did quite well for herself.
  6. Some of my mail forwarded from Florida takes a month to get here. Some 5 days. Go figure.
  7. I saw one flock recently in a clover field (Schuyler County, North of Watkins Glen). Hen had one poult with her that was about the size of a grouse and she also had 5 smaller ones that were dove sized. Remember that DEC wants to hear about turkey poult sightings during the month of August. The have an online form on their website,
  8. Maybe 150. A big bear wouldn't have hardly any daylight between his belly and the ground!
  9. The NYS requirements are available online on the DEC website (state forests section I believe) as part of the bidding process for logging, timber stand improvement, habitat improvement and such. The requirements are quite specific and detailed and often tailored to local conditions.
  10. I wouldn't use hay bales, it might contain seeds you don't want in your plot. Use straw if possible.
  11. Harris supports gun buybacks to get "weapons of war" off our streets. She also supports free health care for illegals. Not my definition of a moderate.
  12. TreeGuy, you got lucky and found a fool. I researched properties in your area and G-Man was spot on. The sale he mentioned was more typical of values in your area. That being said, a property is only worth what someone is willing to pay. I wish I had your luck!
  13. I have been curious how well this Lifetime license thing would work now that I am a Florida resident. I should not have doubted NY's ability to screw it up. When I signed in online I quickly saw that DEC still had my old NY address, even though I changed it months ago. Lord only knows where they sent my new license/tags. I have zero confidence in the USPS forwarding them, it takes up to 30 days for them to forward my Florida mail to my summer NY address. On the brighter side, I was selected for a tag in 8T and another in 7R. Looking forward to a Thanksgiving hunt.
  14. The NRA has been one of the most effective organizations helping to elect pro gun candidates bar none. We are in the fight of our lives to keep our firearms. If you don't believe it read the DEMS platform which will gut the Second Amendment. Biden is actively calling for another assault weapons ban. Mike Bloomberg is spending his billions to take away your guns. I ask those of you that are not supporting the NRA what you are doing to keep your guns? When the swat team knocks on your door, it's too late to develop a plan. I hope you are donating directly to pro gun candidates if you're not donating to the NRA. Money is the ammo in this fight and without it we are going to lose! A year from now you may well wish you had sent in a few bucks.
  15. Decades ago I still hunted Summerhill right after a fresh snow. Lots of fresh hunter tracks and little deer activity. Eventually I worked my way farther from the road than any of the other hunters and started seeing deer. I got a glimpse of one (the body, not the head) that was larger than any I have ever seen. Looked like a cow! It walked behind a blowdown and I was going to shoot when it cleared a big tree. I waited and it never showed. It turned out it had turned and walked straight away from me with the tree blocking my view. I moved away from that area the following summer and never made it back there.......
  16. One thing that I have not seen in any of the NY mountain Lion discussions is the fact that if there was any sort of mountain lion, cougar, panther (whatever you want to call them) population is that they would be showing up as road kill. Florida has a small panther population, perhaps 130 to 250 animals, that is monitored closely by the FWC. Already this year, 4 or 5 have been hit by vehicles and one was hit by a train. In 2016 a record 34 were killed in collusions. This is a huge number considering how small the population is. This demonstrates that vehicle collisions are a significant mortality factor in panther populations. No reason to believe that if they were present in any sort of numbers in NY they would not be showing as road kill.
  17. I was at the bear check station in Wellsboro a few years back when a fellow brought in a 640lb. bear (I witnessed the biologists weighing it). I remarked to the lucky hunter than it must have been a real chore dragging it out. He said: " Heck no. I shot it in my cornfield. Drove my tractor over to it and picked it up with the bucket".
  18. 14 years is a long time for a woman to go without sex!
  19. So, I've watched him do this a couple of times now. To get into the tree he starts out about 5 feet from the base of the tree. From a standing start he takes a couple of quick steps toward the tree, launches himself upwards, hits the tree trunk about 3 feet off the ground with his front feet and effortlessly propels himself into the crotch of the tree. He can do it a lot faster than I can explain it! He does not seem to have any fear of falling whatsoever. I saw him jump down to the ground from a limb that is an honest 8 foot off the ground.
  20. Two hunters on one moose permit. That's how it works there. Who shoots the moose is up to the permitees.
  21. OK, not a trail cam pic. It was taken from the kitchen window. This fox went wherever he wanted to in the tree until he finally found an apple. Then it was down the tree and a mad dash to the woods. It would have made an unbelievable video, but alas, I wasn't prepared.
  22. Ives Run near Tioga PA is an excellent facility. It's operated by US Army Corp of Engineers on Lake Hammond. Large campsites with decent spacing between them. They accept Senior Pass which is a National Parks and Federal Recreation Lands Pass (62 or older). Last I knew the discount is 50% on camping. Thousands of acres of state game lands nearby. Boat Launch. Small store. Visitors center with wildlife displays. Nice showers. Your travel there from Buffalo would be almost entirely interstate with the last 10 miles or so on PA state highways. Facility is usually booked solid on weekends. Reservations highly recommended (if in fact they aren't required). Main drawback is that I believe they close for the season in mid to late October, so they are of little use during the main firearms season.
  23. Wal Mart's main competitor is Amazon. How many cashiers does Amazon have? I suspect zero. Wal Mart is trying to stay competitive. Was a time when every gas station had attendants (I was once one). When was the last time you saw one? Times are changing, cashiers jobs are going away, just like the type writer and buggy whip industries did. By the way, I saw one survey that indicated about 4% of all possible self scan transactions aren't scanned. So, any potential personnel cost savings are partially offset by shrinkage.
  24. At my grandson's elementary school you must ring a buzzer to gain entrance. When they finally open the door you find yourself locked in a small room with very sturdy doors and bullet proof glass. You tell the office what you need and they may decide to grant you entrance. Where you are escorted by either an admin type or "resource officer" who happens to be a village cop. I can not fathom how anyone would gain entrance with a long gun.
  25. Boy did this thread hit a nerve. In the 1980's my Mom lost the end of her middle finger in an almost identical accident. Her index finger was also broken, but they were able to save it. She had placed a piece on the wood splitter and removed her hand. The piece moved and she tried to correct it, meantime Dad had started the ram...... I hope your wife didn't experience too much pain. I have been told finger amputations produce serious pain.
