  1. I agree but I think they delay breakfast when it’s real cold out, at least that’s what I’m seeing right now
  2. Guys; inbagged hunting yesterday am cuz of the temps planning on going today w a friend. Right now it’s -1 out and the Doe we always see at my girlfriends house is still bedded down. It’s 7:08 right now when is usually magic time on a normal day. Noticed the same behavior yesterday when it was equally cold. Then they started coming out well after 8 when the sun was out and was starting to warm up. Peak activity seemed to be around 1:30. I thought common wisdom is they have to move more when it’s cold to stay warm yet that is opposite of what I’m saying here . What do you think?
  3. Hands down I had the worst opening day of my life this past Saturday, check it out: So I got up early , was the first one out of camp, had all my gear , everything seemed good. I drive out to my spot , hike in , find my stand , get settled and check the time. Cell phone read 5:59 am and still pitch black so I was good. Then I settle in and wait for magic time. One thing I noticed on my stand though was a note wrapped in plastic and affixed with plastic pull ties, it said: This is an active blind area , please move your stand immediately, thanks! Im like, screw that! I put this up in August , been checking trail cams every 2 weeks and never saw any other activity or stand , not moving! So, about 6:30 2 dudes show up, one of them says “Yo” I’ve been huntin this spot for 37 years , you need to leave, didn’t you read the note?” I said “ yeah, but i never saw anything here and I’ve been here sine August and it’s public land anyway “ after that, he started cursing and yelling which angered me and I replied in kind and we were both really loud and I’m sure scared anything within a mile for hours . All he kept saying to me was “ you should have seen the blind, you need to have good hunting etiquette tonwhicj I replied “ I didn’t see anything here so I thought no one was using it! “ Anyway, I finally left cuz I figured it wasn’t worth it anyway Did I do anything wrong? Thanks
  4. Shit , I figured, I’ll be up tonite
  5. Gettin ready myself; went to the range Saturday to sight in my 30-30 was 3 inches off to the left till I adjusted. How does that happen in between seasons I always wonder
  6. So if you could control the weather, what would be ideal for you in a couple of weeks? This is me: Temp: around 35-40 Wind: None to slight Slight snowfall the day or two previously
  7. You’re right , wouldn’t work at all for now cuz no room to draw in there. I only hunt with a rifle right now but maybe someday will pick up a bow
  8. I have 2 ladder stands setup but like to use my mobile ground blind about midday to mix it up a little bit. Bought it from Walmart about 5-6 yrs ago, the kind with the folding chair and light hoop and cover camo attached . I love it, have filled a few of my tags with it ! Problem is, frames starting to fall apart and the new ones I’ve seen are bigger and I don’t like them as well. Anyone else like using these? Thanks
  9. It’s pretty common consensus that after the season starts, especially rifle season, that deer sightings plummet ; furthermore , most reason that they tend to stay further Away from the road, houses , anywhere near people basically. However, some of the best sign is often found with 100 yards of the road , a parking lot, etc. So I was thinking: wouldn’t it make sense to have a stand closer to civilization to work and a farther from the road stand intentionally to cover all bases? If I were to use both in 1 day for example, I would be more inclined to hike in to the further stand for the am hunt to try to catch them going back to rest and bed and go far the closer stand(s) for the afternoon hunt . I realize this is an oversimplification of strategy but basically does it sound about right? Thanks
  10. Nut bars and beef jerky for me, apples and oranges work pretty good too
  11. Yeah me too, very disappointed In my pics from a couple of weeks ago
  12. This has been a problem for me before too; based on past experience, I would say there’s no foolproof method for ensuring it will NEVER happen but if and when it does, I’d say the advice to walk quickly with a purpose and ignore them is best. When you sneak in furtively they’re still gonna hear you anyway and when you’re acting that way it scares the shit outta them because you’re behavior is out of character. Pretend your e a hiker or just passing through
  13. Flyfishing , cooking and a lot of reading; oh yeah, and makin fun of liberals
  14. So I Went back Saturday to check on my stand and trail cams. I ended wrapping a chain around the tree near the seat and securing the ends of the chain with a nut and bolt . Feel like that should reinforce the top enough . Additionally, I brought an extra ratchet/ strap and secured the support bar to the tree near the bottom. There’s no way that even if a strap broke on the top that it could come down with the chain on it: right? ?
  15. I’ve done well early in the season, like in September; they seem more comfortable and less wary before the leaves fall IMHO.
  16. This is a good idea if you are hanging after a fall to get back up and out . Would have to have them in your pocket or something though cuz if in your pack, probably wouldn’t be able to grab them then
  17. You ouhave a ratchet strap on the standing grate? Where, just underneath? I definitely like the idea of doing an additional strap somewhere in the middle of the ladder too and still may go with the chain even if overkill. 15 feet is a LONG way down
  18. So I just ordered my first ladder stand and put it up yesterday . Looks good and feels ok but I’m thinking I should reinforce it . I bought 8’ of thick chain with a hook on the end and thought I’d wrap it around the tree and under the seat. Also, I’d like to do a few additional ratchet straps in the center somewhere cuz it feels a little bowed when I go up and down the ladder. Again, I’ve never used a ladder stand; a buddy told me that if the tops ratcheted then it should be secure and thinks I’m overkilling the safety thing. What do you think?
  19. Thanks guys , very Appreciative of the feedback . Guy at the county clerks office told me to get a copy and just list it and said it shouldn’t be a problem , so here’s hopin!!
  20. Yes it was vacated , she withdrew it in 2015 . It was bullshit anyway but again, in NY all a woman really had to say to a judge is she’s afraid of you and it’s pretty much done. Ok, I’ll make sure it’s noted on there , so unfair
  21. Wouldn’t really matter because it doesn’t impact me in any other way except it may for my pistol permit but hopefully not.Gun Laws in NY very tough unfortunately. One of the disadvantages of living in a liberal state . Thanks for the input though
  22. So just picked up my pistol permit application paperwork for applying in Sullivan county. I’m a little concerned that I may have an issue because 4 yrs ago, my slut ex put out an Order of protection against me and at the time, they had confiscated all my guns. I guess that’s standard procedure , not sure. Anyway, she lied but In NY state, doesn’t matter as family laws are grossly skewed in favor of the woman as I have unfortunately become aware of through experience. Judge will issue anyway as a precaution. Anyway, was over 4 yrs ago and got my guns back a long time ago. Will this give me trouble, anyone that knows? Thanks, David
  23. Not for me, I think he’s doing a fantastic job especially whe. Compared to what we had before
