So I Went back Saturday to check on my stand and trail cams. I ended wrapping a chain around the tree near the seat and securing the ends of the chain with a nut and bolt . Feel like that should reinforce the top enough . Additionally, I brought an extra ratchet/ strap and secured the support bar to the tree near the bottom. There’s no way that even if a strap broke on the top that it could come down with the chain on it: right? ?

Squirrel hunted yesterday.....

I’ve done well early in the season, like in September; they seem more comfortable and less wary before the leaves fall IMHO. -
Half of tree stand falls were fatal, 100% were preventable

This is a good idea if you are hanging after a fall to get back up and out . Would have to have them in your pocket or something though cuz if in your pack, probably wouldn’t be able to grab them then -
So I just ordered my first ladder stand and put it up yesterday . Looks good and feels ok but I’m thinking I should reinforce it . I bought 8’ of thick chain with a hook on the end and thought I’d wrap it around the tree and under the seat. Also, I’d like to do a few additional ratchet straps in the center somewhere cuz it feels a little bowed when I go up and down the ladder. Again, I’ve never used a ladder stand; a buddy told me that if the tops ratcheted then it should be secure and thinks I’m overkilling the safety thing. What do you think?

Pistol permit application

Yes it was vacated , she withdrew it in 2015 . It was bullshit anyway but again, in NY all a woman really had to say to a judge is she’s afraid of you and it’s pretty much done. Ok, I’ll make sure it’s noted on there , so unfair -
Pistol permit application
Northcountryman replied to Northcountryman's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Wouldn’t really matter because it doesn’t impact me in any other way except it may for my pistol permit but hopefully not.Gun Laws in NY very tough unfortunately. One of the disadvantages of living in a liberal state . Thanks for the input though -
So just picked up my pistol permit application paperwork for applying in Sullivan county. I’m a little concerned that I may have an issue because 4 yrs ago, my slut ex put out an Order of protection against me and at the time, they had confiscated all my guns. I guess that’s standard procedure , not sure. Anyway, she lied but In NY state, doesn’t matter as family laws are grossly skewed in favor of the woman as I have unfortunately become aware of through experience. Judge will issue anyway as a precaution. Anyway, was over 4 yrs ago and got my guns back a long time ago. Will this give me trouble, anyone that knows? Thanks, David

I don’t really believe that Bigfoot exists today; however , it is difficult to explain away some of the evidence , most notably the Patterson film which was shot in 1967. If that’s a fake and it has to be in some way shape or form, it’s an awfully good one

Yeah , I’m thinking of getting one too, some places I hunt require some pretty steep uphill drags

As you may know, police discovered the body of Molly Tibbits a few days ago in a cornfield In rural Iowa. Her murderer was an illegal immigrant working on a farm with false documentation. IMHO , this case is a shining example as to why we need stronger immmigration and border enforcement: build the wall !! Such a shame and what a tragedy for her and her family Your thoughts?

Keeping record of weather/ lunar stats
Northcountryman replied to Northcountryman's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
Yes I have HuntStand but didn’t know that, thanks ! -
I was reading my North American Whitetail mag earlier , article was on trail cams. Very informative in that the author suggested good cam placement strategies, recommended what he called “soaking” areas ( meaning maintaijing continual monitoring basically year round to note trends) and keeping a journal to record useful stats such as temp , barometric presssure , wind direction, and weather events , and lunar phases on days when pics are recorded. My question is: where And how might one most easily ascertain this info? Is there an app maybe, or a website that can be used? Thanks

Just did it

There are wolves in the adirodacks , not sure about mountain lions but I would believe that there a few here and there

Are you scouting public or private land? Just wondering cuz you can set trail cams on either ( if private as long as it’s cool w landowner ). Are you worried about your cams getting stolen ? You can always lock em

Besides deer what is your favorite thing to hunt
Northcountryman replied to Hunter007's topic in General Chit Chat
I mostly only hunt deer but used to do squirrels, kinda gave it up because I’ve really gotten into salmon fishing and walleye in the fall and don’t have time for pursuing everything I enjoy!!
