  1. I hear you Eddie. No excuse. We shoot half hour before/after here in Vermont. Only 2 injuries so far this year, and they were both in broad daylight!
  2. I'm a big fan of the pic. Been there. Congrats! Sounds like you have plenty to be thankful for. (Maybe not Black Friday shopping.)
  3. Probably not in the best taste. I was referring to the guy who shot and disabled the brown truck with the 7mm.
  4. Not funny, but how about the stopping power of that 7mm?
  5. Good for you Moho! Stuff like that makes me like this forum even more. Conrats to Samantha and her trusty guide!
  6. I hear you. 50% is "merely a flesh wound". "I'm not dead...I feel fine...I think I'll go for a walk."
  7. It is possible that you got a bad/old batch of batteries. I haven't had my Browning cams very long, but they've never been anywhere near 50% battery life.
  8. 2 million acres with guaranteed access. Even if there is low deer density, I don't see how that is even a big issue. It certainly isn't the biggest issue. Everything is debatable. I agree that access is a huge issue, but not in the case of the Adirondacks.
  9. The Native Americans burned those very same woods. Maybe they were on to something?
  10. IMO the tops would do more good than harm. The state would probably make a mess of it though, and there's no way to make everyone happy. A little logging goes a long ways. We need to do some in the Green Mountain National Forest, but the state won't allow it. With no logging and fewer farms the deer don't have very much to eat. I get the concept of leaving land untouched, but with so many acres of state and Federal land it would seem like some of it could be more actively managed for timber and game animals.
  11. That may be a bit of an oversimplification. Mature timber doesn't provide much food or cover for whitetail deer. Some logging would help provide more food and cover. That is all.
  12. I could go check on him for you. You know, to make sure he's okay. See if he needs anything... I'd be happy to cuz I'm feeling that holiday spirit. Gobble gobble Moog!
  13. You're lucky. I wear good socks from Darn Tuff and mine still sweat sometimes. That's the only time that my feet aren't totally comfortable. Well, also when my wool socks bunch up inside of them. I hate that!
  14. I'm just curious if anyone has a brand/model of pop-up blind that they love. I'm looking for a hub blind with vertical windows. It seems to me that they run a little pricey, and I would like to get one that would last more than a year or two. It needs to be big enough to draw in, reasonably easy to setup and take down. The best experience I had was with a Primos Predator Den from Cabela's, but they don't make them any more. I mostly hunt out of hang-on stands, but like the idea of being able to easily move spots. There isn't always a good tree. I would like to scout more during the season in 2018 and stay mobile. Gotta keep them guessing! Thanks for your input!
  15. I wear Baffin Trappers that I bought for $80. Another set of liners is almost as much as the boots, but they would last you for years. They are waterproof, but make my feet sweat. That's why I wouldn't recommend in to your stand in them.
  16. X2. I wear Baffins for ice fishing, and my feet never get cold. I want to get a 2nd set of liners for mine. If you packed in a pair of Baffin boots and dry socks, I think you would be set.
  17. Congrats to the both of you! Any idea how I'm going to do on opening day of VT muzzleloader this year Oh Wise One?
  18. Congrats! Beautiful animals. That really is a BIG female. We have lots in the town I live in, and I know guys that shoot them every year. One of my buddies swears they are excellent eating. I have seen a number of them in the woods, and they are the quietest critter I have ever encountered. Had one sneak up behind my stand in dry, white oak leaves. Called on in during spring turkey season. Both figured out I was there, but didn't spook. They just strolled out of there like they owned the woods. Congrats again, and thanks for sharing Grampy!
  19. Good luck everyone. I am jealous of all of you with your multiple tags and such. Tagged out (for now) in VT, so I got up and "hunted" from the house with my treestand binos. Nothing. Gorgeous morning. The temp drops should help those hunting. Have a peaceful Thanksgiving.
  20. On second thought, I blame your frustration on Rage broadheads, Halo rangefinders, Lonewolf treestands, Primos grunt calls, the tv program Bone Collectors, and, of course, Evercalm, a scent meant to replicate those found in whitetail bedding areas.
  21. I wondered if he got too close to Wooly. Couldn't wait!
  22. Excuse me. I reacted to what you wrote. You didn't specify.
