  1. Nice! I gotta go check mine soon too
  2. Yes it’s supposed to be random but I’ve done better when applied early , maybe just got lucky idk.
  3. I used to hunt the Blue Hill DEP parcel in Sullivan years ago but didn’t find it that productive. Not as much food over there for them as in Orange with all those farms
  4. Also, it is not entirely clear if CO2 levels cause global temps to rise or if global temps rise which subsequently causes CO2 levels To increase due to a reduction in its solubility in the worlds oceans when temps increase
  5. Yeah I saw a bunch of bear scat Thursday when I was scouting , looked exactly the same ! Lol
  6. I’m some ways, those that do hunt though learn from mags and hunting shows and has become “gimmicky”. I saw a guy last year with an estrous can , grunt tube and rattle bag and he was doing all 3 every few minutes lol.
  7. I’d like to set something up deeper In to hike to real early in the am and test this out as opposed to being deep for the afternoon hunt. Of course, trail cams with sighting times would help substantiate this lol. If you can get out there early where there’s lots of other hunters , such as you see on public land , you can use other hunters to your advantage. I’m just thinking , based on my own experience and observations of deer over time, that you tend to see deer coming out closer to home at the end of the day whereas morning sightings tend to be returning back to their deeper, daily haunts .
  8. Very good discussion here IMHO! dbhunter : very well said about the bucks not bedding too long after an early morning push. I think I was assuming that their morning bed Down was longer than you suggest and I think your probably right in many cases. Also, the point made about a lot of sign made close being done at night is probably valid as well. But don’t you think that generally, after opening day of rifle when everybody and his brother is out there trying to accomplish the same objective and the deer are out on hyper alert that they don’t push back and deep in the am ? I know that so many guys stay within a few hundred yards from the road the entire season and certainly the deer figure that out? They seem to have no reservation about stepping out and coming close AFTER the sun goes down but there sure as hell gone by sunup!!
  9. It’s pretty common consensus that after the season starts, especially rifle season, that deer sightings plummet ; furthermore , most reason that they tend to stay further Away from the road, houses , anywhere near people basically. However, some of the best sign is often found with 100 yards of the road , a parking lot, etc. So I was thinking: wouldn’t it make sense to have a stand closer to civilization to work and a farther from the road stand intentionally to cover all bases? If I were to use both in 1 day for example, I would be more inclined to hike in to the further stand for the am hunt to try to catch them going back to rest and bed and go far the closer stand(s) for the afternoon hunt . I realize this is an oversimplification of strategy but basically does it sound about right? Thanks
  10. Hey guys; So I’ve been busy doin a lot of fishing , doin trout in the spring and a lot of warm water as of late due to the heat ; now, I figure I gotta make some time for some scouting!! Last season, I plotted 2 spots on my gps that I wanted to explore more throughly this year and hang stands but what I was wondering is, should I check out more spots or is 2 good enough? I’m ourchasing trail cams for these 2 spots but may be there are even better places to hang them? Thanks for any any input or advice, David
  11. Wow , there was one that went right by me in pine bush around 4, crazy
  12. Mostly flyfishing forums besides this one , salmon fishing forum upstate as well
  13. To me, it’s huting still because you have to be a good enough shot For a successful kill. I think there’s many logistical and ethical factors involved in what we perceive as “hunting” vs “not hunting”. For example, if said Hunter is taking a Deer at 100 yards in a stand or blind in a spot that was scouted by him/ her and they had to make it to their spot and post watch without getting busted, the. I would definitely consider it hunting and a “fair chase and take” situation. If however, the shooter is sitting in their truck and happen to drive by a field loaded with deer and take one, that is clearly not hunting in my book. There are no absolutes involved in ethics , there is always gray and situation specific. Just my 2 cents too
  14. Sounds like the gorge over by Katrina falls to me
  15. No wonder as I t’s hammered pretty hard
  16. Oh ok, you like to troll in Oneida then? Yeah, that’s probably what I would do is use large streamers. When I spin fish, probably would use spoons for Pike although stick baits are good too for sure
  17. I love Oneida for Walleye, haven’t fished it in about 5 yes though. What do you like to use for walleye and northern? I would love to try flies for northern at some point but it’ll probably wear out my shoulder by end of day
  18. When does walleye open on Oneida anyway? It’s too early yet anyway right?
  19. It’s probably good early season but sucks after May , water gets quite warm over there its flat and slower moving around around that area, not really
  20. It’s probably good early season but sucks after May , water gets quite warm over there

  22. Neversinks my home river, where were you, over by Bridgeville?
  23. How often are you in the Catskills? I live here so anytime you wanna come up, I’ll show you a few things about flyfishing : )
