  1. Yeah , I’m thinking of getting one too, some places I hunt require some pretty steep uphill drags
  2. As you may know, police discovered the body of Molly Tibbits a few days ago in a cornfield In rural Iowa. Her murderer was an illegal immigrant working on a farm with false documentation. IMHO , this case is a shining example as to why we need stronger immmigration and border enforcement: build the wall !! Such a shame and what a tragedy for her and her family Your thoughts?
  3. Very sorry for your loss, my condolences to you
  4. I was reading my North American Whitetail mag earlier , article was on trail cams. Very informative in that the author suggested good cam placement strategies, recommended what he called “soaking” areas ( meaning maintaijing continual monitoring basically year round to note trends) and keeping a journal to record useful stats such as temp , barometric presssure , wind direction, and weather events , and lunar phases on days when pics are recorded. My question is: where And how might one most easily ascertain this info? Is there an app maybe, or a website that can be used? Thanks
  5. There are wolves in the adirodacks , not sure about mountain lions but I would believe that there a few here and there
  6. Are you scouting public or private land? Just wondering cuz you can set trail cams on either ( if private as long as it’s cool w landowner ). Are you worried about your cams getting stolen ? You can always lock em
  7. I mostly only hunt deer but used to do squirrels, kinda gave it up because I’ve really gotten into salmon fishing and walleye in the fall and don’t have time for pursuing everything I enjoy!!
  8. I actually came up to camp to check my trail cam and set a new one but started raining ( of course!). I like the idea of mixing some fishing with scouting! The Willow flows right past my camp so I’ll have to bring my fly rod next time I come up.
  9. He’s a piece of garbage , I always vote Republican by default for that very reason
  10. Wow, scary how the country has changed . I just don’t understand people that try to impose their value system on others. I respect people’s right to disagree , I would even have a respectful conversation if they wished to attempt to dissuade me from engaging in hunting, but harassing and interfering with hunters? A bit over the top. I saw another yutube clip online in Florida where 2 fisherman were legally fishing in a state park pond and were harassed repeatedly. When one of them caught a fish, one of the activists grabbed it and threw it back in , unreal.
  11. Any one ever have trouble with people harassing them while hunting, scouting, etc? I was bored the other day and googled this topic and some stuff came up from a few years ago in Minnesota where a landowner who was vehemently antihunting employed tactics like blowing her horn and walking her property line playing loud music to scare the deer away. Never has happened to me, hopefully never will , just wondering if anyone has been unfortunate enough to experience this .
  12. Nice! I gotta go check mine soon too
  13. Yes it’s supposed to be random but I’ve done better when applied early , maybe just got lucky idk.
  14. I used to hunt the Blue Hill DEP parcel in Sullivan years ago but didn’t find it that productive. Not as much food over there for them as in Orange with all those farms
  15. Also, it is not entirely clear if CO2 levels cause global temps to rise or if global temps rise which subsequently causes CO2 levels To increase due to a reduction in its solubility in the worlds oceans when temps increase
  16. Yeah I saw a bunch of bear scat Thursday when I was scouting , looked exactly the same ! Lol
  17. I’m some ways, those that do hunt though learn from mags and hunting shows and has become “gimmicky”. I saw a guy last year with an estrous can , grunt tube and rattle bag and he was doing all 3 every few minutes lol.
  18. I’d like to set something up deeper In to hike to real early in the am and test this out as opposed to being deep for the afternoon hunt. Of course, trail cams with sighting times would help substantiate this lol. If you can get out there early where there’s lots of other hunters , such as you see on public land , you can use other hunters to your advantage. I’m just thinking , based on my own experience and observations of deer over time, that you tend to see deer coming out closer to home at the end of the day whereas morning sightings tend to be returning back to their deeper, daily haunts .
  19. Very good discussion here IMHO! dbhunter : very well said about the bucks not bedding too long after an early morning push. I think I was assuming that their morning bed Down was longer than you suggest and I think your probably right in many cases. Also, the point made about a lot of sign made close being done at night is probably valid as well. But don’t you think that generally, after opening day of rifle when everybody and his brother is out there trying to accomplish the same objective and the deer are out on hyper alert that they don’t push back and deep in the am ? I know that so many guys stay within a few hundred yards from the road the entire season and certainly the deer figure that out? They seem to have no reservation about stepping out and coming close AFTER the sun goes down but there sure as hell gone by sunup!!
  20. It’s pretty common consensus that after the season starts, especially rifle season, that deer sightings plummet ; furthermore , most reason that they tend to stay further Away from the road, houses , anywhere near people basically. However, some of the best sign is often found with 100 yards of the road , a parking lot, etc. So I was thinking: wouldn’t it make sense to have a stand closer to civilization to work and a farther from the road stand intentionally to cover all bases? If I were to use both in 1 day for example, I would be more inclined to hike in to the further stand for the am hunt to try to catch them going back to rest and bed and go far the closer stand(s) for the afternoon hunt . I realize this is an oversimplification of strategy but basically does it sound about right? Thanks
